Per Tim Sullivan: Gareon Conley's Cinci visit canceled
I was just talking to Tim a few minutes ago about Conley. He sent Conley a text message and got a reply saying that the trip was off.
So stop panicking, is all I'm sayin.

Anyway, back to footbawwwwwwww.

I am wondering, if a recruits parents wanted a their son to check out a certain school, maybe their alma mater, and they were adamant about it and the kid didnt want a strained relationship with his parents, if that recruit sat down or called coach hoke to explain it to him, would he be ok with the visit?
October 6th, 2012 at 11:47 AM ^
The problem with that is that it just opens up the door for more and more exceptions. The coaches have a relationship with the parents, too, so I'm sure the parents are told the "rules" of committing. Most parents won't let their kids commit to a school/coaches they don't approve.

I think the only way I would be ok with allowing visits to other schools if I were a coach, is if a recruit wanted to visit a service academy. Any other team, I would be strongly against.

Agreed. As said coach, I would want the player even more if he was even considering giving up glory for service.

Why?
I love how "patriotism" is this trump card that - in some people's minds - makes just about anything acceptable.
It's utterly irrational.
October 6th, 2012 at 4:50 PM ^
I *dare* you to post that on MLive. :)

but nothing happens to his scholarship offer in the event he visits. It's his commitment status that would be immediately affected.
October 6th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
When Pharaoh Brown visited Oregon last year, Michigan stopped pursuing him. That may have been because of the sneaky way Brown tried to pull it off, but regardless, there is the potential that his scholarship offer would be revoked.

Oh no, now that 152-comment thread is useless! Useless, I say!
October 6th, 2012 at 11:47 AM ^
Useless? What do you think made him cancel the trip? Duh.

saved for future generations.

He will not regret this, especially when he gets fitted for his national championship ring his senior year.
October 6th, 2012 at 11:52 AM ^
senior year? hoke will be long gone if he doesnt win a national championship before then

October 6th, 2012 at 11:52 AM ^
So panic tommorrow then? When can I panic?
October 6th, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
Panicing tomorrow probably means Michigan lost today, so definitely DO NOT panic tomorrow. Enjoy tomorrow.

Sorry. I'm a Cubs' fan. The season ended for me back in April.
October 6th, 2012 at 12:20 PM ^
Hey, you're the Cubs fan. You're the one that deserves an apology.

I would like to picnic right now, with some burgers.

Pffft. I bet you like hot dogs. Keep chugging along, I Like Burgers. Don't be deterred from spreading your message by heretics like Lakerine.

I bet you don't even like burgers

I was under the impression that Oregon was the real threat of poaching him... so we'll have to wait and see how that plays out.
October 6th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
And this is why you don't say things like "bye bye Conley, hello Mcquay!"
October 6th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
But I thought we hated Conley now and he was overrated, crappy, and we didn't want him anyway! McQuay was going to fill his spot instantaneously upon his committing to Oregon but now you're saying that we love Conley, he's an amazing talent, and we can't wait to get him on campus? How are we to keep this straight?!!?
October 6th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
October 6th, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
Yes, I was being a tad bit facetious and yes, we should still be pushing hard for McQuay because it is a long time until signing day and anything can happen with recruits. Nobody expected Stacey to decommit at the last minute last year, Standifer had his issues, and also the aforementioned Pharaoah Brown. Odds are that we will lose somebody along the way, just glad we didn't lose Conley here because he really looks like a baller.
October 6th, 2012 at 12:25 PM ^
Where are we at for the whole Shane is going to LSU thing? I need to know whether to die or not.
October 6th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
I missed that somehow (I went to bed right before that was published apparently). If true, it would be an 11. If not, it's a 0.
It's a 0.
October 6th, 2012 at 12:40 PM ^
0 isn't on the list!
October 6th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
Good deal. Not sure if the staff is out of the woods on this one yet though. Did he tell Oregon not to bother visiting his school as well on Monday? Hopefully he sticks it out. He looks like he could help as a WR or a Corner.

Did Bill Greene get this wrong? What is the exact story here? I trust Tim.
October 6th, 2012 at 3:02 PM ^
Bill didn't get it wrong. I assume he was going to visit Cincy, talked to the coaches about it last night, and then had a change of heart. I think both Bill and Tim were correct.
October 6th, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
Thanks, I know Bill is at scout and Tim is at rivals. Just want to know what is going on.
October 6th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
...that sure ended quickly.
I can nap easy this afternoon.
October 6th, 2012 at 2:13 PM ^
I want him in this class for sure, tall, athletic and has room to put some muscle weight on his frame, hope he's in AA next year.
