State Offers RB Commit Kurt Taylor

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Perusing the interwebs this morning and came across a late-posted article that says that state offered Kurt Taylor, a 2017 commit who had committed back in 2015.   I'm not sure if there is anything more going on, but the article had this tweet (is that what you call it?):

Blessed to receive an offer from the Head Coach @DantonioMark from MSU

Maybe the kid was just being gracious to state, but in case anyone else has some insight, curious to know if there are any rumblings with this kid going elsewhere.

Anyway, have a great weekend.

What is the upside of Kurt Taylor? Hard working kid who is a sparkplug?  I dont mean to be critical, but he is the least exciting physically of most of the recrutiing class.  Smaller in stature, not particularly quick or fast.

Mike Hart 2.0 hopefully... I dunno though. From viewing his tape, he is a good RB but his appeal perplexes me a bit.

I wasn't a big fan but his sr tape is good. Excellent receiver out of the backfield. Lacks top end speed but decent quickness and vision. Maybe more of a 3rd down back. I guess the question would be does he have skills that others on our roster don't. If we pass it's because we are only taking elite talent at RB due to our depth. He does love Michigan.

...this board always talks about Kurt Taylor with caveats, like, he's not Najee Harris or Eno Benjamin so he's just gonna ride the pine, so why should we want him? Firstly, high character matters, and it seems Kurt Taylor has that in spades. Secondly, he's actually a really good RB, as evidenced by the link below:

Kurt Taylor HS senior year highlights

He reminds me of Mike Weber, but stronger. And not a dick. (Before you neg me for talking shit about a college kid, remember the cheap shot he laid on B. Watson in November.)

Thirdly, he's one of two RBs in this class.

To summarize, he's a really good football player, he's a good kid, and without him this class is uber-thin at RB.

On another note, I have a quarter barrel of Founder's Breakfast Stout in my kegerator, and it's fucking awesome.

If he were that impressive, Rivals wouldn't have just moved him down to a 2-star rating.

Those highlights really aren't very impressive. At all. I mean, sure, he breaks some tackles. But he runs away from no one. He's a Michigan-bound running back, and there are times where entire defenses - defensive linemen, linebackers, defensive backs - are all catching up to him from behind.

I agree that he seems to be a high-character guy. There are lots of nice guys out there who don't qualify as elite football players.

I know you're a heavyweight 'round these parts...

So you're telling me that there's no chance that Taylor has been overlooked by scouting agencies because he's fundamentally sound and normal, without any wow-inducing measureables? I guess I'm wondering if the scounting services were willing to back off reporting on an RB that is pretty good but not really gonna help them sell services...

Taylor is already committed, he's not changing his game or build, he's not considering other schools, .... 'crootin' blah blah blah... he's solidly committed to Michigan.

Thus, no "interest."

Anywho... I hope Taylor stays in this class; he could be a productive football player at UM.

a) I don't use phrases like "never" or "always" in recruiting. Sure, there's "a chance" that the services are wrong.

b) I don't think the recruiting services downgrade fundamentally sound players just because they're boring. In fact, I think it makes very little business sense to downgrade someone like him to a 2-star prospect, because Rivals runs the risk of annoying Michigan fans - and Michigan is one of their biggest moneymakers. If they felt confident enough to drop him down a notch, then that's somewhat damning.

Not worried, he's been committed for two years and hasn't wavered. He hasn't had a chance to go in any visits but to Michigan, I don't blame him for taking another opportunity to get the red carpet treatment.

Maybe we should re-start our recruitment of Jordan Reid .  He's a pretty good OL prospect who was feeling Michigan. They shoot one accross the bow, . . . We make Sparty play defense?

who is also a friend. I asked him if he had played against Covington or had seen Taylor play. Turns out he hadn't, but he did ask a colleague, who had this to say.

"Dude he's a rising junior so he is a 2017 player. He's a beast. Built like Ezekiel Elliott. Has great vision. Cuts up in the hole quickly on stretch plays and hits the hole hard on inside zone plays. Doesn't get tackled by the first man. Has much yards after contact. I hope he comes to UGA. And he catches the ball out of the backfield and makes big plays as a receiver out of the backfield."
