SIAP: Helmet Stickers - MVictors

Submitted by Murder Wolv on September 5th, 2023 at 9:34 PM

I was wondering about the helmet stickers today since they seem to vary so much than I recall from my days as a student where they seemed just to be wolverines.

This may have been posted a couple of years ago when it was first published. Anyway, MVictors did a deep analysis.

Here is a picture of a helmet from the article.

Some are obvious, but there are few that I found interesting.

EUTM is Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind.

TED is "There every day" - attendance at practices

The three digit number by itself is the player's home area code (571 in the image). This is part of new approach to make the helmet more of a story of the student's time at Michigan. Players get the helmet to keep after they leave school. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/2021/08/10/new-michigan-helmet-stickers-tell-story-players-career/5561313001/

The book is Academic All Big Ten (presumably)

Definitely already posted, but years ago at this point and I very much appreciate the repost as I love this “story through helmet stickers” idea. Seriously, it is worth reposting at the beginning of every season as long as the team keeps doing this.

I love the recognition, but am also one of the young "old blue hairs" to also wish they didn't appear on game-day helmets, rather being restricted to practice helmets or end-of-year awards or e-badges assigned on instagram or really anywhere except a helmet that is aesthetically perfect when bare.

Make a cheeseburger sticker. Nobody cares if it isn't true. It's all about the good story. Harbaugh comes out looking like a gangster... Even if it's not the real full truth

Also, honestly this stuff was cooler before money. Seems like checkers vs chess

Speaking of MVictors, I love The Mood so much. Back in school i would make little line graphs in my notebook recording the confidence I had in Michigan week to week. I did that for years. Then come to find out someone else is doing it in a super official way that has it's own website and cool graphics. Love looking at it every couple weeks

I'm relieved the TED stickers, which are the easiest to read on TV, aren't for watching TED talks, which had been my best guess as to their meaning.
