while Heisman lists are pretty much meaningless at this time of the year how interesting is it that the top two are Big Ten players not to mention Michigan and OSU players.  anyone know the last time that was the case? (actual question not rhetorical)

Based on these two games he is hands down the favorite,we have 10 games left. But i think Denard Robinson will have solid stats all year. Will he win it thats the million dollar question?

I agree that these Heisman lists mean nothing at this time of the year but it would be hard to deny Denard from the conversation considering he out gained 87 (I believe that is correct but feel free to correct me) of the 120 FBS teams by himself.

If our defense continues to play this poorly we will be in a lot of shoot-outs this year.  Which means that there won't be much garbage time for Denard to sit.  Meaning, big stats.  As long as the team wins, he has a good chance.

This poorly? Are you nuts?

Did you miss the UConn game where the team not named Michigan scored 10 points?

Or, did you miss the Notre Dame game, where the team not named Michigan scored 24 points, at home, with Michael Floyd and Kyle Rudolph in their lineup?

Claiming the defense played poorly is just ignoring reality and accepting tired cliches. Neither of these games were shootouts and more importantly, the defense made plays when needed, enough of them to win.

Keep looking for the negative pal. I'm looking at 2-0.

I'll agree that the defense made some plays when needed.  But you can't ignore the fact that a big part of UConn only scoring 10 points was their receivers dropping wide-open passes.  As for Notre Dame, they did put up over 500 yards and some huge plays.

I'm not a doomsday seer with this D.  I agree that they have played above expectations and it was their effort that kept ND out of the endzone before halftime and at the end of the game.  But lets not get carried away and start thinking that they are really that good.

If I want to search hard enough I can figure out why any defense can purportedly suck in any season.

If other teams completed more passes and rushed better in 1997, Michigan's defense would have stunk.

What happens if it gets to the end of the year and Michigan's defense has given up under 18 points per game, as it is CURRENTLY doing?

Does it suck? Will you care? Because if they hold to that number it probably means they've won 10-11 games.

It is getting very very difficult to temper my enthusiasm for this guy.  So far so good... enter caveats about only 2 games yada yada.  One thing he does have going for him now is precedent... it is no longer impossible for an underclassman to win it.

What are the odds on this list hitting the trifecta of current/former Michigan qb's at three different schools (Robinson, Mallett, Threet)?  Not so good?  Better/worse than the odds of getting UM's three deep on the list at the same time?

We have a new betting favorite for the Heisman. Well, not the #1 chalk, but close.

Pryor is 3.5 to 1

DENARD is 4.5 to

Kellen Moore is 8/1, nobody else is lower than 10/1

Mallet is 10/1, along with Noel Devine

Also: Michigan has gone from 100/1 to win the Natty Title to 30/1

I cant fund updated odds on winning the Big 10 or Future Games......but they are, per 5.dimes.com.....-21 against UMASS

(Heisman odds, per sportsbook.com)

This is the most important thing.  Michigan is once again being held in public in a positive light.

Recruits, parents, coaches are getting good "vibes" about our program.

The positive impact of this cannot be overlooked!

Well, we had Crisler and the Mad Magicians before, so I suppose the 2nd coming is being led by the Michigan Magician, Shoelace.  Fine by me; those Mad Magician teams completely dominated teams.

Handed it to USC in the '48 Rose Bowl.

There were a couple plays from the UCONN game that remind me of how they would play--particularly the one where we faked the swing pass and DR connected on a pass downfield.  DR's touchdown pass to Roundtree had that feel as well, I suppose: "dazzling in its deception."

Denard should be at the top of the list after these first two weeks.  I don't know why Pryor is even on the list to be honest.  He went 12-27 against Miami and clearly still cannot throw the ball on a consistent enough basis for him to earn that award.  Denard is already a better passer then Pryor on all routes minus the deep ball, and is clearly the faster, more dynamic runner.  Props to Denard, way to put a Michigan man back up on that list!

Why not have fun with this? Our qb right now is at the top of the heisman list, us fans should be able to have fun and celebrate this even if it is only after two games. Tate last year was not #1, I don't even think he was in the top five. I don't think there is anything wrong about being absolutely thrilled about this. Let's just hope the Michigan Magician can keep this torrid pace up.

The difference is Denard is actually putting up Heisman numbers whereas last year we were just happy we had a qb that looked competent and happened to pull of some good comebacks. Its still way to early to even think about it though.

It's an interesting list and I tend to agree with almost everyone else who says the lists aren't worth much this time year for anything other than discussion.  Now, that said, one guy on that list that I'm willing to bet will be on the podium in New York this fall is in the number ten slot: Marcus Lattimore.  Not saying he'll win it, but he'll be there as a freshman.
