Not a good look at all for Kill.  It's probably a good thing he's at a small market school.  That way if he continues to put his foot in his mouth, there won't be the kind of scrutiny if he were in the Big Ten or some other major conference.

I LOL'd when I read the comments by Kill.  He comes across as a grumpy old man.  I'm grumpy and getting old myself but Fleck doesn't bother me one bit.  He's a high energy guy.  His players seem to like him and respond to him.  He's been at two places where he has sell himself as much as he does the program if he wants to recruit and compete at the highest level.

It's pretty obvious that Fleck is a self-promoting climber who's excellent at putting the wool over people's eyes with buzzwords and gimmicks.

That said, there is some evidence to suggest that these type of people can be highly successful in college football.

I've always felt bad for Kill because of how his career ended, and Fleck seems like a handful and a bit overrated as a coach, but it's rather obvious Kill's got an axe to grind with Minnesota for firing Claeys and it's not a good look for him to be taking shots at Fleck because of it.

High energy quirky guys like PJ Fleck and Jim Harbaugh are always going to rub some people the wrong way. It happens. Jerry Kill's "aw shucks" persona obviously doesn't mesh with Fleck's style. If Fleck finds a way to win at Minnesota, no one except Kill is going to care about any of this.

I don't know that I would've gone and publicly blasted your successor like that. Just makes you look petty and looks like sour grapes, but he obviously feels he's got some beefs with Fleck in how he handled the transition and choosing whether or not to retain certain coaches. I don't know what was said behind closed doors, but Fleck didn't owe Kill anything. He didn't owe Claeys or any of Kill's remaining staff anything, either. In fact, after that whole sexual assault scandal Minnesota went through at the end of the 2017 season, it was probably in Fleck's best interest to clean house and bring in all new staff. Cut away the rotting flesh and give the entire program and the university a fresh start.

The last thing Fleck needed was to retain Claeys and have the media and SJWs come out of the woodworks and blast him as being insensitive to sexual assault or some kind of woman hater. His tenure at Minnesota would've been in turmoil before it really even started. Fleck also may have felt like he could bring in a staff member who would produce better than Claeys could. His job is to be the best and bring in the best.
