He's not a PWO. Hes from the Class of 2016, was a freshman at Michigan, participated in the student body tryout and made the team. Not a PWO. Just a good ol' fashioned walk-on.

Correct, Josh was headed to Tech to play safety, but he earned an Evans Scholarship and took the opportunity to come to UofM. He had to forego last year since he since the NLI to Tech. Fantastic, really smart kid. He'd be a safety like his teammate Tru Wilson who also was a PWO last year.

I would love to see some behind the scenes story about what a potential PWO has to do to stay in shape, and stay sharp for a tryout. I'd also like to see what the tryout looks like. This would be very interesting. Even if it wasn't a Michigan-story. I'm sure all schools do this, but this is certainly something that most college fans have never seen.

I would love to see the tryout too.  I remember Bobby Knight had a show called Knight School where they putl walkons through a tryout.  It was fascinating to watch it.  I am a basketball coach, so the drills were fun to watch.  The mental side of it was even more fascinating to me though.  I would love to see a show like that at Michigan with Harbaugh.

What happened to all the previous PWOs?

Once the 85 roster spots are left, that leaves 20 places for PWOs on the 105 player roster.  With all the PWOs that UM has taken the last 2 years, it would seem that the 20 player PWO roster is full, even overflowing.

So it would seem that PWO is basically a one year tryout and if they don't cut it, what happens to them?  Do they still attend practices as part of the non 105 player roster?  Or do they just slip back into the non athlete student body?

Thanks in advance for any additional info on the PWO process.

Yeah the PWO is only guaranteed for a year. The 105 roster limit is for fall camp only. Once the academic year starts, a team can have unlimited players.

So after the year as a PWO they either receive a scholarship, compete to stay on as part of 105 for fall camp, stay on the team but skip fall camp, or quit all together.

Does anyone have an update on Asiasi? Was he in class this week? I thought for sure there would be some clarification this week after the reports surfaced? Obviously hoping the kids family is ok, but I really think the sky is the limit for him at Michigan. I was hoping some of you fine Michigan fans would have some news or updates on his situation. I'm hopeful that JH can let him figure out his family priorities and still return to Ann Arbor. Thoughts? I'm new to this game so take it easy on me. I'm a combat vet marine and my father's ashes are spread in the end zone near the student section of the big house. Semper Fi and go blue
