Projected ND Starting WR Michael Young breaks collarbone
Surprisingly this is the second starting ND skill player to break their collarbone this preseason ans projected starting TE Cole Kmet did the same August 8th. Kmet has been given an expected recovery time of 4-10 weeks so we'll see what's announced with Young but a similar time frame seems reasonable for now.
According to the linked article, behind projected starting WR Chase Claypool and starting slot Chris Finke (who may move outside now), no healthy ND player has more than 5 career catches except RB Jafar Armstrong who has 14 career catches all last season. This will be something to watch with ND this season, especially with Ambry being out indefinitely and our projected CB issues.
ND's had a rough preseason so far, with a few other depth players getting injured and transferring out of the program already.

10 weeks from today is Michigan weekend.
They'll both be back.
August 18th, 2019 at 8:20 PM ^
Exactly. The one year we don't play them early and it benefits the Domers.
August 18th, 2019 at 10:16 PM ^
If we have Ambry back, then it will benefit us too.
August 18th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
And they will score 3 TDs each
August 18th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
I have to imagine this would affect their hands though. Won't be able to catch passes for a long time and upper body work will be tough as well. They'll be back but not to where they were before.

Fortunately* that is not really how it woks. The biggest short-term impact, besides pain, and the only potential long-term impact is range of motion / extension on that shoulder. Hands should not really be impacted. Certainly, there will be a little bit of rust and perhaps conditioning will not be 100%, but these guys will be catching balls and working on grip strength well before they return to the field.
*Unfortunately for UM

Devastating
August 18th, 2019 at 8:22 PM ^
It’s almost as if they knew what they were doing scheduling our game in October..
August 18th, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
Probably the fault of the S&C Staff, better replace all of them.
August 18th, 2019 at 8:37 PM ^
It's that candy ass skim milk!
August 18th, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
Thanks for the info. Can you say who the other injuries/transfers are?
August 18th, 2019 at 10:06 PM ^
To my knowledge so far it's been a freshman OL who's gonna be out for the season, a backup RB who broke his hand but has still been practicing and a reserve safety who transferred (buried on the depth chart but was a highly rated recruit).
August 18th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Last year I got over confident looking at how little they returned for RB. But they turned out fine.

Still #2 toughest game on the schedule.

After Penn State?
August 19th, 2019 at 8:24 AM ^
As of today, behind OSU. @PSU would normally be up there but I have no idea what Penn State will be. I think they are going to be a 8-4ish type team. There are also rumblings that that could be a noon game. PSU's night atmosphere is one of their biggest weapons.
Right now ND seems like a more complete team and Book will be one of the best QB's UM will face this season.

Looks like ol Brian Kelly has lowered the height of the scissor lifts.

^^^ This one!

Not too carefully. Pinched a couple of collarbones.
August 18th, 2019 at 10:17 PM ^
we shouldn't even be playing these guys. Let alone in the middle of the f'n season.
August 19th, 2019 at 11:10 AM ^
I love playing ND, but only when we win!!
August 18th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
That sucks! Never like to hear that... I wish all players remain healthy.
August 18th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
Thanks for sharing. I haven't been able to keep up with injury buzz around the country this year, have there been any other big ones other than Stueber?
August 18th, 2019 at 11:28 PM ^
Fuck John Oneil

Classic.
August 18th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
This suxs. They will have their two best sets of hands out for the Georgia game, and back for us.
Lets say we do win, but Georgia wins bigger. Enter the SEC talking heads.
August 19th, 2019 at 1:10 AM ^
I wouldn't be super sure this guy is back for our game. And if he his, he's likely not sharp on his routes or his timing with the QB. A collarbone takes a minute to come back from, and even if this guys plays against us, he won't be 100%.

Young’s injury is more severe than Kmet’s. He will require surgery and then start the 5-8 week rehab.
August 19th, 2019 at 9:12 AM ^
You can say that again...

I was thinking Kmet was a typo.

Here’s an update on Notre Dame:
Their passing game suffered another blow Aug 17th. Their starting WR, Young has a shoulder injury that will require surgery this week. He will be out at least 4-10 weeks along with TE Kmet, broken collarbone Aug 7th. Throw in WR Austin’s troubles and you have 3 skill players out for at least the month of Sept.
Delusional ND fans are thinking this is the best team Kelly will field since the ‘88 Irish.
Camp standouts for the Irish: DE Hayes, S Hamilton, DT Ademilola, LB Bilal, CB Vaughn, and RB Jones
Their OL has struggled a bit this year. Very inconsistent at times. Their back-up QB sucks.
Tommy Tremble stepping in at TE. Pretty sure we recruited him.
K Doerer is very good. Big leg. P Brablett punts the ball 38-40 yards,
but has excellent hang time.

Watch, they'll be back by the time we play them and DPJ & Black will be out.
August 19th, 2019 at 9:39 AM ^
Shut your whore mouth when you speak.
August 19th, 2019 at 4:47 PM ^
I never want to play ND again. Go join the ACC and stop ruining our schedules. All ND fans are old men so I can't even shit talk without feeling like I'm beating down on geriatrics.
