Post Rutgers Basketball Snowflakes

This feels like the 2013 Hoke season where the carpet is about to be ripped out under us. Next year is make or break for Juwan.

Going to be super interesting (and important) to see how offseason player decisions go. In particular, what Kobe and Hunter decide to do. UM doesn't have much to replace those guys if they go (unless they strike gold in the transfer portal, which has become more difficult for various reasons). Furthermore, if they leave despite this bad of a taste in their mouth, it creates immense concern about the state of the program. In years past (football and basketball), key guys have returned following down years to right the ship.

Guess that you and I will just have to agree to disagree here. Certainly nothing wrong with guys pursuing their dreams and pushing for the NBA, it's what I ultimately want to see (and enjoy) for all of our guys. What worries me is that it speaks of turning into a way-station, where guys leave as soon as they can just because they can, even when there is meat left on the bone for them to not only grow as players, but to leave a legacy as truly great Wolverines. We are not Gonzaga, Duke and Kentucky where a new wave of guys are always in the waiting to replace key mass attrition. Furthermore, if key guys are leaving that are clearly not ready for meaningful NBA minutes yet & coming off a bad year and with an opportunity to avenge it, it seems like the program mentality may be transition over production. There is something to that old saying about those who stay...

I’m still trying to figure out why JH was so highly regarded by the NBA, I see very little coaching adjustments or player development.

The league knows LeBron is not a future GM. He lobbied for Westbrook to join the Lakers and that got them 13th place this season. Now that Pelinka is actually doing his job and not deferring to LeBron, suddenly the Lakers are back in the playoffs. Riley and Spoelstra’s endorsement is what got Juwan touted as a potential head coach.

Effort today was abysmal.  Defense was OK for a half but then everyone almost collectively gave up in the second half.  Box outs were terrible.  That Rutgers free throw miss and follow up was almost as embarrassing as the Juwan slap last season.

How in the hell can a collection of medium to high rated D1 basketball players being coached by a former NBA player and coach, go on a 1 for 17 shooting funk?  The guys were playing as an assortment of individuals and they had no semblance of team.  There is no flow to the offense.  I am an unskilled observer but there is seemingly no parameters or scheme that is occurring in any given offensive set.  It's dribble around the perimeter, set a few high screens, try to get the ball to HD down low and if he's covered up then hope to hell the guy makes the outside shot after the pass.  No drives to the hoop, no clever pick and rolls.

It was the worst Michigan basketball performance I've seen all season and they saved it for a must-win game against a very beatable opponent.  I should've stayed at work and not watched.  Ridiculous.

I thought Juwan should have been fired after hitting the WI coach. There is no excuse for that. It showed his immaturity. There have been a few other minor incidents even this year that showed he just didn't get it. Yelling "GTF off me" to his own player who was trying to calm him down, the "free juwan" shirts like he was somehow the victim? Allowing Hunter to trash opponents in the media, and the embarassing "let my nuts hang" celebration after hitting a 3. All this is before you get to the no show effort this team gave all year. If it's not clear, I've seen enough of this garbage.

This game was eerily similar to the game at Rutgers but the teams reversed roles. Started out very well, lost momentum and went into half in a close game. Then proceed to put up an embarrassing offensive second half performance and lost by a dozen.

The lower seeds have now won all 5 of the tournament games so far. We’re not the only fan base that is wondering WTF happened.

I don't see it mentioned here, but it's kinda funny that Tschetter kept getting the "Why is he out there?" boos here, and he's the only guy in the box score with a nonnegative +/- (he was at zero). Junk stat, but kinda interesting.

The other observation from +/- is that Dug played 37 minutes but somehow was only -3. I guess it would have been nice to have another guard on the roster.

that was a really disappointing finish.

Until that game, I really thought Michigan was making good progress. This game was a massive step backwards.

It is a young team, but they were making some really poor decisions and could not manufacture anything.

I like Coach Howard, but something was definitely amiss this year. Guys did not seem to be on the same page from the get go.

Not much fans can do but hope that this was simply a blip on the radar.

You should not fire a guy who won the conference after his first missed tourney.  The team was bad (and so was the coaching); there is no excuse for missing the NCAA’s.  But he’s earned a chance to get back on track.

Todays game seemed like a pretty clear test of the better without Jett hypothesis.  You already have a three game win streak without him vs a three game losing streak with him.  But lots of the wins were at home and lots of the loses were on the road.  BUT, Rutgers was a road win without Jett and now a neutral site ass kicking with the season on the line with him.

A sophomore Jett might be really good, if his dad can get him to attempt to play defense and rebound.  But at the end of this season, him playing so much hurt the team. And it’s hard to avoid thinking his playing time was independent of his dad being the coach.

Whoever slammed Beilein for not winning and celebrating Howard’s post season success is an idiot.

it was Beileins nucleus that Juwan stepped into that drove his initial success. Michigans run the last 5 years with the cleanest coach in basketball were the best that we may ever see. Great character, great development and enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

let’s hope coach Howard gets the players to play at a higher level next year   The way we closed out the season was embarrassing
