Possibly Moving To Texas

Submitted by gater on
I'm interviewing with a company in Temple, Texas (about an hour north of Austin) and i was wondering from all of you people who live out of the regional coverage area, how do you watch football games when they are on regional ABC? b.t.w. i checked and Big Ten Network is part of the standard cable package.

I've lived all over the country, and I typically get every game--minus maybe one game against a MAC team. Typically, you'll get a lot of ABC games on ESPN or ESPN2 with a local team (Texas/Oklahoma) on ABC.

I'm shocked that BTN is part of standard cable package. We don't get it in most of the state, although we do get Big12/SEC channels. You get pretty much every Michigan game at noon or any other time on one channel or another through mirroring. They don't have regional ABC games at noon anymore, so that's definitely not a problem. The only time something comes up is we play a night road game that conflicts with ABC's top game. That doesn't happen often enough to matter.

I live in Arlington and last year was able to watch about 7 or 8 UM games on ABC/ESPN last year. The BTN is a part of my Dish network package but its blacked out in all non B10 states which makes no sense to me at all. All the other games i had to stream online which sucks but was better than nothing.

Perfect. These are the things that i wanted to hear. I was pretty shocked (and pleased) that BTN was on the standard cable. I checked it a few times to make sure i wasn't seeing things. It would be tough to leave michigan, but only because of the football team and my season tickets. Being in a real job market will be nice.

I am assuming you have friends you are going to do something with those season tickets...but if not I would love to get my hands on them. Let me know Edit: Seriously, I am willing to work anything out. We can split them if you want to come back for some games or something. Anything. I will assign you the rights to my first born, you name it

Hopefully Michigan and UT can schedule a home and home series. Havent been to a Michigan game since I moved here a few years ago, and the worst part about leaving michigan was not being able to get to see them play anymore.

The Big 10 made a deal with ESPN/ABC, any game that has regional coverage will be shown on ESPN or ESPN2 if it's not the game shown in your area. So every Michigan game is on tv. I'm in California, and I love it.

I live in New Mexico, which isn't Texas but it is just as out of region. I would recommend DirecTV with the Choice package, you'll get BTN and all the overflow channels. Since all regional ABC games are reverse-mirrored on ESPN2 if they aren't on local TV, your only worry will be if Michigan is on ABC prime time but isn't the local choice.

I live in Lubbock, and I can't get the BTN unless I got a dish. Most of the bigger, high profile games are usually on, but I've had to do some searching around bars to find the ones on BTN. Funny story about that actually... I went to Buffalo Wild Wings to catch the MSU game, and they didn't have the BTN so I had to go elsewhere. When I finally found the game, I noticed during the halftime show that it was being sponsored by Bdubs. Fail.

Well this has eased some of my concerns. The local cable provider seems to get it's signal from Time Warner and package a smaller spread for a little cheaper, but it sounds like DirecTV may be the way to go. Thanks for all the help guys!

FWIW I love Directv. I have had both dish network and Directv and would never go back to cable or dish network. Directv customer service is really good and they offer many different packages. I think you would be happy with that choice. I live in LA and have never missed a UM game.

I'm jealous of you. Texas, especially around Austin, or along the ocean, or in San Antonio would be a very cool place to live.

I've hung out in San Antonio and I've never been overly impressed. Outside of the riverwalk it seems like "anytown USA". Austin on the other hand has a lot unique characteristics.

I live in Dallas and have ATT, I have not missed a Mich game in two years. You will catch them on the Big Ten, ESPN and ABC. Good luck with the job brother and I hope you can the games down there so close to Austin.

I live in Houston, TX and have been able to watch every Michigan game and in HD. I am not sure how the BTN works with cable, but with Direct TV I have a few BTN alternate channels, so even if Michigan wasn't the main Big Ten game on I could still catch it on one of the alternate channels (something to look into). Hope this helps.

I live in Florida and on DirecTV, you can get the overflow channels. I got to watch every game, which was good but also painful. We switched to Comcast, and down here you have to pay extra for some sports package that gets you BTN, among others. I'm not sure if it includes the alternate channels; with basketball being what it is this season, I haven't been on BTN much. I'll explore in fall, when hope springs eternal.

San Deigo, Miami, Seattle, Portland ME. Direct TV is a must for UM just for the BTN. My wife has tried to switch many times untill I go into "Hulk SMASH" mode. I do miss the $99 ESPN game day deal so I can have an excuses to watch good match ups when UM is not playing. So in summery, Direct TV as many people have stated, good luck in Texas, I may be down there in a few years.
