OT - Pistons considering Isiah Thomas to replace Joe Dumars
The New York Daily News reports that the Pistons are considering replacing Joe Dumars with Isiah Thomas. Sounds like Gores is well on his way to creating another disaster.
I may not agree with some of Joe Dumars decisions recently, although we don't really know they are his decisions, but the man did a lot for the franchise and having him hanging since the firing of Cheeks and now the leaking of this is embarrassing.
Uh, they've lost 7 of their last 8. They're 20th in the league right now. They need to be 22nd or worse to get their draft pick.
WTF, he already ruined the Knicks for how long? We don't need this at all. If you're going to stick with the former Bad Boys for front office positions I hear Rodman is available and has GREAT references.
Seriously though, what's this franchise's problem with taking a serious look at Laimbeer? Also, if you're going to look at former players, how about someone like Grant Hill? Can't do any worse than Zeke or Joe D lately...
hahaha! nicely done.
Isiah and Michael Jordan.
Proving once again that Hall of Fame careers as players are entirely uncorrelated to success as a GM.
I'd hire Isiah as a head scout. He has a great eye for talent, particularly through the draft. He landed Wilson Chandler at 23 (who many Pistons fans still covet), Channing Frye (8th), David Lee (30th), Trevor Ariza (34). His only "flops", Renaldo Balkman and Mardy Collins, both remained in the league despite being drafted in 2006.
I loved Zeke as a player. He was truly special.... But now, Zeke has no real friends in basketball anymore..... Yes, I'm not sure how to spell Isaiah, so I'm calling him Zeke.

Well, at least we just won an NBA championship.
...oh shit, that was ten years ago.
The one thing Joe understood is that no good FA wants to come here unless they're the last piece to getting a ring. If your choice is playing in a (A) big time city, (B) warm weather city, or (C) Auburn Hills, A or B will win out. We won a title in 2004 with players we either traded for, drafted or signed as a reclamation project, except for Billups. And if Minnesota would've traded Terrell Brandon, they would've kept Chauncey.
Zeke as coach I could live with but not as GM. I think the Knicks are still paying contracts for Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury.
This team needs buzz and a lottery pick to pair up with Drummond. Had they done the clear and smart thing and drafted Burke, they'd be sitting on a dynamic local star point guard, a 20-year old true center with huge upside and a lottery pick. Burke would have guaranteed a baseline of fan interest which they currently don't have. Dumb, dumb, dumb and they still don't have an actual point guard.
As it is it's still an interesting situation. They need that lottery pick and bad. I hope they are tanking like there's no tomorrow.
Isiah was the Captain he should have never left this organization. Ever.
Should he be running things? No. He should be part of things though.
Bring him in, tank for the lottery, make a play for Izzo. Now's the time to lure him away from State. They are looking trashy next year by their standards and Izzo's burned out chasing recruits around like it's still 1997. He was all but gone to Cleveland in 2010. He just waited out the decision like everyone else.
Basically, if we tank, we lose that pick to Charlotte. This draft is much deeper, so maybe Joe was banking on us being good enough to not lose that pick and dump salary at the same time.
After all the coaching changes and now Gores meddling, I think they may be there already.
And it gets even better. Charlotte waived Ben Gordon today.
I find it sad that someone who was such an integral piece in the Bad Boys winning the Pistons' first and second-ever championshps has pissed away all of that goodwill with his imcompetence and arrogance.
I was going to ask how Gores could be so stupid; then, I remembered where he went to school.
I wonder why Bill Laimbeer is never even in the discussion.
