OT-ish: KSU All-Big 12 guard Nigel Pack in portal
Wonder how much he is really in "play" or already has his destination decided. Seems like a good shooter, averages 17.4 pts while shooting 43.6% from 3. Sounds like a good 2 guard to replace Eli.
Can he run the point a little?
Yes, he ran point as a freshman last year before moving to SG when KSU brought in a pure PG from Little Rock.
He is short at 6' for a 2 guard, but man, he's a lights out shooter. 44% on huge volume after shooting 42%. Over 80% from FT. Would seem to be a very good addition as a third guard that can play both positions.
I'm sure Kentucky will find a way to process a McDs All American who underperformed as a freshman to make room for him.
He's probably going to Purdue but he's basically the dream guy to pick up. He's transferring because of a coaching change, not just because he wants a bigger spotlight
Not doubting you but why Purdue specifically? Edit: I saw from Indy so I guess close to his hometown? Is Hunter back or leaving? Obviously Ivey is gone but it seems that PU has a bunch of guards, especially if Hunter is back.
Also, is he in fact a 2 guard? At 6ft?
He's from Indianapolis per the article.
Isaiah Thompson is transferring. So with him and Ivey gone, they have some minutes to go around. From what I saw of Purdue, they didn't exactly have a logjam of talent at guard. It was Ivey, the two bigs, "just-a-shooter"Sasha, and a bunch of meh on that team.
Thanks. Did not know that Thomspon was gone.
This would be a fantastic pick up, if Howard chooses to pursue. We really don't have a 2 guard currently as we just don't know what to expect from Kobe.
If we could land Pack (Howard can basically sell him on coming right in an starting, 5 straight Sweet 16's and more national games/attention than he would ever get at K-State) then we would have a projected line up of Collins/Pack/Williams/Houstan/Moussa.
Now, this also depends on if Houstan and Moussa leave. After that tournament showing, I can't imagine either would leave, but who the hell knows with these kids today. If they were to stay, our depth would be pretty interesting because now we would have Kobe/Jett/Reed coming off the bench.
Then we have 2 additional options in Barnes and Glenn.
Kobe is slotted as a 2 for next year. Obviously helps to have depth and maybe Kobe can play a bit at the 3. But we do have a 2 guard.
Yes, having to compete with a McDs All-American sophomore is probably not what he wants to do. Completely understand his interest in Purdue (and theirs in him).
Um, 43.6% from 3?
Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Say no more, say no more!
a nod is as good as a wink to a blind man, eh?
He probably be gone by time we figure who is staying and going out
Show him the NIL MONEY!!!

I want to hear from the first UofM student athlete that came here because our NIL put us over the top. Ill wait.
KSU grad here. Great player. sorry, but i'm hoping he is just shopping around a bit with the coaching change and will come back. If he does leave, UM would be a great spot.
Brian mentioned on the last pod that most of the P5 guys that are going to transfer are already in the portal. I was kind of surprised since it seems like a lot of guys wait a few weeks after the season to see how the coaching carousel goes and to look at their teams roster construction for the next year and how their post-season interviews go with the staff. Does anyone know if what Brian said is true and we shouldn't expect to see many more P5 guys at this point?
There are 1048 players currently in the portal. Since last week, it seems 30-40 more guys are being added to the list per day.
Yeah, that's what I thought and that's why I was so perplexed by Brian's adamancy that there wouldn't be any more P5 kids entering the portal. He did say that any of the ones that do pop up have already decided where they're going but I really don't think that's the case.
2 more since I posted. You'll probably see some more guys once the 1050 start to make their decisions. Guys that look like they'll be starters and then someone transfers in to start in front of them. I'm all for guys transferring and not having to sit a year, but the current state of things is absurd. I've got to imagine the covid year is also adding an extra layer to the portal. Hopefully, that'll get worked out over the next two years.
I know one smaller conference (I think the SoCon) had something like 65 transfers last year and there are 10 teams in the conference. That's a crazy amount of turnover and at that level it's hard to reload and sustain a program. Then you see a school like LSU loses 8 guys to the portal this year and you wonder if it's because the checks stopped cashing or the new coach told them they would actually have to learn to run a set play.

They were really dedicated to the bag...err... school.
Sounds like he's headed to Purdue or somewhere close to Indy but seems like a talented offensive player. No idea about him defensively but I'm sure he's functional.
