Ohio's Class is full
http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2012/01/maxed_out_with_scholarships_oh.html
According to cleveland.com, Ohio's class is at their limit unless Urban does his best Saban impression in spring practice. Now, this can only help us with Reeves, but again, Meyer is from the SEC, so don't expect too much from him.

I love the second part of this comment. How fun would it be to compare Ohio State's fans' views of Meyer before and after the hire?

early enrollees as 2011 commits? I thought that the article mentioned this without doing the math.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:38 PM ^
They're up against the 82 and not the yearly 25 so it doesn't matter. If you knew that and were just wondering, sorry and I don't know.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:06 PM ^
I didn't get that answer when I read the article. Thanks.

Charlie Weis was full from the pancake social with Brian Orakpo but that didnt stop him from wiping out the chinese buffet around the corner.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:07 PM ^
some of the guys on the current roster were transferring or thinking of it. My first thought was "that's normal," my second thought was "here comes the SEC style manipulation of the roster." Don't be surprised if more spaces become available if they need them. And don't be surprised if some of the generic 3 stars Fickell seemed to be recruiting decommit if they need them to.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:39 PM ^
The sketchiest thing I've heard so far is that one of the current scholarship players is Adam Griffin, considering his father, two time Heisman trophy winner Archie, is a faculty member who presumably makes enough money to afford what I would also presume would be legally discounted tutition, that they might take his scholarship away.

Hey guys, visiting OSU fan here. I read this blog every so often because my officemate is a big UM fan and he's always sending me links to this blog. As far as college sports blogs go, this is pretty high up there in quality.
Which is why I had to intervene here, so to speak, and call you guys out on this thread. I understand having a natural dislike of a rival's coach, but you guys have such blind hatred for Urban and he hasn't even had his first Spring game yet! Very likely a testament of his dominance in his two months in the recruiting battleground nationwide.
Most of you are convinced Urban is shoving kids away or doing something shady, but none of you have anything but 100% speculation that is contradicted by facts. We've had two kids get kicked off the team because they had multiple run-ins with the law (like your boy Stonum). We had two kids transfer for their own personal reasons (Cash and Durham), and those were anything but "good" transfers (if there's such a thing) for us, Cash in particular was someone who was likely to get a look this year on the field at DB.
Ohio State does NOT have a culture of over-signing. Tressel's record is clean. Nor does Urban Meyer have a record of over-signing, as some of the less homer-ish fans here have already pointed out. You guys always act like you are being reasonable and logical, but then you say argue that Meyer having tough conditioning sessions is some sneaky way to get unwanted kids to leave. Huh?
You guys are better than this. Stop worrying about what we do unless there's something to worry about, and we'll see you in November.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
See, I can definitely agree with you about some of the speculation about Meyer and whatnot, but it's a big story if your school is at their scholarship limit and is still pursuing uncommitted athletes (some of which are going to come down to M/Ohio). Judging by the thought you put into your post, I'm sure you can see that we're interested in how this might be possible.
On a side note, you should have read the threads last spring when it became clear Hoke and Co. were going for a full twenty-eight member class, there was much worse being posted than the stuff being said now.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:58 PM ^
I appreciate the sentiment. But it seems like the general consensus (maybe not full) in this thread has been - Urban Meyer is not like many of the SEC coaches, don't you think?
At least that is my reading.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:05 PM ^
I think the NCAA would have something to say about that.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:27 PM ^
But judging by your level headed criticism, and use of paragraphs, I refuse to believe you're an Ohio fan.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:52 PM ^
Also, EE's count in last year's class. We will be at our max of 82 scholarship players even if they signing class is 25+ (which again if it goes over 25 it's because of the 6 EEs). But next year's class will be more like 15-17 signees, but I expect them to be 15-17 of the best recruits in the country.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:11 PM ^
Nobody's saying anything about class size, this is about the scholarship limit. Backdating doesn't do anything for the 82 limit, which still has to be reached by attrition if anyone else signs.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:28 PM ^
I think some people were confused. I know Urban and the staff know that what's going on with the 82 limit. They will be close though, that is for sure, but that is his intent. He wants to get as many of his players in here to get the team to what he wants, running his system, ASAP. Everyone already counts Berry as gone, and I've heard rumors of several other players hunting for transfers (non-spread players worried about PT, trouble makers that Urban won't put up with, friends/loyalists to the Tressel regime that is gone, etc.).
I understand the interest here and on OSU blogs, because like I said before, they are going to push it, but they have reasons and won't be doing it at the expense of anyone who wants to play and can play a la Saban's forced medical waivers, etc.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:51 PM ^
Yea, I don't think they're going to do anything shady at this point, but they definitely are pushing it, this close to signing day and everything (which could open the possibility of not so nice things happening).
On your first paragraph, we obviously know what that's like, it's just that this is all still going on. We were concerned about our class size back in the summer or so, but that's been pretty clear now for a few months. Urban is going to have a lot less time to react if things don't go as planned.

TO all visiting ohio fans... any state that produces a band called "the dead schembechlers" can fuck themselves right off the planet.. neg me whatever, not exactly above reproach i know but at this point im sick of being nice. Stick to that shitbag bucknuts blog... when we want your opinion, we'll give it you
January 27th, 2012 at 4:02 PM ^
Coming from the guy who earlier today had a pretty damn homophobic signature line, you're right that you're not above reproach. This post seems more fitting for M-Live or ESPN's comment sections, why not tell them that over there?
January 27th, 2012 at 4:07 PM ^
Ill be as polite as the day is long to people pal, but i can not stand hearing from people who can celebrate a state where that exists (the dead schembechlers).. really? Im passionate about my hero's.. no apologies here
January 27th, 2012 at 4:10 PM ^
People doing that =/= all people from Ohio, or even all Ohio fans. Just pointing that out, pal. This board would suffer if there were no perspectives from MSU/ND/Ohio, and none of them on this thread have given you or I any reason to think otherwise.
January 28th, 2012 at 8:49 AM ^
if you check "bo biafra" twitter.. it still says, official twitter of the lead singer of the "dead schembechlers" as of yesterday.. i know this because pat forde of yahoo retweeted him. I follow pat forde only reason it caught my eye. I was well aware of the name change, hence my outrage when i still saw that. Im not so blind that I think that other view points aren't of value, but i do not believe this board would "suffer a great deal" without them. We all know people who are fans of other schools bless their little hearts and can get enough feedback, insight whatever from them outside of this board. Apologies if my comments were construed as ignorant, but if you knew me, you would understand my sarcasm.
For the record i could care less about being on anyones good side. Just clearing the air.
Go Blue!

Right after Bo died the band changed their name to "Bastard Sons of Woody." I believe they actually issued a public statement immediately after Bo's passing that was nothing but class and said they would have to change their name to not be disrespectful. It's okay to be passionate about your heroes but get your facts straight. It's not like they formed after he died and pissed on his grave.
January 28th, 2012 at 4:43 AM ^
formed in 1990 when Bo was still very healthy and alive. When the coach died they already had a performance scheduled that night and announced a few hours before they were immedidately dropping the band's name. They also dedicated that night's performance to "the most valiant foe that OSU has ever faced" and donated all the profits to a charity of the Schembechler family's choosing (~$6,000 to The Bo Schembechler: The Heart of a Champion Fund).

I had a good laugh at this post.

It's ruff being from the city.................just sayin.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:43 PM ^
Nothing to see here, people. I hate Ohio St. as much as the next guy - actually, I live in Columbus so I may hate them 0.1% more - but I very much doubt there's anything illegal here. Urban Meyer's not an idiot and isn't going to do something egregiously untoward right off the bat. He's not going out of his way to accomodate Fickell/Tressel players who he doesn't have use for, but it's a stretch to say he's going full-on Saban. (If Hoke had been in a position to show the Cissokos and Feagins the door, I for one wouldn't have batted an eye.)
That said, if I hadn't been following recruiting with some interest and I'd seen the cleveland.com headline, my eyebrows would certainly be raised - the headline was certainly phrased in a way that would invite skeptical inquiry. I didn't think there was any particular animus between Doug Lesmeris (sp?) - the beat writer of that article - and OSU like there is with a certain Mr. Hooley. Buckeye fans here - am I correct on that?
January 27th, 2012 at 4:47 PM ^
Doug is a very good beat writer - and he certainly doesn't report with scarlet and grey blinders on. He was tough, but fair, throughout the entire scandal the past year. No animosity between Doug and OSU that I know of.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:51 PM ^
That's the impression that I had. We'll trade you him for Drew Sharp and even throw in Mitch Albom as a bonus. :P
January 27th, 2012 at 5:03 PM ^
I read his stuff all the time, and while he may not wear blinders, his coverage almost always slants in ohio's favor, IMO.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:47 PM ^
No, no it's not full. They still have at least 5 guys they can take this year.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:28 PM ^
They just got 5 car leases gassed up and ready to go.
