Night Games

Submitted by Jahjah7170 on

What is the deal with this team and night games? Under Jim Harbaugh they are 2-4 in night games with losses to @Utah, @Iowa, Florida St, and now Michigan State. Their only wins were against Rutgers and @Minnesota... the Rutgers win barely even counts. What is the deal with this team? All the games have been close, good games that was could not pull out. Why can't we win these night games?

We haven't had a good offensive line in over 10 years. I betcha most of those losses featured horrific rushing performances with maybe 1 or 2 over 100 yards. Quarterbacks are below average. Idk man, with Penn State looming you and chuck another L up there. I don't see how we win that game.

Hilarious part is they’ll win the game 10-0. Don brown and the defense, lord bless them, will hold Saquon all night and shut out their WRs while containing Mcsorley for the most part only for our offense to shit bricks and cower under the lights.

Oh yes, I agree. This is such a wasted year with such a great, championship caliber defense that just has to sit and watch the offense shit the bed every drive. Must be very frustrating for the veteran defensive players especially.

We beat Minnesota and Indiana close and have lost every other close game. 2-7 in close games. Is that mire good or bad ?

And now you know why Team Noon (trademark belonging to Wolverine Devotee) is against these games.

All we did was give a showcase stage for msu and in the process complely humilated ourselves.

And as much as people praise the 2011 Notre Dame, that game was mostly a farce.  I am still amazed that people cherish that game as a favorite game or as special.  It was just a preview that without a massive amount of luck, the team would be horribly coached under Hoke.

Having attended the 2014 Penn State game, that game was also physically painful to watch.  To top it off, we got a gift from the refs (probably do to the botched call the week before against Rutgers) on that late onside kick that we could barely recover.

The 2013 Notre Dame aside from a few spots was impressive, but amazingly the program completely tanked after it the rest of 2013 and 2014.

Harbaugh is on the record saying he prefers day games, namely noon games.

Brown said the same thing.

You make your fanbase wait all fucking day is to watch a complete shit show.

Please stop with the fucking clamoring for night games.

Tonight proved there is no extra homefield advantage.  There was no extra energy or hype from our team.

Early in the game there seemed to be hype and energy from UM. After that fumble early on, the momentum shifted a lot and MSU had it for the rest of the first half. However, that shows a weak team.. one that folds at the first sign of a tough game and adversity

Ah yes the new excuse for why we lost: weather. They better Fucking figure it out bc championship games are played at night not noon gramps

Not bringing up any excuses at all. I am just pointing the fact that UM has been ass in night games even since Harbaugh got here. Not an excuse, its a fact. It does need to be fixed but we need better offensive coaches first and foremost to even make it to a championship game of any sort

If we’re not gonna have pom poms and more importantly WIN at night, than I’m gonna become part of team noon. There was no advantage of this game being at night at all. Suprisingly disappointed.

Then why are they able to win almost all their games during the day but are 2-4 at night? You think that’s coincidental? I sure do not think so, a good team wins these kind of games where things aren’t going their way but they find a way to win. This team hasn’t shown they could do that at all. It’s not coincidence we lose these close road games.

Tonight’s game couldn’t have gone either way. We can’t move the ball and we really can’t move the ball in a sheet of death rain. I said at the tailgate that we had to get 20 points going into half time because a storm was going to come and shut shit down. We instead gave up 14 going into half time and then well, a storm hit and shut shit down. Even when we started running the ball our coaches shut shit down. Tonight everything that had to happen for state to win happened. It’s too bad we all went and got wet and watched that shitty game because it was two average teams doing average things in horrible weather and well, the better of the average won again. You can’t be a good football team with bad quarterbacks and we have multiple bad quarterbacks that make shitty choices and cost us games. Night.

Yeah, that was pretty obvious with the weather forecast...in fact I think the rain came a little later than forecast. The weather was another factor. I actually expected more passing in the 1st quarter (when Michigan had the wind) to try and score and get up before the rain, but with the turnovers, the opposite occurred.

Most of your rant doesn't really relate to my comment, but I find it funny how you wrote, "I said at the tailgate that we had to get 20 points going into half time" like you had some sense of exactly how the game would play out. 24 hours ago you were one of many here taking the win for granted, saying we would win by double digits, etc.

And I'm sure I'll see the same shit next year. But don't worry, you're in good company with the writers here.

Is that the visiting team has won every game this year on the ABC prime time game (Alabama game was neutral site, not included)

All one has to do is Google "Michigan's Record in Night Games".  Someone has already put together a PDF going way back with dates and scores.  An intersting investigation would be as to how much these night game adventures have cost us in the national polls.  The simple fact is that we have never played well in night games.  Even if we win we play it much closer than it should have been played.  Bo was right - 12:00pm or 3:30pm -that's it.

I don't want another night game against MSU in 2 years. I miss noon games because I feel like a hostage waiting all day for the game. I am sure this doesn't help the team either. And Ulizio is really bad, hope he improves.

Yeah, doesn't seem to difficult to figure out. Outside of '97, U-M has always choked in big games in the 48 years I've been on this planet. Night games often fall into the "big game" category.
