Michigan Opens as 6.5-point Underdog vs. Louisville

Maybe a little lower than I thought it would be. LINK.

Their fans also seem to be talking a lot of crap about us on the message boards. A few of them are worried, but the majority seem to think we're not worthy of our ranking. LINK.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a basketball game in early December.

I'm assuming in college basketball, home teams in the ACC/B1G showdown get a customary 6.5 point advantage for being the home team?

Because that spread seems far too large to me.

Kenpom gives 25% odds to to UM, and torvik gives a similar spread. Sagarin actually has michigan rated ahead of louisville so I imagine that would likely be projected as a tossup.

We may not be worthy of our ranking, but I would be flat-out embarrassed to be ranked #1 while carrying a 338 (out of 353) ranked (Kenpom) non-conference strength of schedule rating.

Consider the travel. Louisville hasn't had to leave home yet (neutral game was a 2 hour drive). Michigan is very likely to have some hangover from the Bahamas followed by another flight out to Kentucky. I'd take Louisville and lay the chalk. I will be pleasantly surprised if that's not the result.

I'm not sure we were reading the same comments. Outside of one or two comments most didn't trash us. Now if you said you saw that was on Twitter, I wouldn't hesitate to agree with you. Twitter is a cesspool.

As long as they don’t get blown out, Michigan is playing with house money tomorrow. Even a close loss really doesn’t hurt Michigan much, if at all.

This all being said, I’m not expecting a win tomorrow. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a little bit of a hangover after flying back from a few emotional wins in the Bahamas, and then having to go right back on the road again to play the #1 team in America. Winning is absolutely still possible, but you’ve got to wonder if they’re a little drained.

Louisville is a solid team

But we were markedly better than them last year, and there hasn't been enough change for me to think we're not better again

Their arena will be rocking, but we should win this game.
