Michigan finalized its $490 million settlement with more than 1,000 survivors of sexual abuse by former team doctor Robert Anderson, the university announced Friday.
The settlement required consent from 98% of the claimants before it could be made official. Claimants and their attorneys will be responsible for deciding how to divide the settlement funds, and the university has no role in that process...
First post so hopefully I linked correctly

Add a zero, and you’re still not close to the B1G TV contract. Crazy.

Such a sad chapter in UM's history. While nothing can repair what was done, I'm glad the Claimants accepted the settlement and let the process of closure begin.

I'd be fascinated to learn about the process that gets you to 98 percent.

Seriously. Getting 98% of people to agree on ANYTHING is remarkable, let alone something as emotionally charged as this.

$500,000 each will buy a lot of agreement

And really, what else can the school do? Anderson retired 19 years ago and is now deceased. There probably aren't many people left at the university who worked with him.

Plenty of people who would look the other way are left over from that era. The money is still left from that era. Don't act like 19 years is a long time for a two centuries old university who trades on tradition.

Yeah. I assume there's a firm that has consolidated the vast majority of all of the claimants so they've likely been negotiating as a block and are confident they can get approval.

"The settlement required consent from 98%..."
If the past tense the uses is correct, they have approval.

That could have paid for a lot of Manning visits

Glad the survivors will hopefully get some financial compensation for their pain and suffering. Just a sad day in the history of the university.

Basically less than a half million per victim, minus attorneys fees. So maybe $300,000 per victim.

Sold all my Bo stuff.

I burned mine. I don’t want Bo stuff to be out in the market

I donated the $1350 I made to a local charity that advocates for abused children.

Is the statue still up? Genuinely curious.

Hope it brings them some closure. Nothing will ever make up for what they went through. Wish we'd stop lifting up Bo as a program and university but it seems the vast majority of the fanbase has decided to pretend nothing happened. Down with the statue.
