Good explanation. Another thing to notice though is Alabama lost to a now fringe top 25 Ole Miss, more decisively than Sparty did. Their wins are better, but I don't think they belong in front of ND with that loss.

Teams have good days and bad days.  Basing a comparison of nine game seasons (to date) based on the worst performance seems to me to miss the mark.  Shouldn't teams be compared when they are playing well over time, as that's why they are being put in the playoff to do?  (Now if a team makes a habit of it and has a lot of narrow escapes, that's another thing.  A team with a penchant for off days may very well have one in the playoffs.)

Clemson seems to have shaken some of their 'Clemsoning' nature but I still don't think they're nationally elite. They're like a Baylor or TCU. Always seeming to be elite but never quite playing the part

I am flabbergasted at how stupid the playoff committee appears to be... How is Notre Dame ahead of Ok.State? I seriously question whether or not there is a bias that exists in that room...

Notre Dame has a better resume. Per the AP, they have two top 25 wins (Temple, Navy). They have another fringe top 25 win (USC). Their loss came by 2 to the #1 team (Clemson).

OK State on the other hand has a top 15 win (TCU) and nothing else.

Temple does not look that great. Their best win was PSU I think. Playing an extra game should add to something, as it could involve a loss or a gain. If a team close to ND wins, it should jump them, if it is a quality win. So, beating Stanford may not be enough or should not be enough, unless teams fall apart behind them.

my head is completely spinning with all these scenarios...but I love that we can contemplate the possibility of getting into the playoff, however remote it might be.  Last year it was so depressing to be so far out of the mix.

M has a path to the Final 4....of course we win out thats the given...and in doing so would have beaten 2 top 5 teams OSU and Iowa....all we have to do is jump 10 spots...Many of the teams in front of us play each other...Baylor vs OK...Ok vs OK st..Baylor vs TCU..OK vs TCU..Stanford vs ND..Stanford vs Utah (Pac 12 title game)..Alabama in SEC title game,LSU still has Ark, Ole Miss and Texas AM...Utah still has AZ and UCLA....Clemson still has SC and ACC title game,....ande as we all know this is the time of year all kinds of crazy things happens....It could happen...just by beating 2 top 5 teams in OSU and Iowa would move us up alot......Indiana and Penn St on the road will both be very tough games..Gotta bring the A game from this point forward
