Toledo has an awful softball program, but it's now 10-0 in the top of the first with no outs (runners on first and second). That's ridiculous no matter who the opponent is.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:09 PM ^
Just took a look at Toledo's recent record - you are not kidding about how awful they are! They even contrived to lose to last year's Detroit team-like-substance. Even taking that into account, though, I don't know if I've ever seen a team put 12 batters on base to lead off and bring the first 10 home w/o a single out.
Also, 12-0 now, but two outs. Yeesh.

There should probably be a "if you lose to Detroit you're relegated to NAIA" rule in softball.
Toledo was apparently picked to finish above only EMU in the MAC West this season.
February 27th, 2015 at 5:06 PM ^
so there are plenty of teams a lot worse than they are.

she has 5 RBIs in the first inning..12-0...in two at bats...lol WOW
February 27th, 2015 at 4:14 PM ^
15-0 I wonder if this is a NCAA Record?
February 27th, 2015 at 4:58 PM ^
Bryant hit 7 in one inning last weekend. That is the record.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:14 PM ^
Michigan throwing in the backups now ... and they're homering too! Swearingen plays long-ball with a three-run blast, and the Wolverines lead 15-0!

I mean its only the first inning....Geesh...kinda feel sorry for Toledo
February 27th, 2015 at 4:18 PM ^
15 runs on 11 hits, no errors, 6HR.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:20 PM ^
How long in softball before they mercy rule it?
February 27th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
Run rule goes into effect if a team is up eight runs after five innings.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
Can mercy after 5 when up 8, so a looong way to go...
February 27th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
Can Toledo forfeit? This seems unnecessary.

According to the latest NCAA record book PDF, the most lopsided results ever:
Largest margin of victory: 43—Canisius (48) vs. Roberts Wesleyan (5), May 1, 1985
Largest margin of victory in a shutout: 37—LIU Brooklyn (37) vs. Delaware St. (0), March 18, 1995

Wagner puts Toledo down 1-2-3, Michigan back to the plate...

Sundevils are paying the Rockets to wear out UM. UM girls' arms will be exhausted from all those homers by the time we play ASU. Again, Sundevils.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:34 PM ^
In SB generally speaking the more at bats the better the hitters get...If thats the PLOT it could backfire big time
February 27th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
According to this, six home runs in a single inning is an NCAA record.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
The version you linked is a couple years old, but here's the updated one: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/SB_Records/2015/DivI.pdf . Unless someone else has out-done us this year, your statement still holds up. Michigan now holds the NCAA single-inning HR record!
February 27th, 2015 at 4:44 PM ^
Sweet, thanks for catching that! Pretty cool to own that record now!
February 27th, 2015 at 4:49 PM ^
UM's six HR's in the top of the 1st are the second-most ever hit in one inning behind @BryantSoftball, who hit 7 in one inning last weekend.

M bringing in all of the bench, by the way. 19-0 two outs.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:50 PM ^
Actually, according to @umichsoftball bryant university hit 7 in one inning last weekend.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
Guys... it's getting crazier. The lead is now 18-0 with two on, no one out in the top of the 2nd.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
Romero and Sweet have already been pulled (and Driesenga wasn't in the lineup to begin with).

What's the Michigan record for most runs scored in a womens softball game?
February 27th, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
Wagner puts them down in order, again. 18-0 top of the third.
February 27th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
So there is a mercy rule in Softball right?
February 27th, 2015 at 5:00 PM ^
8 runs after 5 IP.
February 27th, 2015 at 5:00 PM ^
Toledo scores off an error, 19-1 heading to the top of the fourth.
February 27th, 2015 at 5:01 PM ^
Toledo breaks up the no-hitter in the third and plates a run. :( Michigan with 6 more outs to try to crack the 20-run plateau.
February 27th, 2015 at 5:04 PM ^
And there it is! Swearingen cranks her second homer of the day, and Michigan leads 20-1.
February 27th, 2015 at 5:12 PM ^
February 27th, 2015 at 5:15 PM ^
Defense is getting a little lazy here with the big lead. A few errors have helped Toledo to some runs. Not a concern for this game, but you can bet Hutch will remind the team that they'll need a sharper edge when it comes to ASU later today!
