Juwan had the largest deal in NBA history at one point, but the deals are much much larger now.

With that kind of money it makes you rethink your life choices.  I should have pursued the NBA.  If only I was taller, more athletic and interested in basketball. ..-and dedicated. And…

Cool story bro time… when I was a little kid, my pediatrician extrapolated out my growth curve, did some calculation and told my parents I was going to be 7’2”. They explicitly never told me that story growing up because they were worried I’d quit paying attention in school and just play basketball (and they were right).

Something like 17% of people over 7’ worldwide play in the NBA.  Are you mad at your parents or are you well adjusted?

I had a housemate who was 6’8” and never played basketball.  He got “do you play basketball “ at every bar he went to. he’s making NBA money as an ad exec now.

A lot of people who are 7+ ft. have health problems later in life because the various systems of the human body were not designed to support such a large frame. Even if they are able to avoid chronic medical conditions, they become injury-prone and have to deal with a heightened risk of more serious injury due to accidents than people of normal height.

Poor Shawn Bradley (who is 7'6") probably would not have been paralyzed when his bicycle was hit from behind if he had been shorter.

Nah, they have owners who dont give a fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk about the luxury tax and are basically working voodoo accounting to make this team stay together at this point. I believe I last heard a few weeks back that their luxury tax penalty for the upcoming season was supposed to be as much as the salary cap itself. Truly insane.

They are all-in on win-now mode and probably want at least 2 more championships before Thompson/Green leave in the next few years. Curry is also very old by NBA PG standards, so the time to win 2 more is now.

This contradicts what Lacob was saying earlier this summer. He's one of the "poorer" owners as is, and the tech/VC winter doesn't help matters.

The Warriors spent $1.4 billion to build the Chase Center in the most expensive city in the country and didn't receive a dime in taxpayer money to help defray the cost (by way of comparison, Little Caesars Arena cost around $860 million to build, of which taxpayers covered around $365 million). They had cheaper options, but they wanted to be in San Francisco and they didn't care what it cost. I don't think they'll let the luxury tax deter them from paying what they have to pay to maintain their dynasty.

It's certainly a lot of money, but then, the NBA makes a lot of money.  Under the collective bargaining agreement, a little less than half of league basketball-related income goes to the players.  If they made less, more money would go to the owners, who are richer still.  Would that be better?

I am a free market guy. We, as Americans, place too much value on professional sports.

Like I said, I am happy for Jordan Poole and if I was in his position I would take every dime I could get but the fact that he is making 140 million after only averaging 18.5 points per game from one season demonstrates to me that "we" place too much value on a game. For this reason, I haven't spent a dime and very little time on professional sports for over a decade.

The reason I watch the college game is because I still believe the players are representing the school. I know the college game is quickly transitioning into the NFL light and when that transformation is complete then I will abandon it as well.

NBA is the best league for player to revenue ratio.  Way more players in every other sport.  Sick money per player in NBA.  Parents raise your kid to aim for NBA.
