JoePa on Bolden: "If we need him, he's ready to play."

Submitted by CollegeFootball13 on

Said in an interview on College Gameday.

Still won't start, but seems like he's cleared to play. Kind of a weird situation.

Not really weird situation.. Bolden didn't practice until weds or thurs? I would rather have someone start who has practiced all wk long then someone who prepares 1 or 2 days before the game

All this "will he play, won't he play, who's the QB?" chatter seems eerily reminiscent of an episode of Coach. Sounds like JoePa's taking a page out of the Screaming Eagles playbook.

Why do I get the feeling that if we win this game, folks are going to downplay the victory? People in the media keep saying RR needs a big win over a big ten opponent, and that's why this game is important...but if we win, I feel there will be excuses and downplaying of the W. I hope Bolden plays.

just the name of the game..

People who aren't Michigan fans generally by and large hate Michigan (at least athletically), so it wouldn't surprise me in the least. But, with all that in mind, PSU still has an Sr. All B10 HB.. I don't care if their line is made of former towel boys and over-sized third graders, that alone should make your offense at least somewhat competent.
Never let people off the hook for a down year, because I still remember 2008. No one let me slide with the "We lost X Y and Z and had this bad luck etc".

If we are waiting for people who dislike Michigan to ever give this program credit, I hope we brought a steady supply of water and food to sustain us.

When we win next year, it will be more about the losses of the other teams we are beating or all Denard.

We have made huge strides in the last few days in ignoring the MSU asylum. The next step is ignoring totally the MSM haters.

We'll get there.

I disagree. People who study stats are always going to find out the truth of the strength of a victory - what you're talking about is the prestige increase from the win that will result with people who are "lay fans" of college football. Those fans will see that we beat Penn State - a "good program" - and will praise us accordingly.

That is IF we beat them tonight. Let's not forget that hasn't happened yet. Hopefully the players aren't as confident as we are.

Not sure what you mean about hoping the team isn't "confident" like we are... If you're saying that you don't want the team to assume this is a W and look forward to next week, I HIGHLY doubt that is the case. Sorry if my "if" scenario above makes it seem like I assume we win... because I don't assume anything anymore.

The state PSU is in, this has fallen to Purdue level "disaster if we lose, 'whew' if we win". It's not a huge accomplishment, it's taking care of business. Which this team needs to start doing.

But as said below, it's not something to apologize for either. No one regrets beating 2008 Michigan (or '09 for that matter) just because we sucked. And no one cares about the reasons you lose years later (see 2007, for example). It's would be another notch of dominance over PSU and a nice can of STFU for 3 years since they're off the schedule. (Unless we meet them in a Big Ten Championship Game :-)

"If we put the quarterback who didn't practice all week in the game, MacFarve is stinking up the joint and we are probably down by a lot."

are right on the money. Bolden will play. And he will lose.

I'll be very disappointed if we don't roll over PSU, with a small allowance for the white-out/night atmosphere. If PSU is able to stop our offense with any regularity, then I might worry. That shouldn't happen. Go BLUE.

Come on Denard!!!! Looking for that 200 /200!

that Bolden is the 2nd or 3rd string for this week- if something were to happen to McGloin and/or Newsome, he has to go with somebody....but my money is on Bolden getting some significant snaps tonight.

"If we need him, he's ready to play."

I wonder what JoePa's definition of "need" is: if they're down by 14 points in the 1st quarter, do they need him? In the 4th quarter? Or, do they "need him" right after kickoff?

Does this game have the same feel as before UConn? Not really knowing what to expect, a win and you can foresee good things happening, a loss and there is a chance of possibly a spiral downward and the doom and gloom takes over? I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Yeah, I get that feeling this week, at least moreso than usual. I didn't feel like the last two weeks had the same sense of urgency. While they were definitely games we could have won, I thought that both MSU and Iowa were better than us this season. In retrospect I'm not so sure they are.

Boy sure seem like this ones gonna be a tough one to watch, but i think D Rob tired of people sayin negative things bout him and the team, I think he understands that he doesnt have to win the game, just dont loose the game...he has to run and not delay on some plays and understand that Penn St gonna blizs....but I think we killum...I hope!!!!!!!!!
