JMo: incredible before/after pics

Submitted by StephenRKass on

There is a pair of shocking "before" and "after" pics of Jordan Morgan in a Freep article.

Personally, I find these pics more astonishing and incredible than the ones of Stauskas. Sanderson needs to be given a lot of credit for player conditioning. Seriously, these are like the infomercials we see all over.

I actually really like the article on JMo a lot as well. For those of you who don't have a hangup about Freep links, here it is:

LINK:  http://www.freep.com/article/20140325/SPORTS06/303250026/jordan-morgan-michigan-basketball-tennessee-sweet-16

Here are a few quotes:

He failed U-M’s first conditioning test, “the gauntlet.” It’s sideline-to-sideline, touching 17 lines in a minute. Then rest a minute and do another one. On and on. He didn’t just miss the standard. He had no chance.

And another:

Thinking back this week (to last year in the Tourney,) Beilein said Morgan “couldn’t have been lower in his life.” Morgan gives faith to God, who he feels gave him another opportunity. But he did most of the work, grounding himself with a summer Athletes in Action trip to the Ivory Coast, being patient in the first half of the season as Mitch McGary worked into shape, and seizing the chance when McGary succumbed to January back surgery.

Read the whole article if you have the time.

I would kill to be at only 29.2% body fat.  This... This is my wake up call.

Ed:  Why did I just now think of Captain Morgan?  Ugh, this is far too late.

It has seemed to me that this year in particular, he's quicker and a better leaper than before. There have been times this year where I've thought 'Could Morgan make it in the pros as an effort/defense guy against forwards?' Before this year, I didn't think that even for a moment. I still think it would be VERY hard, but nothing has ever come easy to Morgan is my perception..

Two caveats  when you said it is more impressive than Nik's photos.

#1 Nik did his transformation in 12 months; I believe the 2 photos above are 4 years apart for Morgan.  #2 Morgan had an entire redshirt year just to change his body - he never had to worry about an actual game.  Nik did not have that luxury.

Also how things "look" depends a lot on body type - I have a hard time putting on weight due to high metabolism, sort of like Tayshaun Prince or maybe Caris to a degree. Those type of guys may add 10 lbs and it doesnt look "transformative" like it does for a guy who is pudgy and drops 15 lbs, and converts a lot of fat to muscle.  Also, a guy with broad shoulders like Morgan always will look better in a "body building" photo than lanky skinny guys with narrow shoulders like a Caris.    Nik is sort of narrow too.

Anyhow to your greater point - yes good job to Morgan, I think the transformation for HIM in particular that is amazing is he did not play a minute in the VCU game last year and fast forward 12 months and he played 35 minutes I believe vs Texas.   His body was probably quite similar in those 12 months but what a change in everything else.

If the change is as drastic as before/after I think I'll look more like that one. Great job Morgan. For you young guys, reverse the before and after pics and that's what turning 40 does to you.

looks like he's sucking in his gut too. The second picture looks like a dude that would rip my arms from their sockets and beat me to death with them if I got on his bad side and he weren't such a damn fine gentleman.

Great kid. One more reason to root for Morgan and a deep run is that he plays the "Michigan Man" role so well that it can't help but resonate with future students and their parents, both academic and athletic.
