Graduate Transfer target OC Chad Lindsay to visit Oklahoma, Louisville

Submitted by Ghost of BCook… on

Offensive Line problems have been debated ad nauseum on here and I think most welcomed the possibility that Alabama graduate transfer Chad Lindsay, a center with some decent experience in a great program, could end up in Ann Arbor due to his Nuss connections.  Brian was so confident, he said  this about Lindsay in his "27 Tickets" post:

Hard to say a fifth-year transfer is a lock, but… uh… he's not coming here to play cribbage

It took 45 minutes to ruin my excitement.  That's how long after the MGoBlog front pager was published it took Nick Baumgardner to publish a short article on Lindsay planning visits to Oklahoma and Louisville.

So where are the hot cribbage spots in Ann Arbor?

Putting him on the "27 tickets" was soooo ridiculous. It would almost be funny if he didn't come here. Almost, but obviously not.

Talk about counting your chickens before they are hatched.  Plus, this news about Lindsay visting OU and L'Ville was out before Brian posted 27 tickets, which made the inclusion even more surprising.

Maybe we should add Max Wittek to our QB "controversy" too.  I hear he's looking to transfer as well.

Why is he transferring in the 1st place?  Is he good enough to start here if he's not good enough at Alabama?  We actually have a decent center IMO in Glasgow.

Seems like a big to do about a former 3 start recruit who's been a career backup.

I never want to put down my own team, but let's be honest, right now Alabama>>>>>>>Michigan.  On top of that, our weakest position group is our O-Line.  I will happily take a proven backup OL from Bama over the best of what we have right now, if nothing else, at least to provide some legitimate competition.  There's no reason to not want him to come to Ann Arbor.

Sam Webb said today (yesterday?) that he talked to a Scout guy from Alabama who thought Bama was making a mistake in letting him go.  The guy told Sam that the Bama offense was better when Lindsay took over late in the year.  Also, remember that we're talking about a three star recruit who has played three years of college football and who is fluent in Nuss's offense.  That makes him potentially a lot more valuable than three star recruit X.

I don't know of an interview to date where Lindsay himself has said much about it. What I remember, however, is that he actually graduated last summer and that, at least according to Nick Saban, the decision was Lindsay's not to return for his final year of eligibility at Alabama. As someone said above, generally this happens because players would like to start perhaps, and as Ryan Kelly is definitely returning and is only a junior, I believe, perhaps that's a large part of why Lindsay is looking to play his final year elsewhere. Like I said though, to my knowledge he has not said much himself, but perhaps someone has more information.

is the dude likely more talented than miller or that pliska walkon?  very likely.  hes got 3-4 years experience in zone blocking scheme (arguably best in country) as well as 3-4 years experience down at sabans pro factory.  hes also been in college S&C program for 3-4 years so hes likely better off in that area and stronger at his 300 lbs than miller or kugler etc.  not saying hed walk in and start bc ive never seen him play just as ive never seen half of um's younger kids clock game reps...but theres literally no downside.  he instantly adds experience (even if its just handful of starts, hes still been thru the grind for 4 years of training and scout teams and meetings, etc) and another body to the competition and they have scholarships to burn so hes 1 off.  they need all the help they can get on OL and highly likely this kid has more talent than several of current dudes repping in those spots

I found it strange Brian had already penciled him in, though a kid saying he's going to check out a couple more schools may not mean anything.  Louisville just replaced its HC and is losing some talent, and while Oklahoma is really good it would be pretty ironic if he went to the team that just beat his old team.

But whatever, this line won't be saved by a single recruit.

I would think his choice has to hinge primarily on a) where can I be a starter? ( why transfer other than to play) b) which program is going to e the most successful= W/L, big stage bowl potential (Every grad transfer wants the Russell Wilson experience) and c) which grad program can I be admitted to that I can balance w/ football?

I think we have A & C, B is up in the air, although probably more likely with him than w/o given our lack if a proven center.
