A whole lot of schools will want him.

Sounds like he's following his coach to Washington.

Fresno State quarterback transfer Jake Haener is likely to transfer to Washington and reunite with his former head coach Kalen DeBoer, multiple sources tell 247Sports. DeBoer, who spent the last two seasons with Fresno State, was officially named the Huskies' head coach Monday. Haener entered the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Uh huh.  A tribalistic argument at its finest.

One minute it's "the transfer portal is good because it empowers players, providing opportunities for players to find a better fit without suffering a penalty of a missed year", the next minute it's "the transfer portal is bad because schools manipulate it."

Of course, the argument from one minute to the next varies depending on what "tribe" (the evil MSU or some other school that is less evil) is doing what.

No, the new rule is to allow up to 7 extra players over the normal 25 player limit to offset players leaving in 1st term

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ncaa-council-approves-proposal-to-replace-up-to-seven-transfers-in-expanded-recruiting-classes/

if the school stayed under a cap of 25 in the previous year, it can assign enrollees to the previous class, up to the 25-man total cap.

Will be interesting - read some UW articles earlier this year when the coach (Lake) got suspended for a game only to be fired the following Sunday, the general feeling among UW fans was the season was over and to start Sam Huard, the true frosh QB whose dad and uncle played at UW.

Sam was way over his head in the Apple Cup with 4 INTs (one a pick six) and less than 100 yards passing. Will be interesting to see what Kalen will do if he has his transfer and Sam vying for PT.

The QB recruiting at Washington has been interesting. 5 elite QB recruits in the last 4 years and none of them have really panned out.

They recruited Colson Yankoff (91ovr 4*) and Jacob Sirmon (96 4*) in 18, Dylan Morris (171 4*) in 19, Ethan Garbers (121 4*) in 20, and then Sam Huard (12 5*) in 21. Only Morris and Huard are still there.
