Durkin and Recruiting

Submitted by Lie-Cheat-Steal on

Yes, this is the n'th post to the board on Durkin but I have not seen this discussed yet.

Who was Durkin recruiting directly and how will it affect how this class finishes out?

Will this hurt us with Devin Bush and Rashan Gary?  As discussed ad-nauseum on the board, we really need some depth at D-line and some athleticism at LB.

is the draw. Durkin may have had an in with a few guys but if they were coming they are still coming and if they weren't they still aren't

Not Gary.  Mattison, Harbaugh and Partridge are on him.

Durkin was primary on all our LB recruits though.  So every single one of the LBs.  In addition, any one in MD area like Terrance Davis and Devery Hamilton might be talking to Durkin.

He bolted after a year. Someone like Narduzzi I could see where it was okay because of all he did for Dantonio and he still didn't take anybody. To me, he should get his own staff purely out of respect to Harbaugh.

What kind of pay scale and advancement opportunities does Maryland for for assistants? I'm thinking that Hackett pretty much opened the purse for Harbaugh and it's like a waterfall of money. And I don't mean like Niagra Falls where it's shut down at night. I mean all day, every day. There may be some draw for partridge to go back to Maryland, but that place is a tire fire for the football, pretty much.

In any case, Durkin going to a school in the same division is bad news.  He might have some inside info on who Michigan wants to get, etc., and use it to his advantage.  Who knows, but coaching is a cutthroat business.

i think Jim will send some friendly folks from Baltiimmore to college park to disuade any nefarious deeds.  Harbaughs still own Maryland.

Guys, relax.  This is pretty easy without going name by name.  Michigan typically recruits by position group.  In addition, coaches have certain geographic areas that they keep relationships with.

Durkin was in charge of LBs.  Therefore, we're talking Jonathan Jones, Dontavious Jackson, David Reese, Caleb Kelly, etc.

I said it above and might be starting to believe it. This does not appear amicable. Perhaps there were some things Harbaugh was less than pleased with. The Indiana game was a debacle and really ended any playoff hopes and Harbaugh is not one to always approach things in yhe most level headed fashion. To go within division and try to poach staff is a somewhat overtly hostile course of action. I would guess there were issues between Durkin and Harbaugh.

was a punk move to interview that week to begin with. My guess is coach wasn't happy about that to begin with. The conference title was still in play and he is a first year DC for the team. Somebody who truly understands the nature (or cares at all) of that game does not take that call that week.
