Derrick Walton Appreciation Thread
I know there have been a number of threads about the state of the program and everything else, but I have to give it Derrick Walton. I can't remember the specific details of the play, but off a Michigan miss he dove head first for a loose ball, came up a bit short and got called for the foul. I wish I could see that every possession from our guys. Acknowledging his flaws as a player, he gives it everything he fucking has every time he steps out on that floor. He will be missed next year. Badly.
And, by the way, he outrebounded our two starting bigs + Donnal combined by something like 4-1. If for no other reason, this team is worth watching just see him battle and go up for boards and dive for loose balls for all 40 minutes.

I clicked on this thread to say just that. Walton busts his ass on the court and his energy is just not matched by the rest of the team. That is sad.

Ha, that's just too fitting. Donnal is soft as charmin.

he's not always played hard and inspired (it's just recency bias for anyone who thinks that) but he is taking his game up a notch and playing hard as his senior season is winding down and it is great to see. Definitely will miss him.
FWIW, it does look like Irvin is giving A+ effort, too. Maybe even too much. His issues are just missing shots (and being a little too eager taking bad shots) and turning it over trying to make too much happen. He's giving strong effort too. A bit sad to see this happen to him in his senior year.

had a pretty good game too. An efficient 12 pts and 7 rebounds. Crazy that he and Walton each had three OREBs and the rest of the team had one. One single OREB from our non-guards.

....even inside the soft/finesse culture that Beilien has created.
Much love to D Walt

I love Walton's game this year. His freshmen year when he stepped up against Sparty and Ohio State i knew he'd be good. He will go down as one of the most under rated players in recent years.

looks like the hungriest player on the floor for Michigan.

And it shows.

When the guys around you don't want anything to do with the ball, you almost have to step up. He's a senior and he doesn't want to go out losing. It's great to see him hit the 3s. His rebounding has always been elite for a guard because he WORKS AT IT. How can the other guys watch him on the same floor and play like they do?? I don't get it. It defies human nature.
