Hawkins's inability to catch up -

Long is undoubtedly faster, but in defense of Hawkins, don't overlook that Hawkins was directly behind the runner so he had to follow the weaving. Long was able to run straight line to a spot.

Just trying to help Brad out a little.... :)

But yeah, other than that and a couple other plays...pretty good outing by the defense!

Pretty soon he’ll be able to get a Maybach to match Brian’s.

No, see berating and belittling kids is a tactic. And clearly was just what this young man needed. That, and watching animals devouring each other while you eat some waffles at team table.

Alabama's home slate, truly Wisconsin-level scheduling right here:

Arkansas St.

Texas A&M

Miss. State

We currently have Perry and Martin available. Your statement would imply that neither of them are capable of providing/producing in the short passing game. I find that hard to believe.

That in fact may be the case, but it would definitely be surprising and disappointing.

The fact that OSU gets the most favorable holding calls (except for MINN LOL) and UM is infinite standard deviations below the norm makes me upset.

09/28/2018 - 10:09am On the safety, was the QB…

On the safety, was the QB even in the end zone? It looks like he leaps from outside the goal line. So an intentional grounding call, sure. But I didn’t think it was a safety.

09/25/2018 - 11:25am #13 - I don't get this one,…

#13 - I don't get this one, the ball never hits the ground.

Is the issue that returner never possessed the ball? I mean, if the defender rips the ball out of the returner's hands during the run back, he could advance that right?

But in this case the ball is dead because the returner never possessed it first? Usually you see the returner drop the ball and Thomas would have picked it up off the ground. That, I get.

Also, welcome back Ace!!!

I would think so too, the main point of the post was lamenting the lack of big time non-conference wins. And astonishment that Maryland of all teams is the one with the best win.

Nice!!!!  His measurables seem more S/CB than S/Viper(!!!) is that accurate for those who know his play style/potential role?

That was an absurdly long game. I wonder how long the commercial breaks added up to? And just this morning on the BTN show, the lady said she’d improve the game by running the clock after 1st downs. Like THAT is what is making the game unwatchable.

These meat references. I do not get them. What is with all the meat references? Can’t this blog be a normal, non-meat referencing blog? Just for once?!?

Finally! I’ve been waiting 4 long years for he ‘monkey rodeo’ tag to be used again. I wonder how long I’ll have to wait now for the next one.

Jeebus, only 8 recruited over 3 classes (2014-16)??? No wonder it has been subpar. You would need 100% hit rate for that to be even adequate. Let alone accounting for injury, transfer, lack of development.

06/13/2018 - 2:49pm Yeah, let’s have a thread…

Yeah, let’s have a thread where list college kids who we think are terrible. That sounds like fun.

04/13/2018 - 7:37pm I've seen him shoot many jump

I've seen him shoot many jump shots, covered and uncovered. IMO he uses his wrists too much, which is partly a result of his arm motion. I just thought that picture was a good example of it - and consistent with his general shooting motion.

04/13/2018 - 5:53pm Matthews shot form

That picture of Charles Matthews is a perfect shot to show what he'll need to work on in the offseason.

His arm is almost fully extended but the ball is still resting on his fingers. That means most of the action on his release comes from his wrist, not his arm/elbow. At that point the ball should be out of his hand or at least nearly out.

More wrist = less accuracy. That will be job number 1 for him. He is very fluid and coordniated obviously, so hopefully it is just a matter of repetition.

03/31/2018 - 10:55pm Has MAAR had a good game since

Has MAAR had a good game since that ridiculous pic of him on the banner has been put up? Just sayin'.......

03/31/2018 - 10:38pm "The Drip Boys" - Matthews

Hell yeah!!!!! Title game baby, wooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

03/19/2018 - 1:14pm Poole (and Livers and MAAR)

Poole (and Livers and MAAR) saved us from what was a very frustrating last 60 seconds. We are up 1 with 50 some seconds. We then get to being down 2 without Houston running any offense.

Livers gets a (mostly phantom) push/over the back call. HOU gets free throws. We miss again and I think Matthews fouls on the rebound. Bam, down 3.

To have lost without making Houston run any plays or take any actual field goal attempts really had me frustrated. Then Poole made it all better.... Go Blue!!!!!

03/14/2018 - 9:39am They may recognize an

They may recognize an alternate path, but is that supported by biblical scripture? Not being argumentative, just curious. I feel like I remember you had to at a mimum accept Jesus as your savior. I think he's quoted as saying that. Not sure though.

Coming up with alternate paths that don't jive with what is laid out in their own rule book seems like a coping mechanism to avoid the fact that lots of 'good people' wouldn't get into Heaven.

03/14/2018 - 8:30am I'm pretty sure

I'm pretty sure Christians believe that to get into Heaven you have to, you know, belive in Jesus.

But if you have another conception of a 'good' afterlife (Christian or otherwise) that has other entrance requirements, then he may very well be there. But I don't think non-believers can get in just because there were a 'good person' here on earth.

03/09/2018 - 6:53am Ok, after last night's games

Ok, after last night's games I'm really starting to worry. Maybe should stay home from work today, just to be safe. :)

Seth - please never highlight my name in blue. K, Thx!

That needs to be gif'd! That was awesome.

02/26/2018 - 6:10pm I had always assumed this was

I had always assumed this was the motivating force behind the feds getting involved. If someone is getting $100k payment and not reporting that to the IRS, they are not going to tolerate that for too long. And they have a few more teeth than the NCAA.

Isn't that how they got Capone.....

01/24/2018 - 9:52am Agreed. But making a forced

Agreed. But making a forced reference to Maizen, WD, etc. lets people signal that they are true board insiders.

01/19/2018 - 1:43pm I feel like the mix up he had

I feel like the mix up he had with Robinson was on Robinson though. Simmons was staying with his man, no reason to swicth that screen. Not sure what their rules are concerning those situations though.

But he does lose his man trying to help out occasionaly. But taht is in part a result of our defense not being great at keeping players out of the middle of the floor.

And also, even in an era where palming violations are virtually non-existant I am amazed that he has yet to be called for one.

01/03/2018 - 8:05am Very puzzling. Guy is a 5th

Very puzzling. Guy is a 5th year senior, has played a lot of basketball. 3rd month of the season now. How complex can the system be? Just put him out there and let him get some run. I still think he'd provide more spark than Brooks.

01/02/2018 - 11:25pm Is the main argument for

Is the main argument for Brooks getting minutes over Simmons that JB is developing Brooks for the future? Brooks had some good games early on, but has not much lately. Certainly nothing that Simmons can't do.

Simmons has a higher ceiling this year, and that is the year I am concerned about at the moment. I would like to see him get back up minutes behind Simpson as Brooks starts to hit the freshman wall.

11/29/2017 - 1:46pm In their (our) defense, it

In their (our) defense, it was at one point called Meijer's Thrifty Acre. But Ford's, Walmart's, etc. drives me nuts.

11/28/2017 - 9:17am Plus, both current tackle

Plus, both current tackle committs are definitely projects on the lighter side. One is listed under 260 and as a TE. I know they are 'Frey-type' tackles, but we need more bullets in the chamber that are ready to play early.

The two we have are high-upside for sure. But no guarantees of course, and probably won't be ready at least until RS Soph years.

I don't know if Petit-Frere is more college ready or not, but his recruiting profile suggests he may be. But definitely would like at least one more in the class. Two maybe too much unless we can flip a stud.

10/28/2017 - 7:40pm So none of those play calls

So none of those play calls for Peters in the first half were called for O'korn in the last several weeks. I wonder why?

FB out of the backfield? Stop route to a 6'4'' WR? RB on LB wheel route?

I bet O'korn was on the sideline wondering why they were calling McDiom fades for him.

10/16/2017 - 3:17pm FYI, the inspiriation for

FYI, the inspiriation for that terrifying ALF painting is Goya's 'Saturn Devouring His Son' from his Black Paintings. Which are also pretty creepy/terrifying in their own right. Check them out, they are pretty amazing.

He painted them directly onto the walls of his house. Pretty cheery fellow at the end, that Goya.

10/10/2017 - 12:35pm All good OL are probably starting

but there are likely decent non-starters. And decent >>> black hole.

Not saying it is a answer, at least not a good answer. But I don't think it is correct to dismiss it out of hand.

I don't know how anyone could look at the RT position this year and be glad if we had passed on a hypothetical grad transfer at that spot, just because it was a grad transfer.

09/08/2017 - 1:35pm I usually park in the city

I usually park in the city lot behind Connor O'neill's and have a pregame/postgame beer or meal there or another place around there. A little hike to the stadium but should be a beautiful day.

Plus you can park the whole day for around 13 bucks.

09/05/2017 - 8:24pm So we are like one of those

So we are like one of those northern German states in EUIV? High development, surrounded by lots of weak OPMs. We should be forming Prussia by early October.

08/29/2017 - 1:50pm If there is a silver lining

If there is a silver lining for Sparty, it is that they only have 2 senior starters?

08/28/2017 - 3:07pm Wait, EUIV is a dorky

Wait, EUIV is a dorky reference? That is probably the best game of all time.

08/22/2017 - 11:14pm +1000 for you! Just watched

+1000 for you! Just watched Stop Making Sense as well as this 'interview' again this weekend. Brilliant performance by a great musician.

08/20/2017 - 3:33pm I'm glad we play them every

I'm glad we play them every year. There are so many scrappy teams in the B10 west that it is good to have them on the schedule.

08/08/2017 - 9:42am Ok, even the most ardent ESPN

Ok, even the most ardent ESPN haters have to admit that is pretty awesome.

08/05/2017 - 8:29pm The Peppers package

Since we only saw about 2 different plays last year. I think he caught one screen pass maybe? I would have liked to see a few more of those and maybe some quick slants to get him in space.

Seems like we kept waiting until we'd see the full package, but was left feeling like there should have been more.

07/26/2017 - 3:57pm I feel like the 'Perfect

I feel like the 'Perfect Frey-type OT' is getting to be a little worn out. The same way all 3-star RBs don't turn into Mike Hart, not all 'Frey-type OT's' are going to become great players. I would like some actual 5* OT-type OT's' in the mix as well.

I'm sure the coaches do too, and we've had some bad luck between injuries, de-commits, and expected commits gone wrong. But replacing 'project' with 'Greg Frey-type OT' only works so many times before it becomes a little worrisome....

07/04/2017 - 9:53pm Thank God I don't have to

Thank God I don't have to recruit HS athletes.
Don't get me wrong, I want UM to get as many top players as possible. But what is being done in recruiting these days is weird and I would feel weird doing it.

06/15/2017 - 3:55pm I think Donnal gets a bad rap

I think Donnal gets a bad rap around here. 10-15 years ago he would have been a really good 4. In today's game he was too slow for perimeter 4's and too small to guard a 5. Classic tweener.

It is hard to bash the guy's defense (like Ace/Brian love to do) when he's being asked to do something that is incapable of.

When Borges asked Robinson to do a PA naked bootleg, that is Borges' fault not Robinson's.

Asking Donnal to guard centers isn't his fault either. Not blamiing Beilein, since what else are you going to do with him. Just saying that Donnal should be cut some slack.

06/14/2017 - 6:13pm That Spaceballs bit is one of

That Spaceballs bit is one of the most brillant scenes in comedy, both in conception and execution.

Good movie, like many Mel Brooks films, it alternates between genius and tediousness.

06/08/2017 - 12:59pm So again this year we will

So again this year we will have an open scholarship and have basically told a experienced upper classman that he is no longer wanted.

JB couldn't have anticipated DJ's departure beforehand I don't think, but that is why you maybe don't tell Donnal before the season that he can take a hike after his 4 years are up.

I understand Donnal's limitations, but I would much rather have him as another bullet in the chamber off the bench instead of just Teske/Davis/Livers.
