Denard's "Heisman pose" from the 2010 Notre Dame game. Which play was it?

Submitted by artds on

Of course, I'm referring to this...

...and this...

...which we've all seen 1,000 times.

However, it occured to me recently that I was never actually aware of which play this was, or when it occured during the game. Did we gain yards on the play? Was it a lot of yards? Can someone perhaps link to a video of the play on Youtube? TYIA.

I believe Te'o strung him out and he lost a few.  It was on the final drive, though, I think a play or two before he hit Roundtree at the 1.

What gives it away is the Michigan players standing on the sideline in the background.  We scored 2 touchdowns in that end zone that day, one was Denard's insanely long run and the other was the game winning TD in the final minutes.

Given what was about to happen, that makes the picture even better...even if he did lose a couple yards on the actual play.

Shortly after this game(when Denard was the Heisman favorite at the time), some sports expert(don't remember who) was showing Denard that picure and asked him what he thought of it.  Denard laughed and said he didn't like it because he didn't get that many yards on that play.  How can you not love the guy?!

I really wish Millen was calling this play in the booth, 'cause we simply would have heard "that's six" and then could have just enjoyed watching him fly down the field, instead of hearing tom hammond be bummed out he just broke a huge one.

Patrick Omameh doesn't get enough credit for his work on that play. He took out two defenders (Te'o one of them) with a single block. Without Omameh's block, Denard does not hold the record for the longest rushing TD in the history of ND stadium.

#1...everytime I watch that play, I watch at least 7 times. I like to watch just Denard, then just the offensive line, then the entire offense, then just the defensive line, then the defense as a whole...then I watch JUST the Michigan bench, and it's so good/funny, that I watch a 2nd time.

#2...a guy talking shit in a kilt, unless you're 300+ and can play the bagpipes for hours --- you fail at life. Just like male cheerleaders or flute player who talk shit at sporting events. Stop it, you're embarrassing yourself.

It's amazing the photographer got the picture he did. The whole play happened so fast, I had to rewind it and play it slowly just to see where "the pose" happened. Even then, it was fuzzy on the video.

I asked him how often his cover photo-appearance came up at his book-tour engagements and he said, "Almost never."  Few people know about it, it seems.

It was always a big deal to me:I posted about it as soon as I saw the photo.  Before anybody knew that there would be a book.  Before John's column announcing the book appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

I can't start a new thread, but I figured the board would appreciate this.  Last night the was the Indiana All-Stars vs. the Junior All-Star game.  Glenn Robinson III and Zak Irvin were the stars of their respective teams.  Robinson led the senior All-Stars with 21 points and Irvin led the juniors with 20 points.  Needless the say, the future for UM basketball is at an all time high.

Edit: Would someone mind starting a new thread so others can hear about our future stars?

It was a fantastic play by Te'o, but also a Huyge screwup to miss the blocking. I remember it well from the time it happened. Here's the UFR of it:

Ln Dn Ds O Form RB TE WR D Form Type Play Player Yards
O17 2 5 Shotgun 3-wide 1 1 3 Base 3-4 Run QB off tackle Robinson 0
Blitz off the edge draws both Huyge(-1) and Shaw when it should only draw one. As a result Te'o is totally unblocked and makes a tackle despite Webb(+1) burying the playside DE. One downfield block and Denard could break this a long way. (Run plus: Webb, run minus: Huyge.)

I'm 30, and he's on the short list of best LBs I've seen regularly.  Great instincts, and really agile for a big dude.

I remember Erin Andrews interviewing Denard and she showed him that picture, and Denard made a comment that he didn't really like the picture because it was a bad play.

Talk about quick twitch.  If you look at that play it is amazing timing that captured that moment.  You simply couldn't pose any better.  Man, here is to hoping we welcome our fourth Heisman trophy this year.  He needs to start with a great game against 'Bama.

I remember reading an interview with the photog (it was a Daily photographer) and he said he sent the photos in and the Daily sports editors just started going nuts--he wasn't sure why until they explained it to him, since he was not a football fan and not very familiar with the trophy.

Does anyone know where I can find the audio from the Notre Dame broadcast of the 2011 UTL game where the ND radio announcers were saying how Denard was a "poor thrower" and weren't giving him much of a chance, just before he hit Gallon for the huge gain? The sound of the ND radio broadcasters getting the wind taken out of their sails is priceless. I can't seem to find it on the Googles or the Youtubes. Can anyone help?

Whatever happened to the fine young lass at the 7:40 mark of this video.  It's a mystery as great as the Tianamen Square "Tank Guy" who disappeared after the infamous footage was shot...

EDIT:  I never did know how to embed video correctly.  Sigh...
