But if we go after someone from Lloyd's staff, how about Teryl Austin? There's a chance the Lions clean house after the season.

There are some rumors about Chris Ash leaving OSU for Rutgers or Syracuse. I hope losing coordinators in back to back years is gonna finally start to take their toll.

Except GMatt (as a former NFL DC) is more insanely overqualified for DL coach than his replacement could possibly be. I think it'll be easier to equal Durkin at DC than GMatt at DL, and that's what matters most--the whole staff.

This staff is special primarily because everyone but Zordich and Jaybaugh are supremely overqualified.

Moving GMatt is fine in theory if you can well replace him at DL but that seems way harder than well replacing Durkin at DC.

Several points:

1.) I've scoured the internet for absolutely every scrap of reporting on Durkin's likelihood to end up as the Maryland coach.  MD sources say that he's in the top group, with many believing he's the best feasible choice.  Michigan sources are either mum or believe he'll take it if he's offered.  Several sources are out there saying that although there's no agreement yet, MD intends to offer and Durkin intends to accept either today or tomorrow...

2.) ...but if coaching rumors have proven anything this year, it's that it's not over until there's a press release.  Dino Babers to UCF, anyone?

3.) If Durkin does leave, I want Pruitt and I think he's the obvious first choice with a bullet.  My second choice is probably Fangio, but I doubt Fangio would accept.  My third choice would be Shafer, but the strength of preference between Fangio and Shafer is enormous.  And I'd rather go off the beaten path than hire Mattison again.  EDIT:  Whoops - forgot an obvious name:  Lance Anderson.  I'd rather have Pruitt than Anderson, and my preference for Anderson is probably equal to Fangio.

4.) I think Durkin SHOULD go if offered.  P5 jobs don't grow on trees.  And I don't think his stock can get higher - I think it would be nearly impossible for his defense to improve from last year's.  But Maryland is hardly ideal - why on earth would you want to be in this division?  It'd be like taking the Mississippi State job or the Arkansas job.

5.) Also, my primary concern if Durkin leaves is the possible recruiting ramifications this year.  Does anyone have any idea who'd likely bail if he's out?

There was a tweet from Donatvious Jackson about how Durkin isnt going anywhere. He was sitting right next to him and had asked him about it. For the sake of lying to recruits ala OSU and Mike Weber, lets hope he isnt going anywhere especially if hes telling recruits that he isnt.

and the fact that Durkin is a pretty good coach make me want him to stay at least 1 more year.

Also, Maryland (if that's the option) isn't a great 1st job.

Barry Odom. He was DC at Mizzou this past year and was at Memphis before that. He just was being considered as the next head coach at Memphis. Mizzou had the 9th ranked total defense in FBS this past year.
