David Sills (2015 QB) offered
It looks like the second (first since Josh Rosen) 2015 QB offer has been extended per TomVH:
Tom VanHaaren @TomVH 29s
2015 USC QB commit David Sills, per his father, has been offered by Michigan. Dad says Hoke in-school right now.

Also, it appears Tim Settle, 5 star DT out of Virginia has also been offered
Steve Lorenz @TremendousUM 4m
#Michigan has offered 2015 five-star defensive tackle Tim Settle

The existence of this "school" makes me pretty uneasy.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:12 PM ^
I agree. I'm surprised Brady and Co would be so serious on these kids if their school might not even pass NCAA muster.
December 6th, 2013 at 4:01 PM ^
Their school has already passed muster for good FBS schools, including Michigan, twice. I would stop worrying about it.

You do realize that two Michigan commits attend the school Sills goes to? You also realize that many different guys have graduated from there the last few years and are at places lik USC. Oh wait, Wikipedia said it, so it must be true!
Edit: Beaten to the punch hardcore here. So I will provide something extra to make it worthwhile.
2013 guys who went to ECA and now are on a team, which clearly means they qualified:

I know. I guess I don't follow recruiting as close as I should.

December 6th, 2013 at 1:35 PM ^
Ok, well here's an insider tip. Two kids, I believe their names a Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson, go to that same school. And they're committed to Michigan!!
Mods can delete if this is inaccurate.
December 6th, 2013 at 9:25 PM ^
but Michigan has two other commits already from this school in the 2014 class.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:07 PM ^
That is very, very interesting.
I wonder if USC new coach, along with MI having two commits as teammates might sway Sills to reconsider his pledge to USC.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:10 PM ^
Lol Sarkisian > Kiffin in all ways possible. Don't know why he'd change his love of the school.
But if Borges really wants him, can't complain
December 6th, 2013 at 1:16 PM ^
SC has been looking at other guys for a while now. The new staff probably wouldn't have offered Sills and I'm sure will take any opportunity to bump him from the class. I doubt they put up any kind of a fight if Sills looks elsewhere.
December 6th, 2013 at 9:54 PM ^
It makes sense. This is only the second QB offer for the class and I think the staff is familiar with ECA and its players and coaches, so I really doubt Hoke would offer if they didn't think there was a realistic shot of him committing.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:08 PM ^
After half a decade of hype he's only a 3 star?
December 6th, 2013 at 1:17 PM ^
this is a factor of the exposure of the school. Pretty sure they didn't play any games at all last year, and not a ton of games this year. Unless he hits the camp circuit super hard this summer, I doubt he gets higher than low 4-star status. Canteen & Watson are both 3-Stars on Rivals as well:
December 6th, 2013 at 1:24 PM ^
Someone is going to have to explain why this high school was a good idea.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:35 PM ^
They stacked and loaded the team...and then no one wanted to play them Seemed like a bad idea. I wonder if it will continue to exist after Sills goes to College since his dad started the school.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:35 PM ^
Kenny Bigelow was #6 overall on Rivals in the 2013 class and Khaliel Rodgers was #51. Five other kids signed with Miss. St., UConn, Syracuse, and WVU in that class.
In addition to Canteen and Watson this year, they have a kid committed to Tennessee, one to WVU, and another with offers from Rutgers and UCLA.
Most people just aren't that high on Sills.
December 6th, 2013 at 5:27 PM ^
Canteen is actually 4* according to Rivals.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:22 PM ^
Pretty pretty pretty good
December 6th, 2013 at 1:58 PM ^
David Sills has not progressed like many thought he would when he first committed to USC. USC has even offered other prospects in the 2015 class despite Sills' commitment. I have a feeling Sills will not end up at USC.
One thing that troubles me about this offer is that it is another offer to a Steve Clarkson client. Clarkson is also Wilton Speight's QB coach and supposedly a friend of Al Borges.

December 6th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
1. This is a kid who received a lot of hype 4 years ago as a future 5 star QB and now is rated a 3 star QB with what looks like his current school (USC) evaluating other QB options in his own class (i.e. USC may not even want him anymore). Clarkson's business relies on his kids getting big time offers or making the NFL especially when one has received as much hype as Sills has had the past 4 years. I don't think Clarkson would outright lie to Borges, but I do think he is going to sell his clients as hard as he can.
2. It also could reek of laziness or incompetence to some. Not saying this is the case, but it is a bit of a coincidence to have two QBs back to back from the same private QB coach.
December 6th, 2013 at 2:54 PM ^
I hear what you are saying, and I do believe Clarkson is selling his clients as best he can. But Borges will not offer the kid based on Clarkson's opinion alone. Im sure he did his own evaluation, and apparently thought highly enough to offer him.
December 6th, 2013 at 2:56 PM ^
In terms of your second point, you cannot acuse these coaches of being lazy with QB evaluations. They have clearly done tons of eval before giving out any offers, so I really think point #2 should be thrown out the window.
As for point #1, some of that could be accurate (certainly the part about SC no longer wanting him) but that has nothing to do with his QB coach. And I'm sure these QB coaches will push their own kids, but there are a lot of QB coaches out there who are doing the same. And there's also a reason certain kids become the top prospect training with the top QB coaches, and it's not because they suck. Clarkson has his own reputation on the line as well.
But I think it still comes back to my first paragraph. Borges and our other O coaches have been extremely diligent when evaluating QBs which is why it has taken them so long every year to offer their guy. I can't imagine they just offer Clarkson's top guy every year and call it a day.
December 6th, 2013 at 4:28 PM ^
I think it would just be looked at as a coincidence if we didn't appear to be the outlier on both Speight and Sills, or if Borges had any history of bringing in QBs who ended up being really good. McNown, Campbell, and Lindley (and Denard/Devin) were there when he arrived, and I can't think of anybody following those guys who was anything special. SDSU started a JUCO transfer this year rather than a Borges/Hoke recruit.
As such, it seems unusual that we're apparently so high on guys most folks view as mid-level prospects and they both have a strong connection to this particular QB coach.
December 6th, 2013 at 4:44 PM ^
You could take that as a legit cause for concern. However, it's hard to tell who would really want Speight or Sills after they were offered. Sills has few offers since he has been committed to USC for so long (though Rivals shows a Clemson offer in addition to SC and UM). Speight is similar, in that he was more unknown before he committed but has since been named the Virginia HS POY. If he was still open, who knows what kinds of offers he'd have by now.
But both years, our coaches have either heavily evaluated or offered (Rosen) top-rated, guru approved QBs. Last year we passed on Cornwell for Speight, but Cornwell was close to getting the offer. This year, Rosen got an offer, and other top-rated guys have been on the short list. So it's not like we've only gone after the under the radar guys.

Personally I like the underrated 3 stars that come in with a chip on thier shoulder and something to prove.
December 6th, 2013 at 2:16 PM ^
Coach Brown, any idea if you will be able to get in touch with Sills to hear his thoughts on the offer and how much he will consider it? Thanks!

Offer Kevin Dilman!!! God this is frustrating

December 6th, 2013 at 4:03 PM ^
Agreed. I'm not a huge fan of Dillman. If we ended up with him it wouldn't be the end of the world, but he's not near the top of my wish list.
December 6th, 2013 at 3:03 PM ^
Pipeline?
December 6th, 2013 at 3:22 PM ^
This is interesting to say the least. The M Block just made a list of 6 QBs next in line for an offer and Sills wasn't even on it.
December 6th, 2013 at 3:22 PM ^
Not sure if it could be a pipeline, since I don't know if Sills father will keep his school up and running after his son graduates, unless he's decided to turn this thing into a pure football factory like some "schools" in Florida.
December 6th, 2013 at 4:33 PM ^
The hype around offering Sills is cool and all, but he isn't coming here. Offer Dillman. 5* out of Cali who wants to come and could help bring other West Coast talent to AA.
December 6th, 2013 at 4:38 PM ^
Solid offer. On the film of Canteen that I've seen, the kid has a solid arm. I couldnt care less that he doesn't have a "real" high school. He has worked with Steve Clarkson since a young age so he should be pretty polished mechanically by the time he shows up on campus.

there is research if you go look. I was curious myself. Max preps you can find his hichschool and check some stats. Last year he played 4 games because he was from sweden I believe. Then had to go back there and reapply for citizenship. He came back to hichschool and got a good offseason but tore an achilles after 7 or 9 games or so. He is also a teamate of Tyler Luata a target for TE.
It's not all about the stars guys, but I also dont mind taking a gamble with a few kids now and again with how much he is interested in michigan. If he is of high character and he ends up not progressing enough to be theQb he could be some other athlete. Or he could end up a great QB.
I personally like having a fairly mobile QB for when things break down so it would be nice to at least give him the chance
December 6th, 2013 at 6:19 PM ^
Again I will ask for the all the heck Borges has received for potential lack of development in Denard's last year with him and Devin this year, why are so many so content that if Borges wants ABC player, it is the right player? It is taking a big leap of faith.
This is a very curious offer...he is not a player pursued by other like minded programs and assomeone else said even USC seems to be cooling on him. My worry is even if 2014 fails and Borges goes, Borges imprint is going to be in this program for the better part of another half decade based on his apparent near sole control over which QB should be offered.
As an aside, I really dislike the "school" Canteen, Sills and Watson go to. If OSU was recruiting these 3 the "tsk tsk" and "cluck cluck" on this board would be in overdrive on how they are recruiting heavily for a school that appears to be barely a school.
December 6th, 2013 at 7:03 PM ^
Yeah but ultimately we have to recruit there because every other school recruits at similar institutions. So we'll be at a disadvantage if we don't recruit there.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:00 PM ^
Michigan isn't every other school!

December 7th, 2013 at 9:31 AM ^
Every offer is taking a big leap of faith. Especially quarterbacks. You haven't yet seen what a Borges-recruited quarterback can do throughout his career.
It honestly seems like every post I see from you involves bitching about Al Borges. I'm sure that's not the case - and I don't care enough to actually research it - but it's getting old quickly.
December 7th, 2013 at 2:08 PM ^
Does Al Borges recruit quarterbacks? Or does he sit in a darkened film room and work on offensive game plans?
With David Sills, I gather that it is Brady Hoke who is in California, extending an offer to Sills and doing other recruiting.
Has Al Borges personally recruited a quarterback since he's been at Michigan?
December 8th, 2013 at 10:07 AM ^
From the way it seems, Borges sends out Hecklinski to watch quarterbacks throw/work out. Borges doesn't do much in-person recruiting, but I imagine he's the main "decider" when it comes down to sending out offers.
