Comcast Update

Submitted by Maize and Luke on

This is an update regarding the agreement, or lack thereof, between Comcast and the BTN.  This letter is directly from a Comcast employee.  Looks like typical negotiating and posturing to me.  Stay tuned.  Forgive me if I have done this incorrectly.

Screw Comcast. They provide horrible service.

My comment has nothing to do with who is right or wrong here, just a general observation that Comcast is the worst.

I'll be honest, at least up here, Charter has been great. Their no-contract policy allows me to cancel service whenever I don't want to pay for it. The last time I did so they allowed me to reconnect at zero extra cost. They're completely up-front about when I am and am not eligible for discounts. The internet is quite good.

Im a cable skeptic but they've won my business and loyalty. Very little more that I could ask for.

Century Link is terrible.  I left DirecTV a while ago because CL was the only ISP in my area.  Had to go to Comcast because my Internet was basically unusable.  And of course, Comcast makes it pointless to not bundle their services.  I couldn't just get internet from them.  I've recently cut the cord (from Cox) and now have DirecTV Now and couldn't be happier.

The sad thing is that after moving out of Ann Arbor (where I had Comcast), I’ve had two subsequent providers, and each one has been worse than the one before (i.e. Comcast was the best of the three). It’s amazing that despite the advances in the technology since I was a kid (HD, DVR, etc.), the level of service and the value provided by really any of the providers is so pitifully low.

The level of service almost always depends on competition in the area. Time Warner used to bury it in me when they were my only choice. Google started digging, ATT started digging faster and magically Time Warner had new and improved speeds and amazing deals to offer me. Telling them to fuck right off was a great day.

I call BS on this being a real letter. If this were real, there would a full section telling employees not to discuss an on-going negotiation publicly and to refer any questions to the corporate communications office. They also would not have promised further updates as it progresses.

If this is a public communications ploy, then it shows how week of a position Comcast is really in.

Honestly I think charter is the best.  Although i just signed up for the at&t fiber and it's working awesome so far. just not-so-patiently waiting for google fiber to be everywhere.

Logged in just to echo comments that Comcast is the worst business in history. I had to hear “did you restart the router” dozens of times when calling about my internet/cable outage. Never again!

I would cringe if I had to call Directv customer service.  I knew I would get a dipshit on the phone from Pakistan or some other country on the other side or the world and would be on the phone for at least an hour.  I would get the same shit like unplug the tv, unplug the router, go outside and look at the dish...blah blah blah.  Painful!

I moved from Ann Arbor to Chicagoland and had Comcast in both locations. For the first year after the move, I had a terrible time with the TV, with multiple visits from technicians trying to fix our weak signal before they finally realized that the box was the problem and gave us a different one.

The worst part of the process was calling customer service for an unusual reason. The first thing you do is enter your phone number, it turns out your area code routes you to the appropriate call center. Since I still had my 734 number, I got routed to a call center for Ann Arbor, who was pretty useful right up until they realized my address was not in their region. I was then transferred to the worst call center ever, who I could barely hear (not understand—just hear) and who could never understand me, not to mention being generally incompetent with fixing problems. Eventually the Ann Arbor call center clued me in to why I kept getting transferred and told me to just put in a fake number with a Chicago area code at the first prompt. So that solved the rerouting problem—of course it just meant that I went quickly to the terrible service.

Can I see a show of hands? How many people are actually fearful that the 2018 football season is going to start without BTN on Comcast?

This number should be 0 (zero) people, yet I keep seeing these concerned posts. Trying to work through the confusion. Thanks for your assistance.

Thank god i have charter spectrum. I would be ditching them if they did this. Im close to ditching them now but I like the DVR service and really im just kind of lazy. There are other offerings out there. Youtube and playstation have packages that include BTN i think.

Yeah but it doesn’t pay off, at least not in my experience. We had comcast tv and internet for about $120, turned tv off and tried YouTubeTV for a month ( free trial), only to see concast jack up our internet price to $90, add to it the $35 monthly subscription to YOuTubeTV and it was going to be more expensive for less channels. I have two kids and the Xfinity on demand selection is great I have to admit.their customer service can improve  but same can be said for all other tv/internet providers.

They have already carried out the decision to remove BTN from non-B1G markets.  Maybe they come to an agreement to continue to carry BTN; however, I doubt it will bring it back to non B1G markets. That sucks

Several years ago I called Comcast due to an outage.  The customer service rep proceeded to tell me that he panned out and the entire neighborhood was without service.  My services were not working the next day so I called back only to be told by the next customer service rep that they do not have the ability to pan out and see outages on their computer system.  At that point, I could just imagine the first rep laughing his ass off as he is telling me he is panning out. Turns out that my service was just disconnected the day prior when my neighbors service was installed.

I've lived in Fort Myers, Fl in a condo...have been here 12 years with Comcast...to be honest the service when needed (hardly ever) has been great..We have a service store near by to make exchanges..We just had our BOD sign a contract with Hotwire and the HOA has voted to resended that contract and keep Comcast...People here are very happy with Comcast...Plus if you have an IPhone you can really save through comcast and use Verizon's Network....Our community has 741 Doors (condo/houses)

I was really happy with Comcast actually, thought the X1 and the improvements over the last couple years were great. But just too damn expensive, so I just cut the cord and went with Sling, saving like $150/month

My Comcast internet service was becoming slow in March.  About that time I got an email from them offering an upgraded modem/router shipped to the house for self-install, so I thought I'd try it to see if it may help.  Hooked it up, had to call a 3-4 times to try to get it working correctly, literally went back to reconnecting the old equipment, back to the new, etc.  Each call takes an hour at least.  Got it working but it still was slow.  Very frustrating process.  So they had to send out a technician.  They mentioned a $50 charge (I think it was) if they found that I installed it incorrectly, depending on what the tech discovers.  I said no way, that isn't the problem, it's pretty easy to hook up.

Tech arrives, never had to touch the equipment inside.  He said that squirrels had chewed on the outdoor cable in several places, so he replaced the entire length of cable from the pole to house, took like 2-3 hrs and did a fine job.  Now it works great, blazing fast.

Of course, the $50 charge appeared on my bill anyway, so I had to call them again for like the 6th time and they finally removed the fee.  I complained a lot and asked for...ya know...like how about something for my troubles and crappy service/performance.  Asked for free MLB but they would only give 3 free months of Showtime.  Big whoop.  My bill is $240/mo for the Triple Play.  I think I am going to switch to WOW soon.

TL; DR = Comcast can eat a bag of dicks

My biggest problem with the cable services are when i call I get someone on the phone from Pakistan that cannot speak English.  It takes me 10 minutes just for them to understand what the problem is before they proceed into action.

My Comcast is currently down in Ypsilanti. And to top it off, my electricity has been out for three hours! Who would think both services would not be working at the same time?!?
