Colorado State Snowflakes - The Enemy

Submitted by dragonchild on September 3rd, 2022 at 4:38 PM

This is a thread for hot takes regarding Colorado State. Were they better than you thought? Worse?

I felt MGoBlog nailed their preview of CSU’s offense. . . very WCO, very not there yet.

Disclaimer: This is not an official snowflakes thread, but I feel it’s complementary.

I left at halftime. Got a call that my beloved pet passed away. Called him Freddy but his full name was Friedrich Nietzsche Jr. He was an Eastern Gray Squirrel with a melanistic pigment which made him entirely black. His favorite kind of nut was the acorn that dropped from my Northern Red Oak, which I believe has reached an age in which it is preparing to pass into the afterlife. It's dropped fewer and fewer acorns in the last several years and I believe that its spirit has moved on.

I guess I need to ask - would there be interest in an "Opponent Assessment" thread for this collection of threads? Not that I want to clutter the board too much (I know some of you don't like these threads anyway), but I am just asking at this point. I am honestly intrigued by the idea. Perhaps not every week, but especially for conference games.

Well I for one want to hear what people might have to say about how our opponents did, but to be honest there doesn’t seem to be much interest.

You’ll notice the replies consist of maybe half a take, a digression on our defense, and then sarcasm. There might not be much to say about CSU, but this thread is objectively a dud.

I was behind two CSU player parents in a concession line. They did not have good things to say about Addazio. They also mentioned Atteberry and Gentry since they are both from Colorado and made a comment about how CSU didn't bother to recruit either one because they had bigger aspirations in their choice of school.

Ft. Collins remains an excellent college town IMO.

I expected CSU to hit more of those underneath routes that they only got maybe 3 or 4 of today. It’ll be interesting to see if we took a lot of stuff away from them in the UFR. Otherwise it was roughly what I thought if Id expected the D line to be that dominant

I actually think CSU looked a lot better than a 51-7 team. They didn't show anything that translates to the stat line, but if they all learn to play together, they could be a solid, if not too spectacular, team. Their QB made some good choices, although he did help our sack total by not taking an outlet pass once or twice. Their defense stood their ground, though they clearly lack the speed and athleticism to keep up with our offense. They didn't do anything spectacular, but they could get closer to being a good team in a few weeks. I was actually surprised as I watched their team efforts against Olu and Mazi in the first quarter and they performed adequately well. Mazi was nonexistent and couldn't get much push, until the one time when he broke them (i think in the second quarter) and then he and the line just took the game over. Olu seemed to be whiffing (perhaps this was by design, as he is incredibly athletic for his size) and at least for a few plays in the early going, he was searching for someone to block in the second level. I didn't see any major bust of note, but it seemed like they knew enough to double up and stuff Mazi and then to try to make Olu look for something other than a straight ahead block. Both of those are probably good strategies. Frustrate our bigs in the middle and see who else comes at you.

Trajectories can change in a moment during a grueling college football season, but they didn't lack for individual effort. They just need to better complement one another and, for the most part, be confident during their conference slate.
