Game Day Weather

Alright, who PO'd Mother Nature?! We've had warm games, comfy games, and chilly games - this is going to be one that is downright COLD. Break out the winter gear, particularly if you're going to be tailgating, and get ready to cheer loudly for our guys! A low pressure system moving across the region this weekend will bring scattered, light accumulating snow to the area Saturday afternoon and evening, and then again Sunday. Overall totals look to be between 1-3", not a lot, but it'll be enough to make roads a bit slick. It's Senior Day and Charles Woodson will be recognized, so grab the scarf & gloves and fire up! Let's go blue!!

Tailgating

If you're an early bird you might catch a little sun early in the morning before clouds take over. It's going to be a frosty start to the day with temps only in the lower 20s! Maybe set up the tent with the little portable heater - and definitely assign everyone all of the warm, comfort food crockpot dishes! Oatmeal bar anyone? At least you won't have to worry about your brewski getting warm or the cooler ice melting! Winds will be generally light early in the morning before picking up to around 5mph mid to late morning - just enough to rustle the last leaves on the trees, adding a little extra chill to the air. Don't miss the flyover - it's four Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 180th Fighter Wing's 112th Fighter Squadron, called the Stingers. There's also going to be a dj at the stadium so you can dance your way in through the gates!

Kickoff

33 and cloudy for the kickoff! We should have low 40s this time of year! :( A light breeze out of the S will keep it feeling like the mid 20s, so hopefully you wore the hat, mittens, warm boots, etc. This will be a great game to use those little hand warmers, too! Michigan football alumni will line the tunnel as the players run out toward the banner!

Halftime

Anyone else getting the big hot chocolate? Brrr! We're staying in the low 30s for the half and the rest of the game with wind chills hanging out in the mid 20s range. Winds will be out of the SSE around 5-7mph. This might be the one time you're ok waiting in line for the restrooms for a minute because you can thaw out a bit lol. We'll be cloudy and during the second half we could see some snow start to fall.

Post-Game

Are you cold? Of course not - you're amped because we just won the game!! If we keep saying it, it's more likely to happen right?! :) Scattered snow showers for the rest of the afternoon and evening - with an inch or two possible by the late-night. It'll be just enough that if you're headed out to dinner, you'll want to give yourself a little extra time to get home as roads could get dicey. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s for the evening, staying there overnight. Winds will turn light and variable, so if you'll be out until the light switch is flipped, it'll actually feel close to the temp. Even still, maybe call the friend with the heated seats for that ride home :) Stay safe out there and let's really turn up the volume Saturday! No matter your seat, be * loud * ! LET'S GOOOOO!!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!

It's really as it should be.  It's a little colder than normal but still late November in the Great Lakes.

I'll be at the other game in the state tomorrow - better chance of snow up there (given it's a later game) but I'm looking forward to it.  Been awhile since I've been at a snow game.

Tip from going to lots of cold weather games at Lambeau. Bring cardboard or a carpet square for under your feet. Anything that keeps your boots off the cold concrete will mean your feet don't get quite as cold (they're still going to get cold). Also, toe and hand warmers, obviously.

Thanks, Ms. Weather, for forecasting conditions for this game, and through the season.

Any inside connections with Mother Nature? Maybe pull a few strings to get slightly warmer weather?

I also posted this in the thread discussing Vegas odds for The Game are changing:

BTW, the latest NWS Forecast (0650 EST) is predicting snow to start falling at Detroit Metropolitan Airport at 1500 EST. The trough that will be producing this snow, edging out the impact of a High Pressure center moving to the NE and out of MI, is arriving from WSW to ENE. It would not surprise me that we'll see some flakes with no accumulation around the middle to the end of the 3rd quarter.

Be mindful that the biggest impact on this game is the cold temperatures mostly in the low 30s. That it is mostly below freezing would dictate light and dry snow flurries instead of the wet stuff.

Surfaces are still warm and light accumulation on the roads will melt and then freeze as temps drop post game. Driving could be messy.

Requesting our actual forecaster to put her 2 cents in on this.
