Trash Talking at the End
Does anyone know what was going on at the end between Morris and Lucas (and possibly others)? Was it just a culmination of trash talking throughout the game or did something else go down?
I'm usually a big fan of being a good sport and keeping your mouth shut, but part of me loves that they put MSU in their place. I think it can help with the mental aspect of things, and get in the other teams' head. Very cathartic.
MSU was never ahead in the game. Morgan scored first to make it 2-0, Green hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 2-1, and Michigan went on big from there. I guess this strengthens your argument...?
I have no problem with Morris telling Lucas to GTFO. Morris earned the right to talk shit and good for him for giving it right back to Lucas. If Kalin can't take the heat, he should stay out of the kitchen.
Little brother can't handle defeat
Get the f**** off my court. Love it!
I see T-Shirts.......lots and lots of T-Shirts.
GET THE F*CK OFF MY COURT!
Our team now has a tagline. Love it.
Lots of tshirts from this one...
Who cares! D-Mo had the right to tell that smiling little gremilin to get the f*ck off his court! Thats the way it should be. Put your sportsmanship talks in your pocket! This MvsMSU! Suck it Sparty!

you can sure say that again..
Chuck Woodson trash talkin the Buckeyes. I was waiting tables at Carrabba's in Macon, GA back then...totally spent to much time that afternoon ignoring my tables and shouting at the TV in the bar. Great Memories.
David Boston was more of a trash talker than Woodson. Then again, Woodson beat Boston head-to-head and continues to perform well in the pros, so there's that.
Maybe he should be suspended.
Eff any talk like that. It's college sports. Trash is talked all the time.
I actually love this. We are finally getting some swagger back and showing that we aren't going to be pushed around any more. I would be totally against it if we had lost, but I think some are making a little too much out of it.
I saw that as well and was a little annoyed but realized that this is a rivalry game and both sides jaw quite a bit. Sure, you kind of wish that Morris had just scored his points and then celebrated with his team, but who knows what Lucas was saying. That isn't Morris's game, so I think this was an abberation brought on by sweeping the Spartans for the first time in over a decade. I'm sure Beilein gave him an earful, though, when they got back into the lockerroom.
Really? I think Morris talks quite a bit of shit on a regular basis. I like it, but just sayin.
Izzo bitches at the refs after every whistle. He should get the fuck off our court too.
Aw, are sparty's mad because of trash talk.
I really can't care. We sweeped our rival. Our team has an edge for once. MSU has been talking to us like that for years and its because they have had an edge, they knew they could. Now we have the edge. For the rest of the year you are our bitch. I say fuck em. This was a long time coming. I'm glad Morris has a little Fab5 in him.
Hard Edge.
Um, maybe Darius really wanted him to get the fuck off of his court. I think that's probably it.
My text response to my Sparty friends was simply "Wow, that must be really embarrassing for you..."
Pride comes before the fall.
Remember this thread the next time someone talks about how much "classier" we are than our rivals. Everybody talks shit, everybody murders, etc.
In back and forth trash talk is really equivalent. But considering it's against the guy who's team ran up the score by 50, and guaranteed victory this week, I think what Morris did is pretty minor on the "classless" scale.
I just get irritated at fans in general when they pretend the other side is a bunch of hooligans while claiming our guys are warrior poets who exemplify the best of humanity.
I think every sizable fan base has a lot of tools, personally. The worst always seem to be 30-somethings who didn't attend any university, much less the one they cheer for.
That said, the worst I've ever seen was an OSU fan in San Diego at a 24 Hour Fitness. Guy was wearing a "Fuck Michigan" t-shirt--not a super-clever "Muck Fichigan" or some variant thereof. I think it's bad to wear something like that under a coat in your house on gameday, but in public 2000 miles from Columbus? Yikes.
But if anyone's doing that, it's MSU fans now. I don't think anyone has any problems with most MSU basketball players. The one's not accused of rape at least. But in general. Just saying I'm guessing Morris's comment wasn't the first word of the night; just the last. Trash talk from a college kid? Meh. Good bulletin board, but pretty small in the rank of things. Lots of great, cocky players. Fab Five, Woodson, Harbaugh, Braylon, Hart. Just back it up. Trash talk from a coach, AD...you know, an adult? That's classless. I like a little edge in my players on the field of play. If you can't turn it off in normal life, then there will be problems.
I should clarify. My friends and I talk trash all the time playing sports. I get irritated when people act like others are classless jerks for doing what everyone does playing with their friends. There is a line not to cross, and I doubt anything said today was too bad, but if some Sparty said the same thing to Hardaway or something like that, everyone here would be going nuts.
Given what was said, i really can't see too many people getting that bent out of shape about it even if the tables were turned. Athletes trash talk. "Get the fuck off my court" seems like it is well within in bounds of normal jawing. If he went after the guy's family, or made a religious/racial/ethnic slur than I would probably feel differently. "Get the fuck off my court/off our field/off our ice/off my track/out of our house/out of our bowling alley/out of our chest club" is the kind of stuff that happens routinely. (OK, maybe not the last one - but those smart little bastards are still thinking it.)
But what Izzo said after the game (and supposed AD tweets) were just as bad or worse, and while commented on, I don't see a meltdown over it. But it might be different if we had lost.
I'm pretty sure Gary Moeller and Jerry Hanlon were taunting Izzo with 'down in front' chants, too. It's our house. Screw Sparty.
Hanlon and Moeller were sitting together, about three seats (I'm not kidding) from Izzo. Courtside front row. I've never seen any of our football guys sitting over there before.
I am with you on that, not to mention all the times they mispoke, said the wrong player's name and were talking about the wrong team. Awful broadcast.
I hit "mute" whenever they started fawning. It's a habit I picked up after Tim Doyle started talking about butterflies during his broadcasts. I also held up my hand so I didn't have to look at Tom Izzo; which, unfortunately, happened a lot.
I'm sure Woodson and David Boston were saying worse things to each other.
Or punching each other
“...(Morris) going for a layup with 2 seconds left and talking a lot stuff all game, including at our place, maybe he (Morris) deserved it.” ~ Tom Izzo
Did Izzo glean his Code of Conduct from the same poorly-attended Big Ten conference retreat at which Joe Tiller learned of the "gentleman's agreement" that coaches can call dibs on a football recruit?

There is really only one response for all of this: Score. Board.
I'm betting Tom still regrets not jumping to the NBA this past offseason.
To coach the Cleveland Cavaliers sans LeBron James? They're the worst in the league and they had a 26-game losing streak this season. The Cavs will be in rebuilding mode for the next few years.
“I’ll straighten that (Lucas throwing the ball at Morris) out but at the same time, (Morris) going for a layup with 2 seconds left and talking a lot stuff all game, including at our place, maybe he (Morris) deserved it.” – Tom Izzo

after watching the embedded video in this link, all I have to say is EFFFFFF IZZO. I have huge respect for that dude, but damn...going for a layup with 2 seconds left? he's miffed about that? eff off.
Huh, I haven't heard a lot of Izzo over the years, but I guess his reputation as a classy guy precedes him. He comes off as a smarmy prick in this video, following a loss or not.
He often gets petty after a loss. (Losses to Wisconsin really get under his skin, too.) Winning has made him bulletproof in the media.
"Maybe he deserved it?" For what, winning the game? Outplaying your star senior? Possibly knocking you out of the tourney (the first time ever for a preseason #2)? Maybe Izzo has been hanging out with Dantonio too much. That little leprechaun can complain about us as he watches our tourney game from his hotel room near MSG.
While MSU fans have been classy enough to congratulate us in January for our 'September Heismans,' I think we can all congratulate MSU on their December Final Four/National Championship
Yeah, that quote struck me as petty given just how much spit MSU has talked in the past. They are two competitive kids who have been going at each other all game, and Morris got the last laugh. Does Tom honestly think that Lucas wouldn't have done the same thing if the tables were turned? I remember them talking quite a bit of smack last year after that last-second win.
Like a guaranteed victory? STFU. Last second baskets? See the video link about? At least we weren't up 50 when it happened. STFU.
