Making fun of the handicapped in a public forum is about as low as it gets.  Out of the however-many-thousand people who read mgb, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of us who have relatives or acquantences afflicted by various handicaps.

Is it really that difficult to summon the creativity to get one's point across without stooping to that level?

Actually, looking at the photo, it is special needs, and not disabled or handicapped. My dear wife works in such a school, and at least in the Chicago area, it is "special needs."

And regarding disabled, sometimes that is now changed into "differently abled."

Whatever. Agree that photo is in poor taste.

Well, hopefully not true, but we do have to expect some guys to fall by the wayside. Even Hoke said there would be. Besides, with a class of only 15 graduating seniors, everyone was expecting at least 5 players to leave so we could sign at least 20 in this class.

This could not be...

About a friend in another sport.

About a friend at another school.

About some friend somewhere saying he or she is feeling like they might like to leave.

A musing on early enrollees leaving from last season.

Some other not readily understood explanation.

Nope. It couldn't be ANY of those things. Must be panic mode time. HOLY SHIT OUR ENTIRE 2011 CLASS IS LEAVING!

his latest tweet "Why are people sleeping on Rick Ross"

It probably has something with people sleeping on the rapper known as Rick Ross, though it may have a deeper meaning. Anyone care to discuss or analyze?

The most logical explanation, that the only early enrollee Koger is spending time around currently (Greg Brown) is considering leaving.....  it's twitter speculation but how many times did players or recruits tweet something during recruiting that was speculated on on this site.  I don't see why it's a big deal to question it....  I don't think anyone is freaking out.  It's one recruit.  That said I hope Greg sticks around.  Freshman year is tough.  Let alone enrolling early.  I think you are overreacting never got the feeling this was a panic mode post.

The tweet was referring to me. I went to the golf dome, I was preparing for the links, and I even went so far as to take private lessons. Despite my early season efforts, I threw in the towel after four consecutive snap hooks. Koger told me to weaken my grip and open up my stance, but instead i threw my sticks into the Huron. Sorry to disappoint. Eff golf.

we don't post crap like this, by the way, is because single, unverified, unconfirmed tweets have a way of being ... wrong.

"Hey you guys! Tate is transfering! Seriously!"

Assessing where you stand is a natural, and appropriate reaction when there is a coaching change,  It doesn't reflect badly on either the student or the new coaching staff.  The new staff does the kid a favor by telling him where he stands, as tough as that may be at the time.  Then the kid can make an informed decision.  I don't know if that applies w/r/t Brown, but then it becomes his decision.  Better now then a couple of years later

Thought it was a little weird in Hoke's press conference when Brown was brought up. Hoke was extremely brief in talking about him. He had more to say about some of the recruits he had met once.

Possibly/probably related: Sam Webb said this morning in the Recruiting Roundup that a DB has left, allowing room for an offer to Terry Richardson, but that he is letting the kid announce it for himself. He also said the coaches and the kid's family tried to convince him to stay but to no avail.

I'd post the link to the podcast, but it's not up yet.

Hell, for all we know he could have been talking about Austin White who left the program before the season started last year. Don't get too caught up in tweets from college students. If he is talking about Brown and he is gone, best of luck to him.

  1. Read an fairly clear tweet from a player on the team regarding a player quitting the team.
  2. Silent, short-lived panic.
  3. Conjure up alternative explanations.
  4. Post alternative explanations; make fun of others for speculating about attrition from a tweet that COULD MEAN ANYTHING REALLY, ignoring reality at every turn.
  5. Allow for reality to set in.  Player transfers.
  6. Post "Those who stay...."
  7. Post about how deep the depth chart is at his position and mock his HS film/on-field product.
