New rule for NCAA basketball
The NCAA has just announced a rule change for Mens Basketball to be instituted immediately.
If your team is called Ohio State, MUGGING the opponent will not result in a foul.
If your team is called Michigan, a gentle graze of anywhere north of his shoulder blades is good for a trip to the line.
February 3rd, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
actually the announced it at the start of the second half.
February 3rd, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
Michigan didn't deserve to win this regardless, make a layup...
February 3rd, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
It's kinda hard to make a layup when you're getting fucking mugged.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:08 PM ^
maybe on some, but morris missed a few easy layups after making some nice moves to get to the basket
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
That was honestly only like two missed layups though. That OSU freshman was reaching in every time Morris got the ball and didn't get called a single time.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
He is michigan's daddy, son. It's called playing defense. I know you dont know what that is, since you've never seen it from your own team. Stop crying about the refs.
February 4th, 2011 at 5:27 AM ^
If Metrics were to try that shit he'd have been fouled out at the half. They call him for everything.
February 3rd, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
i missed the entire 2nd half. the glare from thad's head broke my tv.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
his dirty penis nose
February 3rd, 2011 at 8:58 PM ^
holy crap, i managed a double post a minute apart.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
The game wasn't enough against our fanbase.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
It's very telling that tUoOS plays basketball in a place named after a discount furniture store.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife, an' hide yo' husban', 'cause Ohio State be rapin' e'rybody out there.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
Cheating ass Thad Motta just had the Buckeyes to say that "What they're doing to him (Sullinger) down low is ridiculous". Is he joking! Who was it that I saw arm bar Smotrycz, oh wait Sullinger. This game just made my tOSU hatred meter peek.
February 3rd, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
*What* was Motta talking about there? There was absolutely zero excessive roughness against Sullinger. And he's a freakin' beast and *creates* all sorts of contact. It's actually a little bit like watching Shaq play: he's constantly slamming into defenders to create space and pretty much never gets called for it.
Weird, petulant moment from Motta, particularly in victory after *his* team played kinda crappy.

I could find that peeking Rosenberg .gif...

"The only crimes I’m guilty of are murdering the confidence of my teammates and raping their zone defense everyday in practice with my silky smooth jumpshot. But I don’t think I can even be prosecuted for that in the state of Ohio."

This sucks. At least we beat the spread.
On to actual analysis...if Novak actually made threes and the refs managed to pay attention to the game, we had a chance in the second half. But we're not NC contenders and RAWR VALUCITY ARENA, so there.
February 3rd, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
Novak only took 3 threes and made 1. Stu Douglass had a brutal shooting night, going 3-12 and Morris start 6-8 but missed his last 5.
But OSU won the game at the free throw line where thet outscored UM by 14.
February 4th, 2011 at 5:29 AM ^
When did the refs pay attention again? I must have missed that part.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
to 4.......
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
Let's face it. It's good for the Big Ten to have the #1 team in the country. And a rag-tag bunch of no-nothing recruits, white kids and relatives of famous players beating said #1 team is NOT good for business. There was no WAY the refs don't know that and they will do everything in their power to get the outcome the Big Ten needs.
Follow the money. As the late great Tony Soprano once said "shit flows downstream....money flows up"
February 3rd, 2011 at 11:52 PM ^
I wouldn't go full-blown conspiracy theory on this; Referees almost always favor the home team, and they almost always favor the higher-ranked team (as sort of a confirmation bias thing), and Ohio State does have the personnel that is conducive for drawing large amounts of fouls (seriously, who can stop Sullenger without fouling?). Michigan hasn't been great at drawing fouls and attacking the rim well this season, and Ohio State has, plus OSU really stresses not giving up fouls. It's not a conspiracy, it's just a perfect combination of a home-court advantage, a predisposition to giving the better team the benefit of the doubt in split-second decisions, and inherent advantages that OSU has and Michigan does not. It's definitely not right that there are biases in refereeing, but seriously, people are human. The refs have no stake in how much attention the B1G gets, and the outcome that the B1G needs and the outcome that the refs need (a game without controversy) are never mutually inclusive.
February 4th, 2011 at 12:19 AM ^
But Michigan shot 7 free throws at home to OSU's 25. Michigan averages 13.8 fta per game, and against OSU they shot 11 in TWO GAMES. OSU, on the other hand, averages 20.21 fta per game. Against Michigan they shot 50 total free throws. While the difference compared to OSU's average isn't that big, taking both disparities into consideration adds (hypothetically) 21.39 free points to OSU's overall score, or 10.695 ppg. That's not even getting into the lack of playing time for Michigan's starters due to foul trouble against OSU.
February 4th, 2011 at 3:30 PM ^
Admittedly the name on the front and on the back of the jersey means more than if you're the team wearing white or not.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
This would've been a completely different game had our guys been able to stay aggressive and not get called for a (weak) foul on every fucking play.
<-- still fuming over OSU's band playing "I can't turn you Loose"
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
You got a bigger version of that? I can't read it
lols
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
I made this halfway during last year's basketball season. It reads:
FRUSTRATION
Hey, at least we're still #1 in that.
February 4th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
Why are you fuming about The Best Damn Band In The Land playing a Blues Brothers song?
February 4th, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
and music major, I can assure you that they are not, in fact, the best damn band in the land. Sorry.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
This was the refs watching Sullinger today...
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
So you probably didn't like Matta complaining to ESPN about Sullinger getting fouled all the time in the post game interview.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
He did what???? I was watching on espn360 from the office. Is that serious? He complained about a lack of calls? 25 FT's to 4 and Matta is complaining? Fuck him. Hate that guy.
February 3rd, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
This game was so frustrating in the 2nd half. Props to Beilein for not cussing the official out and getting T'd up after watching some of those "calls" and no-calls...we'll get there eventually boys...just keep on fighting!
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:08 PM ^
I say we resolve this like we did in 1835.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
So we should wander around aimlessly in the woods and then steal some more of Wisconsin?
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:14 PM ^
I can think of a better suggestion right now. That actually sounds pretty good.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
As long as there's good booze...
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
They were bad, but they weren't THAT bad. The FT discrepency is about style of play. D-Mo, Morgan, and Stu missed way too many lay-ups.
OSU got much better calls in Crisler. It's still stupid for Matta to call out the refs at the end. F him.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
yet OSU shot FT more than Michigan.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
I can't wait until the hammer gets dropped on the Buckeye basketball and football programs. They are the media darlings of the last 9-10 years, so I don't expect it soon....
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
........but their basketball team, particularly with Matta at the helm, has done some serious recruiting that just seems a little off for a school that doesn't have a real history of having a good program.
Some of that may be the lull that IU has had since Knight, or even Kentucky(although they seem to be bouncing back a little now). Some of it may be that they finally found a coach who can recruit well. There does seem to be something fishy going on though with their program compared to it's history.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
Matta is dirty. It isn't a secret. OSU plays the payment game with associates of recruits (friends, family members, coaches, etc.) where they pay in small drops along the path. Want the kid to open your letter? That'll be $1000. Want him to take a visit? $2000. And so it goes. Unfortunately, this is the way to land most of the top 20 players. My source (cause I know you'll ask) is another Big Ten coach who has been asked but refuses to pay the same amounts.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
And it really sucks that basketball has become more of a money proposition to kids than any other sport. I sincerely hope that Beilein doesn't go anywhere near that stuff, even if it costs us top recruits.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
He doesn't.
Beilein and his staff are very clear that they don't play that game and will not.
