Brent "Thunder" Petway
Took my son to see the Globetrotters today and was pleasantly surprised to see him starting. Man can that guy fly! He really has found his niche - he practically stole the show with all kinds of dunks, and seemed to enjoy acting like a goof with the other guys. Its not the NBA, but a perfect gig for a flyer like him.

That might be the best haircut I have ever seen.

The greatest haircut I have ever seen.

I'm partial to the haircut belonging to a certain someone pictured below:

I miss the swagger he brought to the court. Also, he was a tremendous athlete and a pretty good rebounder. I remember watching him in the college dunk contest.

Best part was when he pulled that one out, the TV crew said Petway told them his "number one girlfriend" shaved it into his head.
A man of many haircuts, and many other things.

Still the same timeless entertainment...I remember 'Curly' when I was a kid...

Professor Curly Joe?

Watched Globetrotters on ESPN2 a few weeks back. Was so entertained, I checked on tickets for their next visit to Portland. Good wholesome fun.

It's good to see that he's having a lot of fun doing what he loves. I don't think anyone can rival his amazing winged haircut.. that was pretty damn epic. good for him

Globetrotters made a stop at Terre Haute,IN where I live and go to school. Anyways I work at Applebee's as a server and was told that they came into the Bee's to eat after their game that night. Though I wasn't there working that night (wish I was, so I could meet a former Wolverine) I was told that the server that served them that night only recieved a dollar or less from each of the players. Kind of sad.
So, now I have a question... what kind of money do these guys make?
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:27 PM ^
but not MUCH more. And they're on the road ALL the time.

According to THIS article which is a little over 3 years old, their salaries range from $60,000 to $500K a year.

... an NBA D-league team. the average D-league player makes between 250-400 thousand a season. Unless your hasheem thabeet, oh snap.

The name Hasheem Thabeet still makes me angry. I was at Pitt in 08-09 when he shared Big East POY with Dejaun Blair about two weeks after Blair dominated him on his own court. Then Thabeet goes #2 overall and Blair doesn't get the same love.
Not saying it's Thabeet's fault, I'd love to be in his position.

I negged you because you completely pulled that figure out of your ass. D-League players don't make shit. They make 20K-50K (very few make that much) a year, get government rate per diem, and ride on buses all around the country.
The only players that make more than that are NBA 1st and 2nd year players that are on to some d-league teams from their NBA teams to help them develop. Those players are paid by the NBA, not the d-league.
I only know this because I'm an NBA fanatic. I'm just annoyed by misinformation.

Ditto. I hate it when people just throw out numbers - especially when it has to do with how much money someone makes - and then judges a person based on that false state.

I live in Sullivan 20 miles south of you, good to know Michigan is well represented in the Wabash Valley.

And in Indianapolis! Spent much time flying in Terre Haute and Sullivan to know I dont want to ever go back there!
January 24th, 2011 at 8:44 AM ^
Haha! I wouldn't ever recommend this place for anyone to visit.
January 25th, 2011 at 8:46 AM ^
Yeah it's not much of a tourist attraction unless you're a hunter(I am), but it's home. I wouldn't want to live in very many other places.

Good for Petway. Always an uber-athletic kid, nice to still see him playing.

That's really cool - I didn't know he was with the Globetrotters. Damn I haven't seen them in a long time - have to see when they'll be near me.
January 24th, 2011 at 9:26 AM ^
Best case scenario for the guy in my opinion. Better Globetrotter: Brent Petway or Bacari Alexander?
January 24th, 2011 at 9:52 AM ^
Had no idea who he was, just saw a commotion. Headed over to try to calm things down, and here I was, staring up at this HUGE guy with a big grin saying he was just looking to have a good time. He was an awesome guy to little freshman-year me. I'm glad to see him doing something he loves
January 24th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
Sometimes the other teams would even stop and watch him dunk
