OT: Woodson Vs. Woodley: Who do ya got??

Submitted by Dilla Dude on

Two of Michigan's finest are going head-to-head in Superbowl XLV on February 6, 2011. Question is, who do ya got??

Or...

I love Woodley but:

  • Woodson went 3-0 versus the Buckeyes and Woodley did not do so well.
  • Woodson is still the only defensive player to win a Heisman trophy.
  • Woodson and crew brought home the NC in 97 and Woodley and his crew couldn't finish the job in 06.
  • Woodley already won with the Steelers in 08.

Also, if Woodson helps the Packers win this Super Bowl then his Hall of Fame resume will be that much stronger.  Having two former Wolverines get in with Brady and Woodson would be GREAT and bode well for the Michigan lore.  "Go Pack Go!"

in his first game against OSU in 1995, as a true freshman, Woodson shut down senior and Biletnikof winner Terry Glenn and got 2 picks, one of them in the final minute when OSU had driven to our 34 yd line.  Epic.

In comparison, Woodley's helmet-shot on Troy Smith in 2006 (on an incomplete 3rd and long, no less) cost us the biggest OSU game in school history.  Not that Woodley wasn't a great Wolverine, etc., but...

Against OSU Woodson gave us all more endorphin rushes than any Michigan player I can think of (Desmond Howard and John Kolesar would be up there).  Tom Harmon still has the best individual performance by a Michigan player against OSU, but I'm not sure what he did against the Bucks apart from the 1940 game.

wouldn't it be cool if Charles could somehow repeat the the feat of our last Heisman wiinner to play in the superbowl for the packers and win the MVP award??

But I'll root for Woodson. I always go for the most high profile Muchigan guy, who may help us in recruiting and such. Thus, Brady first (damn I want him to win at least 1 or 2 more so we can say to recruits "hey, we had the greatest QB of all time....). And a pick 6 for the win from one of the few Heisman/National Champ guys seems like the road to recruits, with a possible SB MVP (our 3rd guy). Though if Woodley can pull it for with 4 sacks and a fumble return for a TD, I'm down with that. That, and I want to drive Tennessee people nuts with Woodson doing as well in SBs as Manning. But we were guaranteed a guy would get a ring before today even started, so we were good to go. (OK, if Todd Collins could have lead the Bears to a ring, THAT might have topped all....)

I love Woodson!!  I can't stand the steelers and their quarterback and all the steeler "faithful".  Anyways, I say Woodson as a defensive player of the year last year has been stellar on Green Bay, so go Pack go.  Go Woodson.

Woodson and Woodley Unite in the 3rd Quarter to produce a super defensive player - a hybrid DL/DE/LB/CB and destroy both the steelers and packers, bringing the Super Bowl Trophy to Ann Arbor.

Unless CW goes out on offense, they're not going head-to-head.

Rooting for GB, but if the Steelers win, that's fine. I like both teams, especially since they play outside on real grass.

Its WOODley v. WOODson you mind as well put Tiger WOODs in there.  The new topic is, if he can win a tournament before the super bowl, which is saying that he wins this weekend or next.

Packers win! Woodson gets his ring, retires and coaches the DBs at his alma mater. Where he will eventually become the DC when Mattison retires. What defensive recruit wouldn't want to play for the only defensive player to win the Heisman?
