Seriously. After leaving him flapping in the breeze for so long, how do you now make him an offer when he knows he's nowhere near the 1st choice.
I'd be rather offended myself.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
I don't think Hoke would care but you better believe that the fanbase would know he was always the fallback. If Brandon wants someone to unite the fanbase, the guy we had to settle for because we couldn't get someone better is not going to do it.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
assume that DB wanted Harbaugh, contacted Harbaugh, and was turned down by Harbaugh. At this point, there is no solid proof that any of these things happened. As far as I can tell, Brandon has either contacted various candidates in a fairly simultaneous manner, or has, perhaps until today, contacted no one.
Either way, Hoke should not be offended.
Wake me up when it's over.

Yeah, that Mike Martin guy is a ninja. Undersized!
January 7th, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
300 pounds? Pfft, we need 320!!! Why aren't they eating more pizza?!? RABBLE RABBLE!!!
January 7th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
Has Harbaughs whole dog and poney show been all about driving his price up with San Fran where its been rumored hes been going since Singletary was fired
January 7th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
Get ready, like it or not...
January 7th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
don't know if this has been posted yet, but check out http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/brady-hoke-not-jim-harba…
Hoke doesn’t rebuild programs by himself. He has the best strength coach in college football, Aaron Wellman.
Over the course of five years, Wellman took two fat offensive tackles (Robert Brewster and Andre Ramsey), an undersized center (Dan Gerberry) and a razor-thin tight end (Darius Hill) and sculpted them into all-conference players and NFL prospects.
Brewster, Ramsey, Gerberry and Hill formed the foundation of Ball State’s 2008 team and then landed on NFL rosters in 2009.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
I'm a little girl for Aaron Wellman!
Can we please discard the idea that S&C coaches are especially crucial? Barwis is outstanding at what he does, and the linebackers still can't get off blocks.
Barwis. Wellman. Whoever. It won't matter if the head coach can't do his job right.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
can we please discard the idea that sarcasm is an especially good response to posts that provide some information and ask questions in light of it?
January 7th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
I am not convinced that Hoke will be the savior for Michigan. DB should offer Patterson $5MM per year already and introduce him this weekend!
January 7th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
He would still run a spreadish offense and a 4-2-5 wouldn't require a huge change in personnel. The man is a proven winner and just won the rose bowl over a very tough Wisconsin team.

January 7th, 2011 at 5:21 PM ^
so our long-term plan is to be competitive by 2016?? I think everyone will be drinking long before then..
January 7th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
If we don't get some offensive continuity, it will be perfect timing for firing the next coach in 3 years because they didn't win quick enough! Brandon does have a plan!
January 7th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
We'll never know. I've just ordered a thousand Korans from Amazon and commenced building a flamethrower. I'm taking the world down with me.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
He's out of the club now as far as I'm concerned. Go to hell JH.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
I'll tell you where we go from here (seriously):
- We'll know much more by Monday, and perhaps Saturday. I do believe Les MIles is seriously in play, and that Hoke wasn't being courted because (until a few hours ago) Harbaugh was in play.
- Now that Harbaugh is out, and LSU plays its bowl game tonight, there will be a heavy push for either (or both) Miles / Hoke. Gary Patterson admits he hasn't been contacted, which makes no sense unless we've got someone tee'd up.
- The only two guys that could be tee'd up would be Les Miles (LSU fanbase freakout, Michigan plane in Baton Rouge today) or Brady Hoke (Michigan is "dream job", name is everywhere).
These are just my thoughts from the research I've done today, trying to read as much as I can while still getting work done.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
I agree, I'd say very high probability that one of those two guys is announced as head coach over the weekend.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
Other than Miles being a sleeze and Hoke being not a good coach. The "Michigan Man" meme is absurd and shouldn't (but will) be the basis of a hire
January 7th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Completely agree, and if it turns out after the fact we hired Miles or Hoke because they'd been at Michigan before, I'll be pissed. If I had to make 10 choices at the college level at both a head coach and coordinator level, only Miles would be in that list and he'd be pretty low on it.
They might work, but Michigan experience should not (but like you said probably will) be a requirement.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
Dammit, this is a time for passionate, possibly inflammatory, conjecture, and overreaction, not for reasoned, and factually supported, analysis
January 7th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
I'll believe Miles is in play when it happens. There are still plenty of people who absolutely do not want Les. Influential people.
January 7th, 2011 at 6:07 PM ^
That was in 2007. Three years of losing will change peoples' minds. Even if DB is suppossedly talking to Carr throughout this process.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
I don't think the anti-Miles people are very influential anymore. Remember, the Bo/Lloyd Carr regime has essentially been flushed from the AD.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
Maybe DB can coach for awhile. Isn't that what happened at Nebraska?
January 7th, 2011 at 6:11 PM ^
I wish some wannabe journalist kid asked him that during the last press conference, "Mr. Brandon, when will you be announcing yourself as head football coach?"
Keeping the straight face is critical, but I'm sure our kid journalist could hold it together.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
It's not that complicated. . .even if you wanted to stick to Brandon's stupid plan to wait until after the bowl game. Once Miss St finished beating Michigan's ass, you call Jimmy Harbaugh and say 'yes or no.' He says 'no,' you look around and see nothing else, so you keep RichRod one more year, you win 8 games and give up another 450 points, and all the while you quietly lay the groundwork to bring in Urban *Legend* Meyer. . .simple as that.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
You just signed up to post that? Tell me that the little kid in your avatar is your son and I won't be annoyed (in case you care that I'm annoyed by your post).
January 7th, 2011 at 5:35 PM ^
It's funny; Stanford is my dream job for Brady Hoke!
January 7th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
Because tolerating a year of bad head coaching is ok when your sure that Mr. Super Hot Savior Coach will be leaping into Brandon's open arms at the end of the year.
January 7th, 2011 at 7:42 PM ^
3 or 4 years of Brady Joke. . .
The landscape is barren this year. . .w/o Jimmy H., the wise decision would have been to wait until the coaching pond is restocked. . .now we gonna have a little bitty bluegill coaching Michigan for the next 3, 4 years.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
I know who we need lets get Miami's interim coach I mean did you see that peptalk?
January 7th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
Meanwhile, for all you Mike Leach lubbers....
TTU = major recruiting violations under Leach.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
I mean... I don't know how old you are... but 234 text messages to 45 prospective athletes by one coach? I know people in college probably send and recieve at least 100-200 texts a day if not more.
Thats... 5.2 texts to each person? Over how much time I wonder? And some probably responded so there was a quick conversation...
To be fair... I'd probably say on an average day I send about... 150-200 texts a day? It's really not a lot at all.
I know it's illigal... but it's not exactly like texting is an obvious thing that Mike Leach would definitely know about. If that's the reason we didn't hire him I'd be concerned about our program/fan base/decision makers.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:37 PM ^
But not taking head injuries seriously and locking kids in a closet for complaining are reasons to not hire someone. I'd take oversigning and allegedly bopping Moeller's wife over that any day.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
I'm not on the Leach bandwagon...
Just stating that the texting thing isn't a big deal IMO... in no way should that ever be "Major".
January 7th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
Kwame said same thing about texting too.... No big Deal

January 7th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
For what its worth, and to toot my own horn, I've been clicking the sh-t out of the ad banners all day.
The most recent one was an ad for the American Military University. Anyone ever heard of it? The front page has a photo of a pilot outside of his fighter plane. That should be false advertising - I immediately assumed that I could be a fighter pilot by attending that school. It took me several minutes of mulling it over (right before submitting my application) to realize that I'm an idiot.
January 7th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
Maybe we'll get a decision soon now...
January 7th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
Any way we can we get the banner changed to this?
And yes, RR is looking right at the Diva...
