It looks like if we can take care of the football, this is a very winnable game.

I'm still hoping for Florida. Highest profile and very winnable.
... I do have a some inlaws who are big UT fans though. Which would make it a little more interesting on a personal level.

will ignore its home town team, Stanford, and choose TCU or some other non-PAC-10 school? Is it because Stanford fans don't even come to their own home games?
December 4th, 2010 at 7:42 AM ^
I think it's because TCU is required to be selected by the time it gets to the Rose Bowl's first selection because they are a top-four team.
Might be wrong though.

Per the rules:
For the games of January 2011 through 2014, the first year the Rose Bowl loses a team to the NCG and a team from the non-AQ group is an automatic qualifier, that non-AQ team will play in the Rose Bowl.

Thanks bronx. Considering how shitty Stanford fans are at supporting their team at home games, maybe the Rose Bowl officials are actually glad it'll be TCU instead.

Because of the location, I am guessing that this rule was put in to appease Utah and/or BSU, whichever qualified first. I'm pretty sure they had no idea TCU would end up being the "party crasher." I wonder how many TCU fans will go all the way to Cali to watch a bowl game? It would have been a lot easier trip for the fanbases of Utah or BSU.

Oh please let it happen, I've got so many in-laws and friends that are UT grads.

I will hold the grudge against them as long as I live for what Fulmer did to us in 1997, simply because Woodson won the Heisman over Manning.

I'm with you 100% bighouseinmate living here for the last 29 years has had lots of ups and downs. The biggest up was being out with my wife for my Birthday on Dec. 13 1997. When they announced the Heisman winner on the tv in the bar we were at and I screamed YEESSS to the irritated grumblings of all the orange clad Manningites. That was so sweet, Beating them in the Gator Bowl would be another savory moment in my time here in Tenneessee.

UT is a tough team to figure. First part of the season they looked terrible, but since moving Tyler Bray into the lineup, they've definitely had much better results, winning their last four. Of course, that also coincides with moving into a much easier part of their schedule.
Has anyone seen them recently and can comment on how much of their winning streak has been due to improved play vs. easier competition?
December 4th, 2010 at 12:05 PM ^
my very un-professional opinion would be that they've actually gotten better. They played close until halftime against oregon, lsu and alabama, to only get blown away later. They have a very average to above average offensive line, tyler bray has really settled down and a backfield with oku and poole has really been moving the ball well. wide receiver justin hunter has come on lately and really turned into a big play receiver along with darrick rogers, they could really do some damage against us.

I smell revenge from 2001. That was possibly the worse team Lloyd Carr had.
