Too many ofers on offense

Submitted by mabrsu on
Per Rivals we are offering another RB. I cannot believe the amount of offers going out to the offense. 6 or 7 to QB already, at least 10 RBs, and we have 3 WR commits but there are other offers out there still for the slot. I find this unbelievable considering we have more players on offense on the roster already! We need to be dishing out offers for the defense seriously. I think there is only one ILB offer on the table to that guy from Ohio. Like that isn't a big need or anything. Can't really picture this ever being a defensive team even though RR had good defenses at WV. Trust me I saw that fiesta bowl against OU. The numbers alone on defense will make it hard to compete. We must have the Lo Woods, Cullen Christians, Marvin Robinsons of the world in the bag or something.

Its like at work - Everday, I get a list of 125 sales calls to make and I think "I can't handle 125 sales today!" I don't understand closing ratios any better than you do, so I agree. Lets make an offer, wait for a definative response and then make another offer to someone else - if we have to.

If you don't actually field a defense at all, then the opposing team will score on the first play of every drive. THAT way, we get the ball back into the hands of our ninja offense that much sooner! Brilliant!

I am just stating the obvious fact that from the amount of offers going out a hell of a lot more of them are on offense. It doesn't take a genius to know that. Also from what Greg Robinson said how we have less players on the roster. It is troubling, that is all. I believe in RR a ton. Doesn't mean you can't speculate or be concerned. That is the whole fun of being a fan.

a) It's fine to speculate. Some speculations can be idiotic, though. b) You don't know what offers have gone out. The only way you find out about an offer is if Scout or Rivals or TomVH reports it. I'm sure there are some offers that have been given out that you, nor I, are not aware of. c) Refer to MGoObes' post above - offensive players are easier (and quicker) to scout than defensive players.

Does anyone recall the fears everyone had last summer that RR was only recruiting little 5'9" 150lb speedsters and ignoring other positions of need like DE? And look how last years class turned out. 10 of our 22 recruits are defensive players with several who could play on both sides and our top 2 recruits were both defensive players. Chill, if come next december we have no defensive recruits, then you can start worrying.

Doesn't anyone consider that some of the delay n throwing out defensive offers is due to the fact that GERG just took over the job recently? He is likely going through a process of evaluating the current players on the roster, determining what needs there are to fill, and re-establishing his points of contact with coaches and players as DC at Michigan. It all takes time, but are likely early steps in creating a consistent and coherent approach between staff and recruits for defense.

Did we get all the recruits we offered in 09?? Well, if we did we would be stacked at QB and every other position. No other BCS school would have recruits at all(OK, just a few for lack of housing in AA) as our walk-on program skyrockets.....Anarchy ensues. And so on....... We B fine. I would like to see about 30 offers out to DB's though(damn safety hating god couldn't possibly claim all their souls).

options at RB. We've got another year of Minor and at most we can expect him to carry what... 75% of the RB carries this year? At most. That doesn't account for injury and then consider how important RB is in RR's offense and the uncertainty of recruits panning out and it all adds up to needing a lot of options at RB. Given all that, I'm still not sure why every one is riding the poster for bringing up a relevant point however butchered, smashed, bloody and twitching it may be on the hors d'oeuvres plate of offseason questions. We're getting to learn more about RR as a coach and at this point, I'm thinking when he's looking for roster spots to fill and talent to grab, yes, he's almost always thinking offense first. Now I know what you're going to say... astonishingly perceptive... brilliant even. Save your accolades for Tebow. I'm just a team player, doing my part to keep the stirred pot swirling. I wonder who the 8th safety to get an offer for 2010 will be, and can he possibly live up to the standards set by Stevie Brown and Charles Stewart? The true impact players of 2008.
