Any news on Molk?
I was in the car for most of the game so I didn't see the injury and am not aware if he came back, but (a) how was Molk injured, and (b) if he did not return, does anyone know if he was seriously hurt? This might be covered in the presser, but I figured I would ask.

he walked off the field on his own.. Looked to be a tweaked ankle again. I don't think he came back into the game, but they probably kept it safe not wanting him to hurt it further when we have 5 games left.

I could have sworn that I saw him come out later on. Maybe not. In any case, at least we didn't have the immediate breakdown that we did with Moosman last year.

I don't think he was limping coming off the field.

Rich said he expects him back after the bye.

Thank God for the bye. I think Mouton was playing banged up towards the end of the game as well. Hopefully we get those two guys back in time for PSU.

no biggie

I was expecting the ball to be hiked about 20 feet too high when he came in the game, I'm glad it wasn't.

I don't think Molk came back in at all. Rocko seemed to be a decent fill-in, but the offense definitely miss Molk. We could have won this game, but we obviously are not good enough to overcome all the mental errors. That 3rd down tackle that Courtney Avery missed late was brutal. I don't think the coaching staff can be blamed at all for this one. I hope the Rodriguez haters don't go nuts after this one. I think we still have 3 to 4 wins left on the schedule, and 8 or 9 wins would be huge going into next year.

Apart from the multiple personal fouls and kicking 2 kickoff's out of bounds, that Avery missed tackle is really what did it in. I fully believed in the comeback until that happened. Just wasn't our day.

Penn State, Purdue, maybe Illinois. Wisconsin is looking pretty tough, and OSU away the week after ain't gonna be easy ...

Correct - I didn't see Molk at all.
I think the o-line did just fine. Tate and Denard had time to throw, for the most part.
The kicks out of bounds probably hurt just as much as anything.

Maybe I wasn't paying too much attention, but I saw Patterson on the field a lot more than I would like today. Did Martin miss a significant chunk of time due to injury?
October 16th, 2010 at 7:42 PM ^
I'm wondering the same thing. Dude is in great shape so you'd think it was an injury but noone seems to know.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
I watched him, or rather the lack of him, most of the game. Patterson took most of the snaps. Martin's ankle must not be quite right.
I thought the D-line did okay today considering Martin was out, though I'm not really sure whose job it is to solve the eternal mystery that is the cut-back run.

He tweaked a knee at the end of the MSU game. I looked on the sideline, he was dressed, but seems like he didn't play at all.

Amazing we kept it as close as we did with Molk, Martin, and Denard missing major time. Let's take Stanzi, Clayborne, and Johnson-Koulianos off Iowa's team and see how well they do. I'm down, but I'm not out. We've got a bye week to get healthy and rally down the stretch.

Hear, hear. I applaud your voice of sanity amongst the delirious.

I totally agree. This will be a different team in two weeks, and I think PSU will be in for a world of hurt.
October 16th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
neither did Denard.

This is a team that needs a bye week if I've ever seen one. I hate bye weeks but the team is a bit banged up after today. Hopefuly they can regain some focus over the next two weeks.

This is the perfect time for the bye week. It is so frustrating to watch this team because it's like watching Jekyll and Hyde.
The 3rd and 14 play where Robinson got 15 yards was pathetic, as was the screen pass at the end of the game on 3rd down.
But I know it's a young defense and I liked how they were actually aggressive today. Just gotta clean up their gaps and tackling.
I would keep Demens in there over Ezeh. What took them so long to make this change?

I think they coaches finally saw the same thing the announcers pointed out - Ezeh getting flattened early in the game. Demens did look good. Hopefully he's here to stay.

the binoculars on center-QB exchanges after Molk went out and let me tell you, it was scary. A ton of the shotgun snaps were high,or off-center resulting in bobbles and delays in the play developing. Now that's just an experience thing that I'm sure will be addressed in practice over the next couple weeks but I hope Molk is OK and starts at Penn State.

I noticed this too. It may not have been snaps that went farther than our punts ala last year, but it did throw off the timing especially the timing of the zone reads. I guess some of that is to be expected.
October 16th, 2010 at 8:53 PM ^
but kudos to Khoury. To come in after last years debacle, not to mention coming in against the Iowa defense had to have been tough. He isn't Molk, but he got it done.
October 16th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
Seemed like there were a few bad snaps without Molk in there.
October 16th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
I'd say Khoury looked serviceable and by the time he's (hopefully) actually needed in a couple years he'll be pretty good.
