OT: Threet's Headband
Not that anyone is supposed to care about this, but I found it interesting: I just saw Steven Threet on the sideline on TV after throwing a TD for ASU, and I noticed he wears a headband or bandana under his helmet with the number "517" on it, apparently showing his pride in being from Adrian, MI where that is the area code. This seems to be a semi-popular thing to do, as I believe Reggie Bush did at USC (among others), only on his eyeblack strips.
Anyway, I would also like to add Threet looks like he has improved a ton since his one-year stint at UM, evidenced by his more than solid numbers and almost leading his Sun Devils to a win at Camp Randall (I'm sure he wanted to strangle their kicker after that game, missed PAT and all). I have to say, good for him. I wish him all the best and hope he does some good things in the PAC-10 this year.

I've never heard of him before. You said he played at USC. I don't even remember his name from anywhere. Did he play back in the 40's or 50's? Must be some distant memory

Number [REDACTED] in your program, number one in your heart

There are no records of this guy, whoever he is, playing at USC. Perhaps it's a typo?

I vaguely remember hearing something about someone with a similar name winning the Heisman a couple years back, but I checked and it seems that nobody won it at all that year. Strange.

Considering he just threw ANOTHER int. This one in the end zone with his team driving ....

He is still WAY too prone to throwing picks....and there's another one as I type this. Well, he's making me look like a moron for praising him, but I will still contend that he does seem to have developed at least a little more leadership and ability to run an offense. His night against the Ducks is quickly deteriorating due to all the INTs.

This game is crazy. ASU has about 600 yards and 6 turnovers. I'm going to regret staying up for this one.

And there's yet another INT. Man. I'm pulling for the guy, but he just wasn't the answer.

Wow, how does this not suprise me. I don't like Vick, him being a criminal and all, but all my friends think he's the best player in the universe

last 2 in the Red Zone......he is simply costing his team the game.....
September 26th, 2010 at 10:15 AM ^
I was so torn...he was single-handedly keeping his team in the game while giving it away the same time. Crazy game.

ASU has put up a good fight but just way too many mistakes. BTW, why would you ever put white lettering on white jerseys (Oregon's names on the back)? Either put the name on or don't....its like Nike is secretly trying to get everyone to buy HDTV's
September 26th, 2010 at 2:19 AM ^
The USA Basketball jerseys had the same thing. I don't get it either.

I sure hope that headband caused the 7 turnovers. Ugh. Despite that, I still think Threet will pull off a nice upset this year, just like in 2008.

I guess all I had to do was say a few good things about Threet to get him to totally implode in this game. All in a nights work. But seriously, at the very least he's not as bad as he used to be. Oregon is a pretty good team, without much of a defense, typical PAC-10 contender. Oh, and even if the game was a slop-fest, it was worth it to stay up to see those Oregon cheerleaders. ASU's aren't bad either.

99 percent of the 517 is farmland.

Hey now, you watch yourself talking about the 517 that way.
September 26th, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
E. Lansing is definitely part of that 99%.

ASU absolutely dominated Oregon in the 2nd half of that game. They outgained the Ducks by almost 200 yards. Tough to watch a team come so close to a big win like that only to shoot themselves in the foot time and again. They even fumbled once because a guy injured his leg and just dropped the ball to grab hold of it. Ugh. Between that and Cincinnati falling short against OU thanks to a muffed punt and a fumble while going in for a score (by the same poor guy, who was just weeping on the sideline), last night produced a frustrating batch of what-ifs.

Always root for Threat and Mallet, but after seeing them give away their games today I was very glad they are ex-wolverines
