oh lord
September 18th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
They're obviously prepping for OSU.

If there is a grade lower then an F then that's what I give him. He couldn't make adjustments against the same plays all game. GERG didn't make any obvious second half adjustments, the defense continued to get burned up the middle, on the mis direction, on the playactions, the bootlegs, you name it and Gerg fell for it. You'd think a coach of his caliber would be able to make simple adjustments. We are so lucky to have an offense like we do because we would have lost this game otherwise.
September 18th, 2010 at 2:53 PM ^
You think that at some point we could cover the guys on the same side of the rollout and send someone at the quarterback? Were at the 10 minute mark of the 4th and I am getting so I can call the play at snap.
Not good considering the most play calling I have ever done is in backyard flag football..
September 18th, 2010 at 2:56 PM ^
we could stil give up 400 yards and 30 points. Yeesh.
September 18th, 2010 at 2:56 PM ^
if we could tackle!!!!
September 18th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
Let's relax. The defense is young and learning. UMass is better than anyone was giving them credit for - that offensive line is huge and moves well. Take the win and move on.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:11 PM ^
That's what these games are for. A lot of the schemes we are seeing today, we'll see more of down the road in the league. Plus no major injuries that I have seen. So let's do better next time.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:13 PM ^
I take that back. Our perceptions of the team took a little beating. But that is our issue, not theirs.
September 18th, 2010 at 4:11 PM ^
I'm not too worried about how the rest of the country or the MSM perceives us. I'm more concerned with getting wins and getting to a decent bowl game; or a bowl game period.
The rest of the world can think our defense sucks donkey D, as long as we keep getting Ws.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:35 PM ^
Relax, shit. We would have lost to ND if Crist had been in the whole game. And now UMass has shown everyone else the light.
This is 2009 all over again. What's worse is it is a shave close to the Horror all over again.
Unacceptable!
September 18th, 2010 at 3:38 PM ^
step back from the ledge
September 18th, 2010 at 4:06 PM ^
Does this comment get negged? It's the complete and utter truth! Unacceptable is the one word that absolutely summarizes that defensive effort. Period. Sugar coat it all you want with "it's a win, take it and move on," but the writing is on the wall, folks.
September 18th, 2010 at 5:13 PM ^
It's "unacceptable?" Really? You have to accept it, because it happened. You could say it was dissappointing or it was frustrating but saying it was "unacceptable" just makes you look like a flaming douchebag.
September 18th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
UNACCEPTABLE must always be written in all caps. No sugarcoat.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
seriously. Did you not see the OSU score? That is what this game should have been. This was an embarrassing display by the UM D.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:48 PM ^
We are not OSU and U Mass is not Ohio U. At least today.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:05 PM ^
Expectations: lowered. 415 yards to an FCS team (so far) is ominous. Indiana on the road will clearly be a challenge. This D hangs back too much and waits for turnovers. It's UMass - play up.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:09 PM ^
Forget GERG. Who coaches and recruits special teams?
September 18th, 2010 at 3:14 PM ^
42-37 This is scary. They'll probably try the onside kick.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:14 PM ^
FIRED..... 37 points by UMASS; if our offense wasn't this good we would be getting killed by a FCS team. Completely unacceptable. This happens week in and week out.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
UNACCEPTABLE!1!!!1?1!
September 18th, 2010 at 3:35 PM ^
If Denard weren't the best player in college football right now, we not only would have lost to an FCS school; we would have gotten killed by an FCS school. This is most embarrassing defensive performance I've ever seen from U-M in 30 years of being a fan.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
So this was worse then the horror?
September 18th, 2010 at 5:38 PM ^
go away for a little while man. have a drink, take a deep breath, & come back when you start making sense.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
September 18th, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
UMass has got to be close to 500 yards.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
September 18th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
well that was fun. can we just stop with the FCS teams please.
September 18th, 2010 at 4:10 PM ^
What good comes from it? You win, you're supposed to. You lose and you're the laughing stock of FBS college football. You win close and you're still pretty much the laughing stock of FBS college football, as the MSM current commentary demonstrates. If we're going to shit the bed, it might as well be against a FBS team. Stop giving these FCS teams the Rocky Balboa shot at the title!
September 18th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
Yes, seeing the defense struggle is irritating. But, hearing people on this board overreact and call for firings is even more irritating. STFU, and let the kids grow up and learn how to execute before we decide to go with ANOTHER defensive coordinator... again.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
Umass is not running anything complicated. You don't need to be even a good defense to stop rollouts by a pedestrian QB.

Michigan is not a good football team.Horrid defense and special teams equals another 5-7 season.

I think Michigan has to make gigantic strides over the next week if they have any hope of making a bowl.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:38 PM ^
September 18th, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
Is this sarcasm? We're not very good, but we only need 3 more wins with teams like BG, IU, Illinois, and Purdue on the schedule. We could beat MSU and could give PSU a run for their money. We will make a bowl. But beating UConn doesn't mean much after their performance today and who knows how the ND game would have ended if Crist played the whole game healthy.
September 18th, 2010 at 5:27 PM ^
the fact that this got any positive points makes no sense. If you really think we're only gonna win 2 games the rest of the year, barring injury, you are an idiot. Our offense alone, regardless of our defense, is good enough to get us to a bowl game. When we finish this year better than you expect us too, please don't jump back on the bandwagon. Moron.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
Why did Jonas Mouton not murder UMass' QB on that TD run he had near the pylon? Dude was in bounds. He scored.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:29 PM ^
the refs throw that p*ssysh*t personal foul f*king flag on the sideling to f*king often
September 18th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
Quarterback faked running out of bounds. Mouton held up. (although the hit was probably worth the penalty) I had visions of Crable vs. Troy Smith on that one.

Damned if do... Damned if you don't.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
Yeah, let's fire our D-coordinator again for not having seniors on defense and having to plug holes with walk-ons and position switches. UMass executed well and we knew going into this season that our D would be a black hole. We survived and this is a year where we just want wins, we're not ready to get graded on style points. This is about continuity and building the program back up to where it belongs.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:39 PM ^
Complete bullshit. We have plenty of talented scholarship athletes. We should be able to hold an FCS opponent to less than 30 at home. We gave up more points to UMass than William & Mary and Holy Cross. That was the worst coaching and execution performance on defense I have ever seen at U-M. Horrible.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
And how many of those talented scholarship athletes play in our secondary and have more experience than a sophomore, former walk-on?
The statmasters on this site have shown that the key to a good defense is talented players that have experience in the system. We're getting the talent but they're real young right now all throughout our secondary which is where our defensive holes are right now.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:52 PM ^
It must be lonely being logical right now.
September 18th, 2010 at 4:02 PM ^
where have you been the last 3 years? Hawaii in 1984?
September 18th, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
I mean yeah we won but that was soooo hard to watch. It's embarrassing honestly.
September 18th, 2010 at 5:29 PM ^
how is it embarrassing for you? are you on the team?
September 18th, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
September 18th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
GERG's hair is perfect.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:29 PM ^
You know what really works in college football? Fire a DC every couple of years because he doesn't "produce", ignore the lack of depth and players on that side of the ball, and say everything is "unacceptable" because you want UM to be perfect.
This is a crappy defense. It was crappy two years ago, horrendous last year, and about the same this year. It will improve with better players, but that takes time. Remember that all of these freshmen getting PT will only help at the end of the year/next year.
September 18th, 2010 at 3:34 PM ^
what was truly a pathetic performance by our defense. Sure we need more talent but anyone trying to justify a 430 yard performance against UMass is fooling themselves. Just like anyone calling for a firing mid-season is fooling themselves. It's not unreasonable to hope for better results from our defense than this.
