Keep Michigan-OSU At The End Of The Season Petition
I have created a petition asking Dave Brandon to reconsider his position and make sure that Michigan / OSU ends up at the end of the season.
Here's the link:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/keepthegameattheendoftheseason/
Please sign and circulate to as many people as possible.

DB has 1/12 of the vote...it's not his decision. His position is not going to be the savior/fail of when UM/OSU play.
August 20th, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^
Brandon has his hands tied, it is all about the money and the BTN. If UofM and OSU are the best in the Big Ten they will meet in the BTC game.
It is going to happen he is just trying to soften the blow
August 20th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
It's not that simple. Yes, he only has 1/12 of the vote. If it comes down to a final vote, his is but one.
But, it is more likely that the 12 ADs will work together to craft divisions. if the ADs of Michigan and OSU do not advocate that the game be kept at the end of the season, then nobody will. Why would Purdue's AD give a damn where this game falls? We need Brandon, as a representative of one of the conference superpowers, and as OUR representative, to advocate as strongly as possible that The Game be kept where it is.

You gotta think beyond the direct vote he's entitled to. Part of playing politics is acquiring support from otherwise adverse sources. "You scratch my back, I scratch yours" sort of thing. I am sure Dave Brandon's Pimp Hand is capable of a few MGoReachArounds to garner votes in favor of his agenda. Just sayin'
None of us know how this went down, but we must remember our place. We, the fans, alumni, students, and boosters are the ultimate source of revenue. Everything else is speculation and arbitrage. Consumers forking over their hard-earned dollars are the only tangible source of cash flows for the schools and the B10. Even the advertisers on the BTN do so because they believe the ads will boost sales.
We are the power, so maybe the outcry will make a difference.... then again, probably not. I'm sure their market analysts have already accounted for the weirdos of MGoBlog.

In theory, he's one voice out of 12. In reality, he carries more weight because Michigan (along with OSU, PSU and Nebraska) is one of the marquee programs and that game is the marquee game in the conference. If the participants in the game have an issue, it will resonate strongly.
August 20th, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
Unfortunately, I think it is out of his control. win our division and we will play them in the last conference game of the year.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:35 PM ^
That assumes that they, too, will win their division. Most years, the two teams realistically won't meet up then.
Besides, UM-OSU is a great game no matter what the records are. We didn't win the Big Ten in 1995, for instance, but I'll cherish the memory of that game forever. Having that game at the end of the year is such a huge part of our tradition. This would be a devastating move.

August 20th, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^
I agree that it likely will not have an affect, but if we are all going to just pitch about it and respond to the post on the main page pulling out our hair over this, we should at least try something productive.
Thanks for signing.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
It's a petition, not a living being, so it won't have an affect. It might have an effect, though.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
Double post - damn computers!
August 20th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
Thanks. Signed it.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
Brandon may only have 12th the vote, but at least let him be one "nay" out of 12. Right now, the idiot is actually supporting the move, and as a Michigan fan, that's infuriating.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:06 PM ^
You think maybe he is a "nay", but the powers that be in the Big 10 want UM/OSU earlier in the year, therefore it's a done deal, and DB is just throwing out the trial balloons to the fanbase. Calling DB an idiot is one of the stupidest things that I have heard, he isn't here to serve you, he's here to serve the University of Michigan and its athletic department and what's best for them.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:28 PM ^
And now he's failing absolutely miserably at it.
August 20th, 2010 at 4:51 PM ^
We are the customer. WE are the powers that be. If we massively complain, Brandon/Smith, and by extention the league, have no choice but to take notice.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:03 PM ^
It probably won't do any good, but I signed anyway.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:09 PM ^
I think the petition needs to be a joint effort with tOSU fans. Strange bedfellows, eh? I think the joint sponsorship would underscore the severity of the situation.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:11 PM ^
Perhaps a joint petition going to Brandon, the OSU AD, and Delany.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:36 PM ^
We should coordinate this with OSU fans.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
Always up for that.
I would hope that all AD's would understand the tradition and honor it for the good of not just both schools, but also the Big Ten.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:10 PM ^
I'd rather remove them from the schedule. Hopefully this change will break the curse.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:17 PM ^
It probably won't do much but at least we can let our voice be heard. Maybe Brandon can persuade others to change their mind you never know.
August 20th, 2010 at 1:29 PM ^
"This game has a tremendous meaning for us fans of the greatest rivalry in sports.
Being played on the third Saturday in November, and at the end of the season every year gives it a sense of holiday. A day that I look forward to as the outcome usually decides the champion of our conference. I ask you that you do not change a thing.
Always remember that we are "Leaders and Best," and a charter member of this conference. We dictate, we do not follow.
Look at what happened to the rivalry with Nebraska and OU. Please leave this as it is."
that was it. I might have too much passion for this team, but I'd rather lose to appy st than have this become irrelevant.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:03 PM ^
Welcome to MGoBlog.
A housekeeping note: References to "Appy State" are generally not thrown about loosely here. It is a dull persistent ache that reminds us of a past injury. At stake is your reputation, credibility and your 16 MGoPoints.
Again, welcome.

I've been reading this blog for a few years now should've known
August 20th, 2010 at 3:30 PM ^
I'm living proof. No worries.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
I still remember the look on my face and my dad's face when we were watching the longest yard and he drops the line about cupcake teams. The feeling in my gut was almost as bad as when they blocked the FG.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
Who cares how the first game turns out now if we get a shot at a rematch? Unbelievably senseless and awful move.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
My thought is the only way to make that game matter is that the winner gets homefield advantage but that won't happen.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
I think readers of this blog will agree that it is OK to move The Game anywhere in the season, as long as a few important criteria are met:
1) It is played at night
2) The Wolverines wear the brand-new Maize jerseys for The Game only!
I've already sent these suggestions to DB so you can start thanking me now.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:51 PM ^
Don't forget to completely eliminate the MMB and to spam us with 10-second clips of overused RAWK-MAW-SAWKS-AWF-RAWK SONGS.
August 20th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
We could also get some clips from a Wolverine movie to splice in there too. Something something Spartaaaaaa.
August 20th, 2010 at 2:56 PM ^
sometimes change is good and humans by nature are opposed to change as a general rule. In this case, nothing needs to be changed.
I can see some of the other side's points, but it all comes down to tradition, and the fact that us in separate divisions with a guaranteed game againstt eachother will make each of our schedules inherently tougher than the other 10 teams in the conference.
That just isn't right.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
As if our scheduled game with them isn't already heavily tilting our SOS? How about OSU? They play both Michigan AND PSU every year. It's no different than it is right now.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:10 PM ^
It just ain't the same if it's not the last regular season game.
I'll sign
August 20th, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
I signed it.
I say you keep posting this to try and get more signatures. Post it on the OSU blog too. If you can get it over 1,000 signed, send out a press release to the Detroit News (maybe even Freep). I guarantee they would pick something like this up:
Headline: "Over 1,000 sign petition to keep M-OSU at End of Season" - That would draw some attention.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:30 PM ^
This is nice, but I think emails to Brandon and Gene Smith (OSU's AD) plus whomever else you can reach at the league office will make more of an impact.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:48 PM ^
Write. Let your voice be heard. NOW is not the time to stand back. If you can do it for water bottles, do it for HISTORY.
But on the other hand, as many different methods to get attention as possible are good.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
Sure, but only because I'm longing to be a part of a movement.
August 20th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
An OSU fan started a facebook group
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=111917222197474
just noticed it stinks... I assume there will be more/better facebook groups. Seems like it's a better place for this thing.
August 20th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
it would take this to bring us together?
August 20th, 2010 at 4:58 PM ^
Actually... that facebook group seems to be gaining some steam.

I think sending emails is still the most effective reaction, but whatever - do what you can.
