OT- Sports Illustrated subscription
So coming into this football season I was looking at the magazine Sports Illustrated, and as I have a tough time keeping up with college sports, or any sport for that matter during the season, I think a SI subscription would be pretty cool. I was hoping that you guys here at mgoblog could tell me whether I should get one. Also- first thread I've made!
I use the internet, it works pretty well
Yes, I see what you mean here, but a lot of times the ESPN articles are blocked, or it doesn't give you significance of different games. Also online the information is very large and jumbled up, finding a straight answer is hard to do.
I'd say go for the ESPN The Magazine over SI. I like both. But ESPN got my vote because with a subscription to it, you also get free Insider - which is silver. MGOBLOG is GOLD.
(You may want to correct the spelling of believing on the bottom of your posts....It will help with the credibility factor)
easier to take into the shitter than a laptop.

The magazine is already in the shitter, no need to take it there with you.
The Internet is all you really need. If you feel you MUST have a mag, then I also recommend ESPN The Mag because it's MUCH cheaper. Sure there are fewer issues, but if you have any kind of life, you don't have time to get completely through a weekly periodical anyhow.
I've never been a fan of nationally circulated sports magazines. Too many stories about Tebow or the Yankees, and not much about what I want to read about.
the internet is my suggestion. The insider subscription for ESPN the magazine is worthless. You don't get any new information that is not already posted on mgoblog. SI is the more preferable one, only because you get the swim suit edition.
Buy the Hail to the Victors magazine. It really breaks down M football and what to look for this season.
(Shameless plug.)
I have had an SI subscription for 15 years. I used to read every magazine from cover to cover, religiously. It was my gateway to sports. Then I discovered that most anything in SI could be had on the Internet within five seconds, at 50 different locations.
In short, I haven't read a single magazine, not even a page, in over a year. I don't even know why I still get it -- probably because my mom auto-renews my subscription. Sorry, mom.
I think I am currently 7 or 8 issues behind on SI - they keep piling up, and I don't seem to be able to find the time to read them. Yet I refresh this site every few hours all day long....
I threw out several stacks of unread magazines when I moved about a month ago. I've lost all interest in that publication.

The only reason I have SI was so I could get Madden for free. If you don't cancel they will automatically renew your subscription for around $70, definitely not worth it. Usually you can get the first year pretty cheap or a cool gift like Madden but the internet is all you really need.
Sports Illustrated now employs Michael Rosenberg.
You can find free articles online with similar content to that magazine. I personally think it would be a waste of money.
As a long time subscriber, I think it is worth it. I use si.com (and plenty of other Internet sites) all the time, but they don't replace the magazine. It's form, as much as content.
For example, their current issue is a double issue focused on "Where are they now?" It's a cool annual issue and they focus on legends with in-depth articles (e.g., Stan Musial) and people you're vaguely aware of and get interesting quick updates on (e.g., they did a bunch of brief blurbs on Internet/YouTube sensations, eg., the "Boom Goes the Dynamite" kid, the girl who forgot the words to the natl anthem before Mo Cheeks stepped in to save her). I'm guessing much (if not all) of this stuff is available online, but if you go to si.com, you don't see any of it mentioned right now, b/c the Internet is much more focused on what is happening RIGHT NOW (e.g., free-agent signings, scores) and reporters generating power rankings and mail bags. The form the magazine allows you to cut through the clutter.
In short, getting the magazine (or the app on the iPad, if you're so inclined) gives you a chance to step back and get some insightful stories (along with some solid, brief "news" updates at the front so you get a good overview of what's going on) about sports and learn a bit more about the people who play these games.
I had an SI subscription for years, rarely read it. For me it was always kind of the People Magazine of sports. Lot of soft content. By today's internet standards any actual "news" in a magazine is old by the time it hits your mailbox.
Speaking of the mailbox, I am doing everything I can to empty it and receive no paper mail - terminating magazines are a great step in that direction.
either you like the magazine or you do not.
I like the magazine for taking it to the crapper or reading it on airplanes or while outside grilling etc...
Do not let your subscription auto renew..you can always negotiate the cheapest rate if you call them or email....
