was a discussion in the Fox News comments section yesterday about whether eliminating a minimum age for sexual consent would stop school shootings. The takeaway was that a minimum consent age was interrupting “God’s plan” for when adolescents would become sexually active and leading to repressed rage resulting in mass violence. Many agreed with this conclusion. SMH. Go Fox. You do you.

I thought these type of people didn’t agree with adolescent sex, or really sex at all. Can’t have it both ways.

I don’t agree with the argument you are referencing either, but since when do the comments section of an article represent the beliefs of the network?

But whatever supports your claim, ijohnb. You do you.

will, thanks. I am not attributing the statements to the network, I clearly and specifically said the comments section. It is just an example of the warped minds that think Fox News represents anything close to an accurate perception of reality. People call the New York Times fake news? Fox News is State run television.

As profits began to shrink the the news business, companies started to pare staff. The big push now is to get stuff published online as fast as possible, and Often no one other than the author reads it. There used to be multiple editors who reviewed every story, and all it took was one to catch an idiotic statement or a blatant error. Now, the error shows up online if the author got it wrong. Big stories get fuller treatment, but sloppiness has become ubiquitous through journalism.

as I understand people's frustration with news media, whether it's FOX or the NYT, and as much as I understand the importance of getting away every so often from the non-stop news cycle, I am wary of this "I'm just gonna not read any news at all" mentality. I mean, it's tempting to throw hands in the air and say "Nothing can be done about anything," but if you feel like there's any hope of improving our lot, it seems like those actions have to be based on some informed position of what's going on. Seek out the best news sources and take everything with a grain of salt, but don't just totally give up. my two cents.

Seek out the best news sources

That's the problem . . . it's very hard to get straight news anymore, just packaged agendas.

I'm shocked at how places that I used to turn to as an oasis of just straight news like CNN.com, have now become Fox News on the other side of the political spectrum to chase ratings.

that it's hard; it's not impossible. Herfe's a decent if perhaps slightly outdated chart of US news media and where they stand ideologically. I also think it's a GREAT idea to seek international perspectives. The Guardian, BBC or Telegraph from the UK, Al Jazeera in English, and if you can speak another language and find decent sources in other countries, fantastic. We need to be better informed, not less.
