OT: TV Shows or Movie Recomendations
The airlines thread a week ago seemed to generate quite a bit of interest amongst users. My question to all of you, is what shows or movies would you recommend downloading to watch during the flight?
I was recomended Parks and Rec from co-workers, but am more interested in what the board has to say.
It is glorious.

what do you like?

Power through the first season of Parks & Rec and it is still the most fulfilling show I've seen on TV. Beginning to end easily tops The Office in overall quality and what you get from it.
Narcos and End of the ****ing World (quick binge watch) are also great.
I agree on The Office vs. Parks and Rec. The Office had better highs, but the post-Michael Scott era was lame. Parks and Rec was solid after a slightly rocky start.
have been watching several episodes of the Office on cable when there is nothing else on, they play back to back every so often on like Oxygen or something like that. I have found myself wondering what I thought was so funny originally, and I never thought I would feel like that about that show.
a) I think it's partly because the genre has been copied so much - Parks and Rec, Superstore, etc. are similar in some ways.
b) I disagree. It's still funny.
only watched 1st couple of episodes of Parks & Recs and it seemed exactly like the random episodes of The Office (US) I catch. Personal taste but I prefer the writing and Ricky Gervais' Michael in the UK version over Carrell. I'll put P&R back on my radar.
I did not like Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler's character) in the first season of Parks and Rec, but she got more loveable in season two and then it was a smooth ride. Also, Parks and Rec is more hopeful with some more upbeat, positive characters. The Office is a little more dour throughout, and nobody is happy-go-lucky. Maybe it's just me, but you don't really finish an episode of Parks and Rec without feeling a little happier than you were before it started.

TV Show: Happy Endings, it's only three seasons and highly bingeable.
Movie: John Wick 2, everyone around you looking over your shoulder will thank you.

Homeland & Shameless on Showtime are worth a watch
Schitt's Creek, Rick and Morty, Altered Carbon (Netflix), The Punisher/ Daredevil (Netflix),
I liked Afro Samurai, may not be most people's cup of tea, Letterkenny(unfortunately, you have to find this on some torrent sites or reddit may have a link to the episodes, but its a Canadian show on Crave TV)
For Movies: Hot Rod is underrated, Semi-Pro, Four Brothers, Coffee Town, Assault on Arkham, Oblivion with Tom Cruise I actually liked. Was brought to see it by a friend and actually enjoyed it.
TV Shows - The Blacklist /The Office / Frasier
Movies - All Marvel / A Quiet Place <---- WOW
If you have Prime try Bosch. I think there are 3 seasons.
I just rebooted Amazon Video so I can watch the All or Nothing , and that looks good, so I think I'll watch that after season 2 of Sneaky Pete.
Justified,The Wire,Game of Thrones
Movie-The Searchers-John Wayne's best
any and all of those will make you wish your flight was longer
Can't say enough good things about Justified. As for older hbo I'd have to recommend Deadwood.
checks out
It is a really good Sci-Fi with alternate or futuristice realities based on mostly not far off technology capabilities. Each episode is different with a few threads that continue through the series. It is a bit of a mindfuck, but it's super engrossing and offers interesting perspectives on human nature and the unexpected consequences of new technologies.
Or, there's always 10 hours of Die Hard...
The best part about Black Mirror is the anthology "Twilight Zone" style story telling so if you don't like an episode *coughSEASONONEEPISODEONEcough* you can just move on.
It will put you off pork for a spell or two.
There are multiple episodes of that show that pop back into my head just because they are really profound and somewhat disturbing because they seem like completely realistic portraits of the future and while also being a sobering reflection of the current state of the world.
S1E1 was....different. Recommended the show to my buddy but warned him about that episode. He told me later that he watched it with his 11 year old son. Derp. Also the guy who took same son to Deadpool when he was 9.
Not sure what available streaming devices you have but heres some shows I think generally most people would like:
Fargo , Halt and Catch Fire (insanely underrated but I can get if you don't get into ) , Rectify, Better Call Saul, The Americans, Bloodline, Sneaky Pete , Billions, Boardwalk Empire, Getting on (if you like Parks and Rec you'd like that) , Veep. The Keepers (watch if you liked a Making of a Murderer) , Narchos, The Night Of, The Deuce, Little Big Lies, Mr. Robot. Master of None, Black Mirror. The Handsmaid Tale is good but just very dark. The Crown and This is Us is good to watch with the lady.
Then there's the classic dramas like Breaking Bad, The Wire, Sopranos, . Six Feet Under is amazing if you're okay with it being dark.
This is a lot, so honestly by top 3 all-time favorites in shows that have at least been new episodes the last few years are: Better Call Saul, Fargo, and Rectify.
Best comedies in recent years are Veep and Getting on . But Parks and Rec and The Office are awesome too
EDIT: I also can't believe I forgot to mention Silicon Valley. I just watched the new episode from last Sunday last night, Solid show all-around
Right up there with Parks and Rec in my opinion.
...is a genius.
The last kingdom on netflix is fantastic. Viking era Game of Thrones type show.
Netflix- and you can download the enitre single season. This is the show that was advertised during the Super Bowl this year. If your into futureworld, high tech, action, AI type of plot lines than you'll love this show. I watched over a couple of long flights and really enjoyed the storyline.....
I had trouble following it with all the "future" terminology they were using. But I'm almost done with season one and now that I understand it a little better, I've really enjoyed it.
The last few seasons got pretty damn repetative and I was just ready for it to end. It's good, but it just has it's definite flaws. Forgot to mention it in my other reply, but it's similar type to SOA, but Peaky Blinders is awesome.
TV series: Trailer Park Boys The first 5 seasons are absolutely fantastic
Movie: On Golden Pond. Do yourself a favor and watch it.
Agree on "Bosch" on Amazon TV, which I found after getting the Prime subscription so I could watch All or Nothing. Also highly recommend all of Michael Connelly's novels, from which the character Harry Bosch comes. The novels are excellently paced and very detailed detective yarns set in contemporary Los Angeles. Amazon also has the four-part "Long Strange Trip", an excellent documentary on the rise and fall of the Grateful Dead.
On Netflix we are really enjoying Grace & Frankie, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Sort of a contemporary "Odd Couple" in which the women end up moving in with each other after their husbands announce they are in love and want to marry each other. The husbands are played by Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen who are equally fantastic.
Others:
The Killing (Netflix)
The Crown (Netflix)
Others, Billions ; Homeland ....... Stranger Things
And.......ofcourse "All or Nothing"
Stanger Things is fantastic. I've watched the first 6 episodes of Lost in Space with my daughter and it is meh.
I've seen Homeland up to season 5 since it is free with Prime. I thought it started very good, then kind went down with season 4 being my least favorite. I thought they recovered nicely in season 5.
6 is better that season 5 and right now (Season 7) it is as good as it has been since the middle of season 2. I would catch up with it.
I'll get caught up eventually. There are so many things to watch and not enough time.
