MSU Would "Handle the Walton Situation Differently" Now; WAS Employed at MSU...

This means that at least two lies have been exposed and admitted by MSU here. First, Walton was an officially documented MSU employee, contrary to what Izzo/MSU/Walton first said. Second, they are tacitly stating things were not handled correctly by saying they would "do things differently today." This could be how it all starts...the end of Izzo, that is. The cynic in me wonders if this information comes out if he doesn't get bounced in the Round of 32?

I don't think their statement is that bad. I'm sure that Michigan would say the same about some sexual assault complaints they've received in the past.

What's more damning to me is their lies about personnel files and pay re: Walton. Seems as though their HR records are all out of whack. Which means that there could be plenty of documents they have "lost" or didn't record to begin with.

Look, as much as it makes sense to everyone of us that this should be the last year Tom Izzo coaches... MSU has shown through this entire process that they will lie, cover up, victim blame, media blame, and even go as far as investigating victims social media profiles to try to make this situation go away. What gives anyone any indication that MSU is moving in the direction of getting rid of Izzo or Dantonio? They will sell their souls to keep coaches around that have had success against Michigan. Tom Izzo is not leaving MSU unless the FBI drags him off campus.

Agreed.  With how much revenue they may lose due to title IX, and expenses from lawsuits/investigations, firing coaches from two highly profitable programs doesn't seem likely.  Especially when they are possibly the best 2 coaches they've ever had for each of their programs.  It's all about protecting the institution, and those programs bring in lots of revenue if the status quo can hold.

Just wait for the civil litigations to start leaking.

I don't expect the Denhollander family to sit idly and quiet nor many of the other gymnastics victims.

How long before civil suits arise from either the Title IX content, Corley/Vance, this current situation?

Death from 1000 cuts for MSU.

HBO series in 2022.

Deservedly.

He should have been fired and maybe still will - either way, does it matter? Mutiple commenters here have indicated that Izzo didn't develop his NBA talent this year.  It doesn't sound to my un-expert ear anyway, like he's even in the same league as Beilein.

Guerrant said the university's initial search didn't include temporary positions and as a result missed Walton's records, which were found with a subsequent review of payroll data. In response to an Outside the Lines appeal for additional withheld records, the university released another set of documents on Friday pertaining to Walton's employment.

This is one of the stranger parts - why are these records hard to find or otherwise sketchy? You would think it would not be too difficult to get answers on this portion of the story anyway, the HR-related stuff.

I work for a university. None of this stuff would be hard to access.

I find "another set of withheld records pertaining to his employment" pretty interesting.

MSU's fight/deny everything policy against ESPN, who has all the time, money and lawyers in the world for this stuff is mind boggling (bottling in blog parlance).

Seems like MSU would have wanted to get this one right the first time and not release false information about personnel files - they knew this wasn't going away. I do think this was just an oversight, but is just another illustration of how inept MSU's administration really is.

Couple this with Walton's statement incorrectly saying that he was "never hired or fired by MSU" (yeah, he lied), and it's another BAD look.  While it's clear there are systemic issues at MSU, this is just another small example that probably isn't very significant in the grand scheme of things.  This particular peice is laughable because MSU can't get out of their own way and can't even find their own personnel files.  Certainly doesn't help them sway the general public to believe the ESPN had their facts wrong in the original OTL report.

IDK.

I expect everyone at MSU thought it would just go away just as, historically, everything else had just gone away under Hollis/LSA and the BoT watch.

Nerd Rage beatings?

Glenn Winston?

Appling/Payne?

LJ Scott drinking and driving (but only like 7 times)

Demetrius Cooper interacting with parking officials

Chris Rucker

The list goes on  and on...

It used to go away. Then they pissed on ESPN. Pride/Fall, something, something....

Engler has repeated that ESPN has sensationalized the story, but Engler has (1) not yet pointed out a single factual inaccuracy and (2) declined to be interviewed by ESPN where Engler would have been given time to spell out how ESPN sensationalized this story.

I guess it is easier to say something and let the masses of Spartans regurgitate it then actually explain it intellectually on camera with someone who can cross examine you.

Couple this with new Spartan lies exposed and it does not look good.

a tacit admission; the director of the GEAR-UP program at MSU said (I'm paraphrasing...)   Holy @!%!!  This guy was working with KIDS and I had NO FREAKING IDEA!!

Also, re:  LSA comments about records being hard to find, MSU demonstrated continued disregard for anything resembling honesty/transparency.  They didn't release any documents ever until forced - and likely avoided even creating a paper trail whenever possible.   Their system worked, for a long while... finally starting to catch up with them now.

As explained to me this weekend by a Spartan fan the video on the hard drive of Dean William Strampel of Nassar abusing a young woman was merely evidence he was reviewing to determine Nassar's culpability.  Sounds as logical as some of the other comments floating out of East lansing.

But wait a minute.....have you seen the facilities at MSU? Have you been to the Breslin lately? They actually have a waiting list to get in ya know.

when Myles Bridges came under some scrutiny late in the year MSU trotted out the player dedicating season to little girl stuff again.

Sick place, sick people.
