NCAA S16 Open Thread
Clemson - Kansas
West Virginia - Villanova
Syracuse - Duke
Texas Tech - Purdue
This has the potential to be 4 very good games. I'm rooting for the B1G and chaos. Enjoy.

Purdue fast break, clear foul on TT.

Kinda sad watching Purdue try to play without Haas after building the whole season around him playing in the middle.

changed shoes. Hope it works.

Should've gone with the pink ones.

Cuse sucks. Getting lobbed to death.
March 23rd, 2018 at 11:48 PM ^
should have been travelling. TT kid slid 3 feet.

Purdue should not be this bad offensively. They're still one of the best 3-point teams in the country. They just seem to be pressing and taking rushed shots.

suck.

Bagley never left the paint.
March 23rd, 2018 at 11:54 PM ^
if they want to stay in this. Hell, they need to make anything but 3's are fast becoming needed

Still holding out hope for Purdue

matchup for us but I don't care. Duke needs to go. Period. I despise them so much
March 24th, 2018 at 12:05 AM ^
I'd rather face Self than K.

The right half of the bracket is loaded with dangerous teams.
But whomever advances from our half of the bracket will only have to face, at most, one of them.

Syracuse has been in the bonus for a good 4-5 minutes and they've been jacking up (and missing) 3's most of that time.

Carsen Edwards has decided to go 1 on 5. This will end well.
March 24th, 2018 at 12:03 AM ^
but good call on Gray. He's been getting away with lots of cheapies.

Somehow Cuse is still in this.

Upsets are nice and all but Syracuse is just a horrible team to watch. And while I'd like a meteor to strike Omaha before the end of the game Sunday it will be a good game to watch.

Duke is an ugly 2-3 zone team now too.
March 24th, 2018 at 12:24 AM ^
Better on offense.

Purdue looks sooo out of sorts, just generally. Their season ended when Haas fell on his elbow.

Purdue has committed so many dumb turnovers today. Makes you really appreciate Beilein.

I know Haas is out, but this is a sorry effort from Purdue. Terrible ball movement, tons of sloppy mistakes like mishandled passes, a lot of hero ball - just not smart basketball tonight.
March 24th, 2018 at 12:36 AM ^
My recollection is that they didn't have these issues against us; certainly not when we played in their place.
Some credit has to go to TT, who is really good. But Haas was central to their philosophy and I don't think they ever really adapted to his absence, which I can't entirely blame them for. But it's telling that there was so much attention on him getting a brace that might work--the slight possibility that he could play seemed to leave them in a situation where they couldn't let go of what they did with him in the game.
I'm sure this game would have been different with Haas. Against a smallish TT defense he probably could have had a big night. But it definitely seemed like they didn't know what to do without him, even though they had several days to prepare for this one. They seemed totally out of sync. Only Carsen Edwards seemed to rise to the occasion.
EDIT - just checked the box score. Purdue had eight assists and 17 turnovers. Ouch.

in the same round we did last year. Had we both won, we would have played each other in the E8.

we're the only B1G team left. Who are the leaders? Who are the best? That's right. We are. :)

Heartbreaking for him and PU's seniors.

If you're a Purdue fan you've got to be frustrated. They were a top 5 team at one point and won 19 in a row. But they finished in second place in the league, then lost the BTT title game, then lost in the Sweet 16. The loss of Haas in the tournament was a tough blow but they were trending downward even before. In the end they'll raise no banners for this season.
March 24th, 2018 at 12:48 AM ^
It's all about banners and cutting down nets. That's just the way it is.
Historically, Purdue has been consistently very good. They have won more regular season Big Ten Championships than anybody else.
But they fade in tournaments.
Michigan has not been consistent historically. We've had hot and cold streaks over time.
But we've done well in tournaments . . . A National Championship, 7 total Final Fours (so far), 3 Big Ten Tournament championships.
"Basketball School" Purdue would kill for that record.
