MSU Fans, Alums, want Simon and Board Gone

Submitted by StephenRKass on

The Freep has a collection of tweets on the Nassar disaster. They are from current students, fans, and alumni. They unanimously are condemning MSU President Simon for not resigning, and MSU Board of Trustees vice-chairman for his tone deaf and moronic statements.

The silver lining is that there appear to be a majority of fans and alumni who are appalled, and not in the least supportive of the stonewalling by the MSU administration and the board of Trustees.

My questions:

  • Do any of you in the state of Michigan know anyone from MSU who wants Simon to stay?
  • Could Dantonio and Izzo theoretically call for Simon to step down, or are they not allowed to because of their position under her authority?

the response there is horror. But the upper admin is acting very much like PSU did, and the cluelessness, the disconnection from reality, is striking. People will be trying to figure out why this fortress mentality is so powerful for decades to come.

Yep, and it's pretty obvious that this explains why MSU's reaction has been so different from PSU's reaction:  they have learned their lesson from PSU.

Why commission an independent report that's just going to announce to the world that you were aware of one of the most monstrous crime sprees in American history, and did nothing?

Izzo already backed her! and some twat on Twitter two nights ago was tweeting people who spoke out telling them to grow up and that they, "shouldn't leave their daughters alone with doctors" Spartan logic.

or whore she was. I got in to it with a few sparty enablers that night on Twitter and they all defended izzo for his comments and Simon for her  leadership. They were adamant that this is a USAG issue, not MSU. And yes, some of the more despicable ones tweeted horrible things like blaming the victims or their parents for allowing it to happen. One poster was very aggressive going after Lynn Raisman when she called the angry Elf out for his comments.

Not sure if their opinion has changed with the BOT quadrupling down on the tone deaf remarks, but as of sunday the sparty deniers were out in full force.

Money talks and, apparently, certain people at MSU walk....sadly not straight out of their existing offices.

Hopefully, the protests by students and faculty will happen and get a good bit of national press.  Negative press scares the shit out of sponsors and donors.

I predicted in another thread that this Friday PM would be when Simon steps down.  I am never right around the house, so hopefully this prediction stands up.

Still just stepping down is not enough.  Convictions for those who knew and did nothing or obstructed must come or justice will not have been served.  Pretty sure that will happen, as the victim/survivors are finding incredible strength in one another and I suspect there will be hell to pay for some...and rightfully so.

The tweets they cherry-picked are unanimiously condemning MSU's administration?  Well, yeah, they're not going to bother picking the ones that are supportive. There are plenty who are still supporting them.

working in the AD, from the Gymnastics coach to trainers, supposedly had girls coming to them complaining and they dismissed them instead of reporting it which they are required to do.  That is a massive failure of the Athletic Director.  Those are his reports and his department.  His responsibility.

The issue for MSU isn't about Nassar, it's about how they responded to the complaints about him as an institution. The institution failed big time to handle these complaints correctly such that they enabled this to happen for 20 years!

The silence on Hollis is indeed remarkable. Izzo, whose program has no relationship to Nass, has spoken publicly, so people know his position. The president and the trustees are in focus. But this is Hollis's athletic department and nobody is even talking about him.

If MSU were serious about understanding and rectifying the problems, a full accounting of the actions or nonactions of the AD should be a huge part of the analysis. And there is no such thing. Hollis could be innocent! I doubt it, but it's possible--but nobody knows, and once the hubbub surronding the president dies down, people need to know.

What's crazy about this is that the AD office is one of the most logical places for action to occur. Unless literally every athlete complaint was intercepted by the coach and dismissed (in which case, why isn't she in jail?) at some point the athletic administration came across something and should have dealt with it. Why don't we know?

Simon is responsible for us not knowing. She may have improperly dealt with complaints herself. But the AD absolutely should have acted, and even if Simon is innocent of the charges of failing to address the complaints, her failure to address the AD's involvement is fireable.

Seems like this is the guy that should have called into that radio show.

Maybe I’m overreacting; I think institutions that are (at best) this negligent, and (at worst) complicit in coverups, should not be honored with continuing membership in the Big Ten Conference. I felt that PSU should have been bounced, and I think MSU should be bounced based on the stench that surrounds these two institutions. I realize that’s never going to happen, of course. That leaves it up to the University of Michigan to decide what to do with their B1G membership. Yes, the money. Yes the research consortium. But no, there’s principle at stake, too. Maybe that’s more important than the money. Or not. Because that’ll never happen, either. So I guess I’m just showing my frustration with the status quo. Still, it amazes me that not a single soul involved in any institution, including the Big Ten, is doing a damn thing.

I'm not optimistic that the Big 10 or NCAA will do much if anything anytime soon.

Mark Emmert somehow doesn't have an opinion on what is goign on.

Dr. Simon was on the NCAA Executive Committee for 4 years, and was chairman for a year, during which she gave a major public vote of confidence to Emmert.

Emmert didn't get to where he is today without knowing how to pay back his friends, and that's exactly what he is doing with this statement.

Deny deny deny. Had one tell me it's not a big deal, all we care about is basketball and football. The michigan biased media is making too much of it.

Or the usual, "you think this stuff doesn't happen at Michigan?"

Stupid is as stupid does.

"Michigan State needs to wear this shame. The university deserves this humiliation, derision, doubt, discomfort and every unkind word. We need to listen to every word from the victims and absorb all of their anger. They’ve dealt with this betrayal and violation of their trust for years. Michigan State only has to survive a few news cycles."

program protection they have provided. That’s why each issued statements of support. The debt was due. Once you are in bed you are in bed. If she wanted I am sure she could roll the programs.

I know of not one MSU fan suggesting Simon stay.

One wrote a letter to each regent requestion more action.

Head coaches are famous for sticking to the job and staying out of other things.  Izzo was responding to question and it bit him.

From what I understand, the inner circles at MSU, the student body, and the Board are being assured Simon will be gone soon. AD Hollis is the one purportedly calling in favors, puppeteering the Board, pleading innocence and no knowledge, in an effort to save his ass. He should go before Simon. His coaches knew, three different sports, IN THIS CASE ALONE. Let's look closer at All of the other cover-ups. Hollis is more culpable and closer than Simon. But THEY love Hollis and. It'd make Izzo n Mork uncomfy.

My guess, behind closed doors the decision was made to have Simon resign, last week. MSU spin doctors will basically say that, but "no action was taken then, out of respect n concern for the victims. We didn't want to take attention from them at this very important time." This will be presented by the Board, Hollis Izzo Dantonio and prominent Alumns, they will pledge transparency. Within MSU circles this is the plan. But the people will want more........ One President One Woman will not be enough bloodlust..... Once Simon gone, the People will focus on Hollis. Boards will pledge support, especially in the wake of NCAA investigation. " Without President, we need Hollis". This will be another PR disaster/distraction during March Madness. Hollis resigns in April.

The lone MSU fan that I know is a good friend of mine. He didn’t go there but his parents did and it runs in his veins. He’s so appalled by how the university handled all of this that he was legitimately done being a fan. He was trying to decide who should be his new team, OSU or ND. The disgust and anger was legit.
