Mike Elston
Keep an eye on Mike Elston. UM grad and former player. Close family friend. There is mutual interest. Let's see where this goes. Chalk it up as contact made for now. Obviously, Chris Bryant has come up in various circles over the last two days too.

Our last two recruiting classes were ranked #5 and #8 nationally and heavily relied on players from outside our region. Our 2019 class is off to a tremendous start with the #2 player in the country and several other highly ranked commits.
That doesn't happen without a heavy focus on recruiting, which included hiring a very inexperienced position coach for his prowess in that area, innovative satellite camp strategy and more.
We have one disappointing recruiting class and one disappointing season and people forget everything that came before. Same with playcalling on offense. Harbaugh has always used a collaborative approach. Reading the comments here, you'd think it was a one year experiment.

Right? Its like people haven't watched Harbaugh anywhere! At first I cringed at calls for a college OC, then I was diisgusted. Now, I just get a chuckle out of the chuckle heads that call for Matt Canada or Joe Moorehead type OC's.
Enos will eventually be the OC, so lets hope he works well with Harbaugh.

for telling it like it is. One down year (not that bad, look at previous UM coaches down years) and people are forgetting the 10+ years of great HCing by Harbaugh.

It's not like cryptic posts on this forum are going to make ESPN, let alone a reputable news organization. Also it's pretty much understood that a coach is always fair game for their alma matter. I.E. what Florida State just did and I could care less. Also, only 8 years, 2010-17, about as long as he was here.
If I was him I would want my employer to know that Michigan was interested in me. Let the raise discussion begin. I mean seriously, that's not the situation you fire someone for, that's the situation you counter offer for.

Special Teams?

Frey and Smith? That would leave 3 openings without including anybody else who might leave.

Mike Elston was promoted to Associate Head Coach yesterday. Does this mean he's not coming, or that he's renegging on a deal with ND to come here?

He was already the assistant head coach and I think anyone would be hard pressed to explain the difference.
It's most certainly below being the DC, which he got passed over for yesterday.
